I really thought this was a gimmick. But I was pleasantly shocked if actually worked! Doubled my aircraft count from the same location indoors! I don't understand why it how this works. But it does!
Does anyone have the filming of Heartbeat from 1992 which was shown in a documentary. I was in the opening shot for about 19 second. Would love to see it again.
I'm not aware of that one, though I think you might be talking about the quick shot of the old chap with his camcorder where they were filming a scene with Kate in her car outside the village Doctors house. This was seen in the behind the scenes footage that was released with the DVDs, though I believe it was shown on an early VHS release and also they showed it at a Heartbeat museum we visited in the mid 90s at Goathland. I can imagine there must be alot of amateur home video recordings of the filming of the earlier series, just a pity the people who have them don't want to share them online. Would've loved to have seen the train crash episode being filmed and what went into the set up (pity they couldn've have shown that as a DVD extra). I have a home video recording from the police house in Askwith with Nick, Kate's aunt Eileen, Maggie and a London friend of Nick who was on the run filmed in June 1996. Will try and upload some of it if anyone's interested.
Only just discovered that Derek Fowld's once guested on This is Your Life in 1993. Michael Aspel interrupts Fowld's during filming in the Goathland Hotel. Never knew this and it's strange I don't remember ever seeing this shown despite being a big fan of Heartbeat during that time. I wonder how many Heartbeat fans will remember that.
I have had a few loop antenna over the years some homemade they do work well they are better outside getting to the mfj1788x I still have one but I do not use it as I can not get the SWR down under 1.6.1 the way I tune it is I listen for the high peak in sound then ill tx to fine-tune it and on most times I only have to do a few taps on the fine-tune buttons to get my lower SWR this saves my finals from burning out. I did a compare my vertical 27ft with an auto tuner at the bottom with 16 radials vs 1788x loop. with the same amount of rf the loop was keeping up with the vertical maybe just a tad lower on some signals but the winner was the vertical but the loop did more of the radius and closer in stuff as well how far has my loop got I have hit the USA on 25w with my loop and more than 1 time so it was not a fluke by the way my loop was 20ft up and horizontal fixing
Sorry thought the video showed the JT65 signal (tones) largely unaffected when switched on, just the noise. How effective these work depends on the antennas used, if the signal you are trying to listen to is received by the main and the aux(noise) antenna then yes you will reduce the overall signal as well as the noise. The trick is the main antenna must receive the signal and the noise, the noise antenna must just pick up the noise, that way you can remove just the noise. Plenty of videos online with these types of units working search x-phase, MFJ-1026 etc - but they aren't a magic bullet just a tool in the arsenal.
Strip outer insulation and copper mesh shield. And buy a copper pipe used for installing air conditioner systems. You can use liquid line pipes, vapour line pipes too thick for this use. Cut the pipe into pieces the lenght of the pieces. Put the cable pieces you cut into the pipes. Solder first piece's core to the next piece's outer copper pipe, first piece's outer pipe to next piece's core. solder the others same way. The signal quality and strenght will increase.
Hello OM, How happy are you with this MFJ-1788 antenna? Considering his size is performing well? I´m considering to order one but seeing lot of complain´s about mistakes inside the cover. Best regards, Fabiano CT7ABD.
I was able to improve the antenna a bit. At the end of the antenna cable, where the first antenna element is plugged in, I attached four radial half wavelengths to the shield. Depending on the antenna placement, the radials are bent down 90 degrees or less. Everyone has to find out for themselves.
The greater the number of sections you coaxial 1090 antenna has, the higher the gain, but, the pattern flattens out, towards the horizon.. so you may get better performance at long range, at the expense of poorer performance, directly overhead. 73
How did your inverted L perform sorry dont know your name. I have been reading the same PW article by Len as you. I was thinking of buying a ready-made 80m trap off ebay at £32. But not sure what bands that will give me....I'm looking for 160/80/40 and hopefully 20m am I asking to much. I use a 38mt long inverted L at presnt...no traps and it does very well but I want to get it more resonant and need a bit of advice.
Thanks for video, I made an 8, 3 and 1 element and used a discone body to house them. Just decoded an aircraft 185.3 miles over Tullowmacjames, Thurles Templetuohy Ireland. Great stuff. Even my Kinetics sbs-3 antenna is only giving a max of 50nm indoors. (I'm in Lancashire, UK)
