Glad the Ross Oakely era is over. Cant believe they wanted to merge Hawthorn who had only won a premiership just shy of 5 years before. Hawthorn still here, 5 grand finals and 4 more premierships later.
Doggies were always meant to win this game. We, as a family lost our much loved sister in law, Aunty, etc, mid 2016 to Cancer, she bled red white and blue. I believe she was up in the heavens somewhere "pulling some strings" because, as a family of Doggies supporters, we NEEDED that win at that time. Her way of saying " I'm alright, time to move on"
What I find interesting is that teams which have no success, low members and barely any supporters at games. They can then be in a grand final and have 40k supporters. Are people bandwagoning do you think? Or are supporters just not being members and not going to games until sides are successful?
I think a lot of smaller Victorian clubs have larger fan bases than official statistics suggest, a lot of dogs fans may have been there who weren’t members, but were AFL members. Also a lot of the crowd at the AFL grand final each year are not supporters of either team, but the dogs had support from pretty much everyone except Sydney swans fans that year so a lot of people at the ground would’ve been backing the dogs that day!
Great video mate, shed a few tears and I'm a Pies fan. The icing on the cake was when Leicester City, the premier league club I had supported as a kid, got up in the same year as well. What a year to be an underdog.
Not really relevant to the story is it? I know people argue it is, but did the umps reeeaally have a sway on the game? Or was it just the dogs day? In my opinion I think the dogs were the better team that day! That’s just me though
Show Moz tackling buddy, dislodging the ball, & helping Boydy swoop on it & Seal the game basically. He sealed it by kicking a goal from fullback ( almost 🤣 ). I’d say that tackle from Moz which started that whole chain of events had more to do with the victory, than your laughable conspiracy theories. Keep crying little sister 😂, I think netball’s more up your alley, what do ya reckon 🤣🤣? Oh, just quietly, Sydney’s not winning it this year, or next year Spud 🥔, enjoy 😉, I know I will.
The bulldog premiership wasnt a miracle the 2017 premiership that Richmond won that was a miracle 2016 they were 13th the following year they beat a rampant Adelaide too win the flag
I’d argue they’re both miracles. Don’t forget no one has won the flag from lower on the ladder than the dogs. Richmond had a second chance final to start in 2017 🤷♂️ I do have a video about Richmond’s 2017 flag coming in the future.
I remember my dad gave up time at work to get tickets for the GF and he didn't care gow much it cost him cause he waited 50+ years for this moment and nothing was ginna stop him not even death and after the game I could not even hear my dad right next to me at the ground and my sister tried to call my dad she was up in Sydney in a squash tournament watching the game and tried to call my dad to make sure it was real.
Based on the umpires? Or based on the AFL’s desire for NSW teams to be so successful that they have given them ways to be up top consistently the last 15+ years?
I am a bulldogs supporter and went to the hawthorn, gws, and sydney games. I'll never forget the amount of cars we drove past on the way to and from Sydney that had dogs scarves out the windows. The entire month was just magical and I doubt I'll ever experience anything like it.
Describing that month as magical is perfect. From an outsider (not doggies fan) perspective it really did feel like this magical, pure, miracle run to the flag.
I will always remember that day when they won the game to play in the Grand Final and was so unbelievably/ shockingly happy and so proud and will never leave my best memory will live with me forever when they won the Grand Final when The Underdogs became the Top Dogs
Crazy how they actually won the flag. Winning close games like that isn’t sustainable over a long period of time, but they managed to do it for 1 and a half seasons. As expected, their fairytale run is over, albeit much later than it should’ve been, and are outside the 8. Will be a long road back as they are extremely old and don’t have a ton of talent or picks (excluding Nick Daicos of course), but it won them a flag which is the goal at the end of the day. They’re a big club, they should be able to come back to a GF in another 10 years.
I don’t think they’ll be down for long. 2021 is a massive outlier as that was a horrendous drop off, but other than that they seem to be always there abouts or almost there.
I actually don’t know! It’s generic, royalty free music that I found on RU-vid. Probably called something like “epic rock ballad background music royalty free” or something like that :)
I have been thinking about that, but mainly focused on their first flag and then Brendan Gale’s “outrageous” goals at the start of the decade being vindicated, it’s a great footy story that one!
Crazy not to mention that The Melbourne Storm are already one of the most successful Teams In Rugby League history being around for such a short part of it
Definitely successful, and I did mention them. But they don’t have the truly passionate fanbase in Melbourne yet. There are some passionate storm fans, but not many
I'm an Essendon supporter, the 2016 Grand Final is only one I have been to in person. I'm also not ashamed this video made me cry. What a story, amazing job Life In Oz.
Overlooked is my American wife's support of the dogs. Her cheering contributed to the 19th man's effort to help the team win the GF. I can't say my two cats helped, one being a fan of Geelong and the other of Richmond.
Great video! I’m an American and 2016 was my first season following the AFL and I hadn’t yet settled on a team when the finals started. Soon I was on the Bulldogs bandwagon for the finals but still hadn’t made a decision, but when Bevo gave Bob the medal, and the crowd reacted like they did, I felt the need to learn more about the club. I watched some documentaries on the 89 fightback and the disastrous 1996 season, and throughout it all, I was so moved by the loyalty of the fans. Before I knew it, my heart was in the club and I have been a member ever since. Thanks for bringing back the memories!
I will never forget that day after supporting the Sons of the mighty West for almost 20 years with so many heartbreaks.... thanks for sharing and making this video
I was in a wedding. FFS. I was in a wedding while they did photos in 3 locations. FFS. I have spent my whole football life cheering and crying for the Bulldogs. To win the flag on a day of being best man in a wedding... Holy f***. I watched the whole thing on my phone. It was good... It was painful... Still feel like I missed out in away... Wasn't proper part of it. Anyway... From Dougie to Grant to Darcy to Murph to the Bont... I'll just keep supporting with all I have. Go doggies ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I touched on that in the debrief of the video. I genuinely think the bulldogs won on merit. Sure they got the rub of the green from the umps but that happens every single game, period
Whenever a flog makes this claim they talk about two decisions in the whole game. All the money on Plugga and Buddy couldn’t buy premierships. Only got them with the Cola team
Moved to Melbourne last year and started watching Aussie rules football this season. Love the documentaries mate. This struck my heart, and got me to shed a tear even though I never witnessed it live. I love a good sports underdog story.
You can tell that this was made by an AFL supporter. Rugby League is never called "Rugby" - that's Rugby Union. The NRL is also making huge inroads into WA with the aim of returning Perth to the competition in coming years. Oh and GWS are openly mocked by Canberrans as nothing more than blow-ins from Sydney whenever they play in the ACT. A team called Greater Western Sydney trying to claim that they represent Canberra is nothing short of insulting to the people of Canberra and speaks volumes about the arrogance of the AFL.
Of interest would be southern NSW has always been Aussie Rules..most league fan's in Sydney and western and northern NSW... not to mention Queensland have no idea...that southern NSW has always been mainly Aussie Rules!
