A simply wonderful analysis of some of the best music ever written. I've been captivated by these pieces for almost sixty years now. One detail I've always loved is the opening notes of the Adagio of Opus 135. First we hear an F and think "okay, we're continuing in F major". Then an Ab is added- "now he's moving to the parallel minor." But then comes the Db, and we are in a different world. Something that Beethoven does quite regularly. Aaron Boyd was my chamber music professor at SMU and this was the very first piece I performed with him. Seeing this video brought back some lovely memories. I miss that time dearly.
I grew up hearing about Matthew Lipman from mutual friends who are also string players who perform chamber music on the east coast and man does he have a tender sound! Bravo to all here! 🎉❤
Dear Prof Parloff, what do you think of Bernstein’s performance of this quarter with full orchestra? I think it is all splendour of Beethoven magnified to incredible degree
