Let's see if I got this... So there's 3 similar types: The Serpae- the red ones with the comma-shaped spots, then there's the Red-Gone-Black Phantom- the ones whose spots look like an eye with some white around them, and then the Red Phantom- with the round circle spot. Correct?
@SkipperBlue
@SkipperBlue 8 месяцев назад
Sure - this is black Phantom ? It seems to me, it's a local kind of serpae tetra.

Some of this poor fish get caugh or i can say that they are kidnapped from their world by human then forced them to life in the small glass box, what a Pity 😭

tbf they'll probs live far longer in captivity, as long as they're at the hands of a good fishkeeper that honestly doesn't matter much

This are Hyphessobrycon sp. “ Fire Phantom Pantanal". They are not black phantoms ( found im another area of pantanal / Brazil )

Look so similar to serpaes.
@byronhosking2379
@byronhosking2379 3 года назад
This is the first time I have read that the species Hyphessobrycon megalopterus is red rather than black. While there are some fish in this video that do appear to be similar in general physical appearance to H. megalopterus, has there been any scientific analysis to determine this? This species has, I believe from the literature, been observed in various habitats [Rio Madeira, in Bolivia and western Brazil, including its major tributaries the Rios Beni and Mamoré, plus the upper Rio Paraguai in Brazil, Rio Guaporé (Río Iténez in Bolivia), and the upper Rio Paraguai]. It seems odd that this has not been noticed, though I may have just not come across it.
@byronhosking2379
@byronhosking2379 3 года назад
Just to update on my comments above...I have been in communication with Tai Strietman, who was able to provide very useful information. There clearly is a "red" form of this species in the location identified in the video. Several individuals have provided evidence from the literature which refutes the contention that the red form is the only wild form and the black was developed from the red by someone. The "black" form has been collected in the wild from other locations, so it does not seem at all likely that the aquarium fish is a human-derived development from the "red" form, but rather is itself the wild "black" form of H. megalopterus.

So what type of phantom tetra is that? I want them!
@rara5212
@rara5212 3 года назад
It's weird that the H. megalopterus shown here in the wild is red...! Usually it is black - the so called 'Black Phantom'. These here look like a mix of H. sweglesi (red phantom) and the black one....!?🤔

H.sweglesi is very different, the have bigger shoulder spots. Either this another colourmorph, or another species.

hello practical fishkeeping. I have a question for you. I saw your african biotope video. I just thought that was so cool, can you tell me the species of plant that is floating and has a lilly pad (floating leaf) at the top. It ran up with a vine. Im also going to be making an african biotope and that info would be much apperciated.
