I wouldn't say that Shannon nailed her beam routine in the AA by any stretch of of the imagination. Her AA beam routine nearly cost her the AA final...with that said I appreciate her sharing this with us.
Your routines, good or bad, make me happy. You taught me that if I fell, I had to get back up and finish what I started. Thank you for that inspiration, Shannon Miller. You're so amazing!!!
Hi Shannon. You and Dominique Dawes were both my fav gymnasts growing up. I was in high school when you all were at the 1996 Olympics and I thought you two were the best ever!! Ive never done gymnastics but I love watching it. You are an amazing gymnast!! 💕💕💕
This is Center Grove High School in the Scholastic World class for WGI (The Sport of the Arts.) please let me know what you think! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-i0xO5y5tk7U.htmlsi=D3ucAfRmqsPhamtU
I know you haven’t heard of this, but there is a sport called Winter Guard. It is the color Guards from marching bands and Drum Corps. After the marching season is over, we go into the gyms and do our own shows. We learn our shows, compete every weekend from January through April and then have the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships. I used to be a gymnast a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… and started teaching this. One of the captions that is judged is Movement. I am a movement adjudicator. I’ve judged all across the U.S. Since I have to judge all forms of dance (ballet, modern, etc…) I have my students watch you. A lot! I want them to see how is something is going great and how little hick ups can cause you minor deduction to, falls. I let my students know that it’s ok to make a mistake! We don’t want to tell you about your mistakes, you know what they are. But what they need to realize is that it is your mental focus that we immediately look for. Do you get right back in the game, or do you start giggling or freak completely out? If your recovery is immediate, you actually get a few tenths extra for that mental clarity. Staying in the moment. I teach them that “Competitions are WON in rehearsal. Contests are simply where you go to pick up your trophy and medals.” Just do what you did at practice, there is no need for nerves. If you don’t mind, I’m going to send you a show for you see. We can do any type of show we want, and there are so many thousands of types! Thank you, Shannon for being such an inspiration to my students (and me!)
You were amazing and inspiring even after this shocker. Came back and won the floor title then came back the next year and redeemed yourself by winning the balance beam gold... you rock Shannon Miller. The fact that you can look back on this and share it and still give great advice on it is lovely. Always and forever the first Olympic Balance Beam Champion for team USA!!!
I'm an adult gymnast and OUCH!!!! That fall had to hurt!!! It just shows you that EVERYONE falls in a sport, so in a lot of ways, it's good for us amateur atheletes to see.
same. i had my first major fall off beam on a full turn. It has taken 2 months for the knot on my leg to go away and I working back to trying full turns again.
I have always admired you for your positive attitude and tenacity! Even when you made mistakes you still kept going no matter what. Perfect example: you fell off the balance beam during Nationals in ‘96 but STILL won the all-around because you did not give up! I will never forget that.
@@kristinp.8951 She keeps saying it is in the code when it never was.I was letting her know since she keeps repeating something that isn't true. I never said a thing about the skill being bad so don't put words in my mouth.
Shannon, irregardless of the bobbles in this routine, your grace has never been surpassed by any American Gymnast , so there is that. We have lots of athletic gymnasts , but none have come close to your grace and technique. That’s a quality you can’t teach so you are ok with the snafus in this routine.
Hey Shannon I have been a USA Gymnastics Fan for a few years, but every time I look at replay meets from the 90's I think of your name. You are definitely a fan favorite and congratulations for everything you accomplished!
Shannon, one of my first and favorite Olympic memories was watching the games with my mom and seeing you win your gold medal on beam in Atlanta. As a fellow Oklahoman, you made us so proud!
You have always been my favourite US gymnast (I’m from the UK). So graceful and precise, beautiful choreography in your routines. Is it strange watching yourself perform from back then? Xxx
The best american gymnast, queen of beam. You was sooo much better than currently gymnasts. Like all girls from 70s till late 90s you were elegant, had amazing body shape and didnt look like "circus tumblers" we can see today. Best regards from bulgaria
Ah yes body shaming at its finest. There was no need to for your miserable comments on the current girls. You could have just celebrated Shannon and that’s it.
@@jacobmiller2663 You might consider re-reading the comment. There is nothing shameful at all in the comment. There is no doubt but what gymnastics was far more elegant, precise, and graceful, and in many cases more difficult in past years than we see now from most gymnasts. Now, it's all just tumbling, which is what the previous commenter stated.
Oh my God I can actually comment here. I think it's funny your number is your age. Thia was a good year. We had Last Crusade (which I didn't see until VHS) & Batman (ONLY movie I saw in theaters twice)
Yes I 💯 agree !!!!! PLEASE DO MORE SHANNON !!! I JUST ADORE HER SO SO MUCH !!! AND NOT BECAUSE SHE'S MY FAVORITE GYMNAST ! BUT BECAUSE SHE HAS SUCH A POSITIVE ATTITUDE ALWAYS !!
This is great, Shannon. Hope you do more. you should also do some of these for gymnasts competing now. We would love to hear your opinion on those routines:)
