Industrial Revolution is very important cause before 1900 there are no cars or vehicles. And the Airplanes are in their infancy I know railways were invented around like the 1850s and up. But I can imagine how difficult it was traveling a lot by ships before the 1850s I believe
In this video he goes back to the Renaissance period I know the ruins says a lot because of the public events back then. Italy and Greece have a lot of similarities with cultural events
People who hadn't yet invented the telescope, let alone space travel, were able to prove the Earth is round and yet, here we are in the computer age with a growing movement of Flat Earthers...
As an African I ask. Why are yall so infatuated with comparing apes skulls to human skulls? Don’t you think that’s weird by now in 2024 to continue to do so? Hunter gatherers are apes. Cooked meat are tribes.
Freud didn't "start modern psychology", (Charcot and others had done that) . Freud merely popularized his own versions of psychological theory to a wide non-specialist body of readers, by writing books for a "general" public. Otherwise, a very thought-provoking lecture.
What happened to Homo Erectus ? Dunno , he changed man, haven't seen him in 115,000 years or so, way before the first Bruce Springsteen concert. Excellent lecture, we are very lucky students
Great talk, but it's pretty ironic for Richard Carrier to be regurgitating christian propaganda that christianity didn't kill Rome and "axchually" it was already in decline before that. This is simply not true. Constantine and the false emperors that followed him literally made Roman culture ILLEGAL and they punished even children that practiced it with death. They stripped Roman society down to its bones and replaced it with an alien culture. THAT is what killed Rome. And contrary to even more christian propaganda, it happened FAST. Almost immediately after constantine's little tantrum of terror got started the classical art style transitioned into that ugly medieval dwarf shit. Constantine's main advisor lactantius was also a very vocal flat earther. And that's before the germanic element is considered. Rome made a fatal error in employing ridiculous numbers of germanic mercenaries who fell in love with christianity almost as soon as they encountered it. Most people don't know that the vandals and goths that rampaged and pillaged across Europe during and after the fall of Rome were CHRISTIAN and that's literally why they were doing it ala ISIS. Christianity absolutely destroyed Rome. And for the longest time christians and jews were proud of this, and often still are in private, though the public party line is that they actually preserved classical culture, which of course never happened.
Ancient science was different from modern one, they did not have the culture of evidence argument that allowed modern science to progress, so they got bogged down in useless repetitive arguments. There was also no paper and printing and so no way to disperse findings to a wide audience
I don't see the Antikythera as being a computer. You cannot program it. It is basically a mechanical adding machine. Much more sophisticated is the astrolabe, though it is unclear how this was materialised in Antiquity. The astrolabe is most similar to a slide rule, where the complexity is in the display, not the mechanism.
lowkey fire points; i agree that parents be too overbearing these days smh... but don't you think every kid is different and thrive in different environments? just a thought frfr
Sorry for the slant eyed comment, you all are really very handsome people. But, we have worms in our eyes now. You have misbehaved, and you didn't learn anything being Americans. Betrayal to us is..rat material. Rats. So, sorry. They mess with my comments all the time, and this is usually a grown up media social network. Thry have backed me into a corner, and I AM the real thing, not fake. I am fightin' mad, but that comment was a mistake, sorry. Bad form, the rest? Fill in the blanks with dirty minds, I DON'T CARE. I didn't go to your dojo and take a...on your bare feet.
15:45 Now the groups become selfish, they are internally cooperative but they are competing against each other. You have not eliminated conflict you've just elevated conflict higher up the scale that's why if you really want to solve these problems you have to take it all the way up the scale and this leads very very strongly to a whole earth ethic and that's actually the conclusion to my book.
That was interesting, thank you, Dr. Clark. It would be even more interesting to connect our internal mental predictions to dopamine, motivation, reward, and also to the Default Mode Network, to have a more complete picture.
I'm studying neuroscience at the undergrad level at the moment and I really appreciate this lecture. Almost all other "neuroscience" and magic demonstrations are simply about psychology and misnamed "neuroscience." This is the real deal. Thanks.
