My name is Brandon aka the Brando Critic, and on this channel it's my job to point you in the direction of movies worth checking out!
I have had a passion for films for as long as I can remember and I created this channel not only as an outlet for me to talk about the films I love, but to introduce to people to films they may have never seen before, or get them excited to watch a movie again.
With 4 years of film school under my belt and a lifetime of loving movies, I wish to entertain you all with my passion for movies and point you in the direction of great cinema!
Life is too short for bad movies! Let me be your guide!
For ‘intensity addicts’ who find understated, less hectic scenes ‘boring’, it might be best to miss out the beginning and the end of this film and go straight to the central section, ‘The Yacht’ and then, skip to ‘the captain’s dinner vomiting scene’, and thus save yourself time.😂
Totally agree with everything you said, I couldn’t have articulated it any better. I’ve officially reached the point now where I only go to the theatre maybe 2-3 times per year. I just can’t deal with idiots who talk/use their phone during the movie. It’s incredibly disrespectful and it astounds me how often it happens. Does nobody understand basic cinema etiquette anymore? I feel like these used to be rare one off occurrences, but I’ve noticed in the last few years it’s become a regular thing. Also I remember during the pandemic people complaining about the lack of new movies, and I was telling them the same thing… “you have 100 years worth of cinema to explore”. I watched so many classics during this period. All the spare time gave me a chance to catch up on the back catalogue of Kubrick, Scorsese, Hitchcock etc. I was even watching monster movies from the 30’s haha.
This movie scarred me as a kid. Thailand made a Thai version of this and instead of the bunny, they substitute the bird as the little girl's pet. And the Thai version of Alex put a cobra in the bird cage when the family went out.
If you watched at the end of the movie, you'll realize Pakistani ISI wasn't after him after all. ISI boss is under the payroll of the Iranian intelligence.
I think it’s just you! Because 2023 was one of my favorite year for Films ever! Along with 2014 and 2013! So many amazing movies I love came out in 2023 no hard feelings my favorite comedy of the 2020s so far , of an Age an amazing gay romantic drama, migration illumination amazing animated adventure, Anyone But You an amazing rom com with two great actors and Oppenheimer 😍 just to name a few!!
Great review! I wonder if teacher slapping a student is legal that time, but Nancy really deserved it😂. This is one of the greatest horror movies ever made, it will stand the test of time. No remakes will ever top it, thanks to the mesmerizing performances of Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie. I love how Sissy added and balanced a complex mixture of innocence, vulnerability, acceptance, humiliation, and betrayal into Carrie, all rolled into one
Accidentally came upon this delightful film while in the hospital with pneumonia for a week. Enjoyed it so much, that I played it "on demand" 5 times, because it truly made me happy. My only tiny complaint is the bar scene where some of the 1957 people are dancing the "Twist", which didn't premiere until 1960... 💃🕺
Now that you've already seen it, I can say my number one personal favorite film of all time KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS (1977) has connections to your two favorite films of all time: STAR WARS and PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN: THE CURSE OF THE BLACK PEARL! William Shatner from Kingdom of the Spiders received a Best Actor Saturn Award nomination alongside Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford from Star Wars! Woody Strode from Kingdom of the Spiders received a Best Supporting Actor Saturn Award nomination alongside Sir Alec Guinness and Peter Cushing from Star Wars. Ve Neill, an Oscar winning makeup artist did the makeup effects for both Kingdom of the Spiders and Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl! 😊
@BrandoCritic Yup, it truly is Brandon! 😁 Oh, I almost forgot to mention this! Steven Zaillian, one of the co-editors of Kingdom of the Spiders, later became a screenwriter and won an Oscar for SCHINDLER'S LIST! 😊
The solution was so peripheral it got annoying and boring really quickly. The suspense was crazy in theatre which was fun. The Sam lore didn’t make a lot of sense to me.
Wow, can't disagree more on the BFF character played by Jason Lee. He is the most memorable character in the film, after Tom Cruise as David Aames. All guys can sympathize with him. The director makes him too much of a loser though, but that is not the fault of the actor. He plays the part perfectly.
@BrandoCritic They chose to base this around a sick patient. Who wants pizza? Do I need to say more. They could just gave us more backstory on the aliens. How did they come to term with sound playing a major factor. Or they could have picked up with the previous characters.
Years ago I moved to the UK and sold off everything that didn’t fit into two suitcases. Getting rid of things is cathartic. It even feels better than buying things, we just forget how good it feels in our quest to acquire things.
@BrandoCritic indeed haha. I rewatched it last night I still enjoy it but yh the lack of emotion now everything is realistic is one of the biggest issues for me with the remake for sure
Nice review. I definitely agree that Richard Dreyfus is such an engaging actor. He has this ability to be unpredictable and it was cool to see a normal guy kind of be an action hero and get the girl. Madeleine Stowe probably saw this role as her entrance into bigger movies but, yeah, her character was way too into Richard. It felt her direction was, “Ok, you’ve dated the bad boy, now you like him because he’s a good guy.” I know 37 years ago, there was no online dating but a woman like her was way too hot to be running after older Richard. I liked Emilio in this role. I think he’s at his best on screen when he’s light hearted and having fun and doing his signature laugh. When he does his serious roles, with the exception of “The Breakfast Club” he does seem to loose a lot that spontaneity and fun. I also think he was cast to bring in a younger audience who liked him in the brat pack movies. There was a lot of pairings of older, more established actors and younger stars during the late 80’s (Rain Man, Color of Money, The Rookie). I think the movies is a popcorn movie, you just put on to enjoy a bit of lighthearted fun. Not a great movie but a fun one. I appreciated the banter between the two mustached guys.
Very fun to see Roger make his debut on this channel. I definitely fall into the trap of "WHY did I buy THIS? I never use it or see it." I also collect certain things as a defense mechanism from the world, so I definitely "get" that. Thank You for allowing us to see more of the real man Brandon, and not just Brandocritic. Have a great day!
You did a great job. Definitely I can feel the weight off your back after going through it all. Collecting anything it’s definitely addicting. I started collecting some vinyls but, I’m not going to go as crazy as I’ve done with movies. I think I’ll a little over 1000 movies now.
this what I just went through and I got my house almost fully cleaned and organized. then I was told I had to move so I had to undo everything I just did and pack everything up I also ran out of boxes and had to use bags for a bunch of stuff. even though I get rid of stuff all the time, I still have SO much stuff!
Hey Brandon, what's up? I love your videos. Keep up the amazing work and content I feel like going shopping 🛍 for shelves and movie racks keep up the amazing work and content your my favorite movie RU-vid person I subscribed too
Great job Brandon! I learned a lot of stuff from your video about decluttering and reorganizing a movie room! Roger is just so cute to watch! Don't worry about sweating on camera Brandon! Maybe you could've edited the video like a workout music video using Olivia Newton-John's Physical! But I guess RU-vid won't allow that because of copyright! LOL! 😂
Hi Brandon, nice to see ya. Love this video. I'm the same way, I packed a lot of things away too because I hate clutter. But it looks so much better in the end. Great video buddy. 😊👊
That’s one nice room you got there Brandon! making steady progress decluttering film posters and movies to make more room on the shelves, I gotta buy more Blu-Ray 4KUHD movies to add in mine.
Was a beautiful room, still is a beautiful room. My room is a complete opposite from yours, so minimalistic, just my laptop, phone, toilet paper, a vacuum cleaner and a backpack for travelling.
