Here’s how I would write the Once-ler: The Once-ler is heavily influenced by his family to be greedy and as successful as possible. The Once-ler feels an intense need to be successful to the point it’s eventually consumes him and when he finally achieves that success, it proves to not be worth it. The Once-ler is completely oblivious to this and looses all care and respect he had for the environment he had when he was a kid. Who was once a kind and compassionate person became the epitome of greed. At the end of the movie the Once-ler still helps everyone to recover the environment, however it’s not because of a genuine concern and care for the environment like his younger self, rather it’s for selfish reasons as the Once-ler after all those years of living in isolation in the destroyed environment realized that in order to keep his Thneed business going he would need to replant the Truffula trees every time he cuts one down in order to make new Thneeds. Plus he also realized helping the environment would make him look good in propaganda. Oh, and I would have a plot twist that would reveal that Aloysius O’Hare is the Once-ler‘s son… So what do you guy think of my interpretation of the Once-ler? Let me know about any problems you may have with it.
I bet the executives of Comcast (owner of Illumination) & Illumination were TRIGGERED by this song, this it was cut out. And the Lorax being featured in various corporate commercials at the time, especially for a car, even if it's gas saving, just a corruption and commoditification of the Lorax, a bitter irony.
This was removed for 3 reasons. 1: to bigger (how ironic) 2: it was way too realistic and would be a bit scary for kids. 3: they didn’t want kids to think anti corporate when the movie was being made corporate
At first i didn’t realize I needed all this stuff I had a little cottage And that cottage was enough A place where i could sit and knit A place where i could sell my thneeds But now i’ve had a little time To reassess my needs And i need a bigger office I need a bigger chair A bigger desk A bigger staff A bigger hat to wear! Because i’m biggering! (Yes, biggering!) I’m figuring on biggering! And biggering is triggering More biggering! The Lorax: Hey listen up meathead I’m a say this once and i’m not gonna repeat it Greed, see, it’s like a little pet, all right? And the more and more and more that you go and feed it The more hungry it’ll get But, you know, you really can’t blame greed Naw that’s stupid You see, it’s got a worm inside Oh yeah that’s right That’s one that always needs to feed And it is never satisfied You get it? But the more you try to find it The more it likes to hide Now listen That is a nasty little worm I like to call it pride! See now that’s why you’re biggering! Listen here idiot! And figuring on biggering! But that biggering’s just triggering more biggering! Got that? All right! The Once-Ler: There is a principle of nature that most every creature knows It’s called survival of the fittest, and this is how it goes The animal that wins has got to claw and bite and kick and punch The animal that doesn’t winds up someone else’s lunch A company’s an animal that’s trying to survive It’s struggling and fighting just to keep itself alive I must keep biggering! I’m figuring on biggering! Though biggering is triggering More biggering! I won’t stop biggering! I’m figuring on biggering! And biggering is triggering more biggering! With the customers all buying And the money multiplying And the pr people lying And the lawyers all denying Who cares if some things are dying? I don’t want to hear your crying This is all so gratifying!
ok came here cause schaffrillas said this was way better than the rest of the songs in the film, and... yeah, wtf, i cant believe they cut this for being "too anti-corporate" I mean, I can believe it, but it upsets me cause this song is fucking great, what the ever-loving hell
@@emeye6452 It serves a different purpose and is much catchier in its own right. Which is better depends on what you prioritize, nothing inherent. Edit: To clarify, I prefer Biggering but both songs are good
