Great Video.. I've done several coast to coast rides from east to west and back again, as well as many trips up and down the east side of the States, and you managed to see things that are still on my list..!! My longest single trip was 36 days, covering 9,363 miles.. Thanks for the ride, and now I have a few places to add to my list for the next trip..!! Seeing your segment on California and the Pacific Coast Highway, and the Bixby Creek Bridge, reminded me of "Then Came Bronson", which is what cemented in me the desire to ride this wonderful country, and see those sites..

@trippyrides5674
@trippyrides5674 4 года назад
I wasn't "afraid" of wildlife, but there were times I wasn't comfortable either: 1. riding at night in deer country (more than once) 2: sleeping in a hammock on a mountain slope alone in a national forest in bear country.
@trippyrides5674
@trippyrides5674 4 года назад
@@ianfrank4071 Regarding estimating the cost: 1. figure out what you'll spend in an average day, multiply it by number of days. 2. Add the stuff that you have to buy before you go. 3. Assume your calculation is off by up to 100% lol Really though, the best you can come up with is a range. Assume it'll probably end up at the high end, unless things go unusually well.

All told, I rode about 23,000 KM (~14,300 miles) in 40 days. Yes, I took the scenic route! I camped (tent and/or hammock) probably 35 of the 40 days. Some of the spots I hit include (but not limited to): Provinces: PEI, New Brunswick, Quebec and Ontario States: Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine National Parks: Rocky Mountain, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Escalante, Arches, Big Bend, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Joshua Tree, Mesa Verde Points of interest: Pike's Peak, Red Rocks, Peak-to-Peak Highway, Cache la Poudre River Canyon, Million Dollar Highway, Tail of the Dragon, Blue Ridge Parkway, Moki Dugway, The Devil's Backbone, Valley of the Gods, Mexican Hat, Monument Valley, Black Hills of South Dakota, Sturgis, Spearfish Canyon, Devil's Tower, Independence Pass, Moab, Cinnamon Pass, Ophir Pass, Tin Cup Pass, Kebler Pass, Mount Evans, Skyline Drive, Burr Trail, Pacific Coast Highway, White Rim Road, San Juan Mountains, Golden Gate Bridge, Mulholland Drive, Topanga Canyon, Sunset Blvd, Griffiths Park Observatory, LA Comedy Store, Angeles Crest Highway, Four Corners, Cherohala Skyway, Jack Daniel Distillery, Three Sisters of Texas Hill Country, Telluride Blues and Brews Festival, Coronado Trail, Napa Valley, Big Bear, Big Sur. The video also includes quite a bit of off road action, most of the fun stuff coming from the 100 mile White Rim Road in Utah (5 dismounts there alone, I think). My ride was a 2015 Suzuki V-Strom 650. It performed flawlessly, 2 oil changes and one rear tire were all it needed. And as you will see from the video, I didn't baby it! Like the video? Thanks. Just watch this video again. I was reminded that it was the genesis of my own Cape Breton trip in summer 2019. I opted not to do it on the DL650 and went for a slightly larger bike to cover the distances, but this video is what got me started on that 2500 mile journey last summer. Looking forward to checking out the rest of your vids. Thanks for posting!

Hey, as far as the music goes, I'm more of a Doors fan myself, "Riders on a 'Strom, Riders on a 'Strom . . . " but good video! I thought I knew every twist 'n twig in Cape Breton, but there's a few shots here that remind me there's always more to learn! Thanks for posting.

Hey. Cool video. How did the V-Strom do off-road? I'm heading to Alaska next year for a trip doing tarmac and off-road and was considering it is a bike to get over there.
@trippyrides5674
@trippyrides5674 7 лет назад
It did great on the trails and fields I travelled. I had Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2's mounted, and they are a great tire for this bike - mostly pavement with the occasional off-road jaunt. I wouldn't have been as comfortable if things got muddy, but that's true for most tires/bikes. You're not going to want to do much gnarlier trails than seen in this video, as picking this thing up gets tiresome in a hurry! But whatever it lacks in off-road, it makes up for in highway comfort and the ability to carry a lot of weight while eating up the miles. For a trip to Alaska, my preferred bikes to consider would be the Strom (650 or 1000), Africa Twin or R1200GS.
