I've bought the kit . The product is nothing more then a click bait scam. Looks nothing like chrome. No matter what you do. And they don't back the product at all. Silver paint looks more like chrome then this stuff. Buyer beware.
Long and the short of it is, you basically can’t. I did the hard yards and went on a crusade for 6months haha 😅😭😭The microscopic reflective particles that stack together to create the chrome appearance are what gives it that lustrous look.. the minute another layer goes ontop, it flattens all the microscopic “glitter flakes” and then you’re up sh!t creek haha , if you have a previously chromed surface there is a great two step system (but it has to be over top of real chrome coated metal, no etch or primer.. I’ll add the link
Electroplating machines are the go.. for a couple $100 you can buy a decent pen 🖊️ type plating machine. A waaay more cost effective way than a “bath” type electroplating system-because the “pen” style Machine is basically the same application style as a quill and ink. You just dip the felt tip in the liquid and slowly stack layers on Rather than having to buy heaps of expensive solution that you have to fully submerge items in.. Ali express have a fair few pen electroplating machines , if you pay less than $200 (AUD) don’t bother, Pen style Machines are way more versatile too, as you can do the badges of cars etc without removal/or damage to the surrounding painted areas.
Alternatively, you can do 4-5 coats of colour , slowly over a couple of days to make sure every layer cured properly , followed by an enamel or 2pac clear, then cut polish the sh!t out of it and buff it back up to a gloss finish and viola 🤌🏼🥲
That product looks great as it is sprayed, but my experience has been that it has poor durability (rubs off easily, even when fully ‘cured’). And as others have said, applying a clear over it for protection changes the appearance in such a way that it just looks like metallic silver. I would love to know how that stuff reacted when gasoline was inevitably dripped on it in this application.
This looks good, but how did it hold up? My experience with that particular silver spray paint is that oils, even from your skin will rub the metallics off.
The results even if a crappy product aren’t judge worthy as you’re spraying way too far away for any proper coverage. 6” at most with 50% overlap would have yielded much different results even if it still sucked lol
My grandpa helped work on this as well... Bob Schuttpelz. Send me a DM. I'd love to get more info. I have the old national Geographic magazines with it packed away somewhere
Hello, good morning, question: is the compressor you use for the paint gun the same one you use for the airbrush pencil...? and what compressor do you use? Blessings 🌺🌷💮🥀🌹🌹🌸
Hey man, thank you SO much for sharing your experience. I was ready to purchase this myself, had I not seen your post. You saved me some money. All that being said, you did an AWESOME job, despite the product not being as advertised. Peace, bud!
yeah i bought the very pricey spray can kit and it isnt chrome, its metallic at best. i've gotten better results out of $8 bottles of paint then the $150 i spent on this gargage.
My need for it to be perfect would get to me too much to not try getting the fish scales Perfect. I love seeing it done as a DIY project and would love to try it myself soon
