Two brothers who moved to a small town in the middle of nowhere show how to start with almost nothing and support yourself when you have almost no resources available to you. Over a decade working in an area with five competing truck mount companies, where you are a stranger that nobody knows or trusts is a challenge. But we show you can do whatever you set your mind to regardless of the opposition and hate you have to endure. Along the way you get a lot of hate and people will mock you but you can earn a living instead of giving up and living on the streets. Too many people have given up and we try to encourage people facing the impossible to not give in to hopelessness. Let others laugh but you just do what you need to do!
Keep up the good work, I enjoy your program. Yes I grew up in flooring and in the 70s. I was 10 to 12 years old. My father showed me many many forms of Cleaning that you don’t hear or see of him doing today, and that’s partly because of the materials that carpet is made out of these days. Back on those early days carpet was all juke back carpet or double juke back install a lot of juke carpet a lot of wool carpet. You don’t find that much wool carpet anymore. Oh, you can find it but it’s just not as common keep up the good videos. I just couldn’t help but to mention that the techniques you’re using their techniques has been used for over 70 years, lol. God be with you and your brother and, you have a good one.
Thanks for replying. I appreciate you guys, you usually do reply to my comments. Granted they’re not all the time. I like your videos. I like that you guys inform people of a lot of things which is pretty much true most all the time. It was just that one statement, you guys intended most of the stuff that’s done today and it’s viewed all over the world and how famous I don’t care how famous you are but back in the late 60s and 70s I was doing this cleaning with my father. LOL. You guys are great. I’m the one thing I’d like to request from you guys. Just keep up the good work and the good videos. I wish you guys the very best. God be with you and engage you both.
I do like your videos and I like watching you guys and listen to you go back-and-forth sometime the time. But the comment that was made that you invented a lot of the stuff for carpet cleaning lol, no. I grew up on the flooring, industry and clean more carpet and most people walk on. I’ve done carpet insulation carpet repair and tons of carpet cleaning I have done shampooing I have done shampooing with extraction I’ve done shampooing extraction and with Monnett, I have done bonnet cleaning I have done cleaning with the fiber pad. And as far as Bonnet Cleaning not Cleaning as good as an extraction, you’re pretty much correct but she can get darn close if you use a CRB (counter rotating brush) and then vacuum the snot out of it and all four directions you vacuum and then when you put down your solution, whatever chemical you’re gonna use for the cleaning that day and run the CRB over again before you run your, you will be surprised of how clean you actually get the carpet . I can go on and on most of the time is just calling it something different but it’s the same thing that I’ve done back in the 70s. We did live steam cleaning, not hot water extraction live steam and today they’re saying it’s something new. I have not seen you guys do something or invent something that hasn’t been done already. Machines change colors of machines change pad size change, fragrances change, soaps/detergents have different odors, and they do a few different things in them, but they’re still a detergent of some type or a soap or some type to break loose the bond of the dirt from the material. And then again it depends on what kind of material that you’re on. Aylon polyester, dextran, cotton wool and the same steps for those still standing in place make sure you’re not using a high pH detergent or soap on a cotton wool carpet. You’ll remove the color you’ll call it to shift colors can even show the swirl of the machine that will never come out. Yep, I’ve been in it for a long time and I haven’t seen anything worldwide or changed you guys invented. And not to say anything bad about you guys. I really like you guys and I would probably do a lot of things different. But just because I do them different doesn’t make mine more right than yours. It’s just the way that we would’ve approached it. You guys have a great day. Keep up the good work, watch what you say. God bless you guys.
You make a lot of excellent points and are correct. We were born in 1964 and people were doing this well before that. Running the camera and hearing some of the things my brother says really bothers me sometimes but he likes to stir things up and mess with the critics by over-exaggerating and making huge claims that obviously aren't true. We are just a couple of guys in a small town who work with affordable equipment and basic methods that somehow were seen all over the world. But were seen as a threat to the "industry" because we showed how simple and inexpensive this can actually be done. This should have been something simple that only a small niche of people would find useful but the "industry" feared we could bring the whole thing down and people would stop buying expensive equipment and chemicals. This is because there is so much hype and so many products that really don't do what they are claimed to, and all for very high prices for what they offer. Were the "industry" an actual solid profession, it would be safe from people showing that most of it can be done without spending the money they would like everyone to believe you have to spend. So my brother is very defensive, and actually goes out of his way to lash out at the hype and outright lies that people use to sell overpriced junk to gullible people who just want to make an honest living. They should have all just ignored us and nobody would have noticed us or followed our advice, but their shaky businesses are built on lies and tricks and so they were terrified that we would expose them with too much of the truth. In the end though the general public didn't care about any of this anyway. People buy expensive stuff because they want to have it and it doesn't mater if it works that great or not. Or people can't afford that expensive stuff and buy the things we show (and maybe upgrade later if they like doing this). Don't take what anyone (my brother included) too seriously because like you said, there's nothing new or special here it's all been done before and there are many ways to do it. The correct way is up to the individual to test and find out for themselves and other people may freely do it another way as they choose! Thanks for bringing some truth to a ridiculous subject!
So if you don't need a ton of cleaning time. Just regular household stuff, then the plus wouldn't be worth the extra $70? Would that be correct? I was thinking if the plus comes with extra cleaning attachments or more power/heat....something. something to make it worth the extra $70. Great videos, thank you!
Correct, $70 adds basically unlimited run time and fast initial start up. We found that the NEAT+ runs continuously "in the green" (the light on front that indicates full temp and pressure) where the regular NEAT cycles more (the light goes amber and the pressure may lower until the green light comes back on) so the "+" may have a more powerful burner but we can't say for sure. They still sell the regular NEAT for good reason, because it works great and is reliable. You can always upgrade to the "+" in the future if you decided you want the extra features and we like having spare machines in case one breaks so that is an option for later if you like using these. Our "use-case" scenario isn't typical so if you are just using one around the house for less than an hour at a time, the regular NEAT does everything the "+" does for less and uses the same tools so you can save some money choosing it.
Those wide track vacuums are built like tanks, the belts are don’t cost much to replace so it’s good to buy lots of them and have strong vacuum power and I secret thing I do when using them is every time I empty the bag and shake it out I place a fabric softener sheet inside the bag so when I turn the vacuum on and it starts throwing hot air into the vacuum back as I’m using it then it starts activating the fabric softener sheet like bounce or any kind you wanna use, not to many know about this secret but I’ve used these wide tracks for my business a long long time
I've done that too in the past and it works! Belts are a big deal and I found the good ones and should share the link when I find it because there are some cheap ones that are a waste of money too. I keep extra fans, belts, gaskets, spindle etc in case I hit a nail or rock or similar and break something. All fixable so no big deal!
@@JoeWheeler spare parts for these are a must to have around, there easy to fix and to find parts for, the only drawback I see with these if you gotta be careful like you said about what you suck up or run over with these, if it’s something big you can always push the handle as far down as possible to lift the front of brushes into the air and kick out the objects, the weight of these is heavy there build to last but that push n pull of these if you gotta do large contract buildings is something u gotta think about, for vacuuming non stop like I do for over 2hrs straight I just stick to my Mosquito 10qt backpack vacuum for something big.
Not for this because you want the dust out of the carpet and allow some time for it to fall back down and be sitting there ready for a vacuum to pick it up. Prespray or any moisture will help the dust to stick and not be loosened or vacuumed. Wear a dust mask if you need one and be sure and let the dust have a chance to settle some before vacuuming.
Watch it again because you missed the height-adjustment portion where we man-splained this subject. Take note because this WILL be on the test later and it affects your final grade!
I hope you enjoy it! BTW the Oreck brush had lots of blonde hair in it which doesn't match the customer or her pet so it was from some previous tenant and survived lats of daily vacuuming and cleaning with the Big Green and the Sanitaire RESTORE (BG-10 clone) and the Oreck brush got it out! So this is definitely a good method!
The One Plus is hotter and adjustable pressure but is more expensive. Compare the two on Duprays website and decide if the feature difference is worth the price. I'm not sure that the trigger can be locked on with the One Plus or only locked out for safety but the Neat Plus has locking on feature which is very useful.
The NEAT Plus covers all the basics well enough for the vast majority of people. Unless there is some specific thing that the ONE Plus offers that just isn't available with the Neat Plus but just at a lower level it isn't worth the big price jump for most people. I think you will be happy with the Neat+
We plan to put the SC899 back in service because when extracting you need maximum dry soil removal prior to putting down prespray and water extracting...(see "Mud" in the dictionary). Also, on some jobs we may start the festivities with the Oreck and a carpet brush Used dry) to help break up any embedded debris before using the SC899 to lift the carpet and pull from beneath any fine dirt. This will help avoid creating the mud that nobody seems to want on their carpet. Maybe we will get a "Certified Pile Lifter" and hire a Russian Weight Lifter to carry it up stairs for us and use that too...maybe. We are going to change some things which is funny since these are the way I always wanted to do them but Jay didn't so now I am retired and he wants to do it my way...which is exactly how twin brothers operate. Stay tuned for the mishaps to follow!
We used to do that but it stirred up so much dust it was a real mess. We fought for years about the right way to clean carpets but there's a fast way and a slow way and my brother always pushed for the fast way. I just held my peace and went along. Now he is willing to try more my way so we'll see how that goes since I don't work anymore and only hold the camera on those days i feel up to it. He'll have to do a lot of work to use this method and i don't know that he will want to long term.
bissell and most other companies in usa no longer make there own products now they are just distributors, they are out source and made by the chinese government.
Hopefully this will change in the future but for now this fact should be considered with ANY purchase. I was going to buy another Rug Doctor but now Bissell owns them too so I don't trust they are built like they used to be.
I have the original biggreen commercial cleaner that i have had over 10 yrs and it works great no issues i have look at the newer model but it seems to look cheaply made i don't think it's built as good
Comparing the "Pet Pro" version to the standard BG or the BG10 the only difference appears to be the top portion of the handle being changed from the "T" to a loop with a central switch instead of one mounted on one side. The "loop" or "D" handle is a little taller than the "T" handle. The other specs are basically the same but what has changed in the last ten-years I can't speak to. Time will tell how well made these are an we have already had one fail right out of the box so reliability may be an issue...we'll see. Thanks for chiming in on this!
If needed we have scrubbers and Oreck Orbiters to remove filtration lines and debris. Some people use the hand tool connected to the machine to fix this too but that means bending over or getting on your knees so we'd use other machines. If you MUST clean the edges fully you have to get the Rug Doctor X-3 instead of the Bissell machines. When the carpets dry fully you usually can't see machine marks and everything blends in including the edges but if in doubt you have to focus on them. This is one disadvantage to Bissell!
I have the non pet version and it cleans fabulously. I don't use the machine often as my carpet cleaning gig I tried to do didn't work out, but i do use the machine once in awhile for my personal use.
I saw you use it on VacLab! I'm sorry your business plan didn't work out but it has been one of the worst times in history to try to start a business so it isn't a reflection on people who couldn't get anything going during a time like this. Maybe in the future you could try again and it would be different once things pick up. People just don't care about keeping their carpets clean right now like they used to I guess because the prices of everyday items are so high they just don't want any extras. It makes it tough. I have noticed as well that after COVID and all that people aren't buying steam cleaners or home cleaning equipment in the numbers they used to. People got burned out on cleaning I suppose during all of that and now they are taking a break from it. So that too I guess may pick up again if/when the economy improves and they have excess money again. It's just a giant slump in "normal" life that hopefully soon will return to more or less "normal". Good luck to you and at least you have some nice equipment for personal use that can be used to make money whenever you should feel the desire to do so. Everybody got hit with this same things too so it's not just you so take heart in that!
It was on ONE tank with plenty left over though Jay thought it might be empty because it changed pitch. It seems that IF you touch a wall or doorway with the hinge from the handle it can break the seal and cause a vacuum leak. So if that happens you need to reseat the tanks and relock them down. It has done this a few times so we think that is the problem.
They all need new pumps but otherwise still work fine. We plan to buy another X3 when we get refunded for the defective Bissell so we'll have one new of each brand.
I just got an FC300a a couple weeks ago and it is truly a beast. The only differences between this one and the FC300A are that the FC300A has 2 electrical outlets on the top and no timer, and it has a 20 foot cord instead of a 10 foot cord. It is more powerful than my Vornado 293 HD which also moved an insane amount of air. can anyone here tell me whether the velocity on the FC420 is higher than this one? I know the CFM is higher but I'm only interested in the velocity.
Velocity? I wish I knew. Do they publish these details on their website perhaps? Timer vs Outlets...I never use the timer so maybe the outlets would be more useful. My XPOWER X-47ATR has both the timer AND the outlets and I have used the outlet to daisy chain with the FC300 and that works well, but again I never use the timer. It may be useful in some instances though so maybe I will find timers useful at some point. My FC300 on low is quieter than the 47ATR on it's lowest variable speed so in the home I find it better to use while watching TV and moving a little air and it is a lot lighter when you need to move it around so it gets used a little more than it's big brother to be honest. I love both fans but the FC300 is more in-home friendly due to size-noise-weight...but it does seem the cord is too short once in a while so there's that. I'm glad you like your XPOWER and I hope you can find the info on velocity you're looking for!
Excess heated water could damage electronics and some surfaces SO I would say the Neat+ would be a safer option. For the same price they are worlds apart too so I would get the Neat+ at this point. McCollough needs to upgrade their product to compete at all these days.
Wow. 99 degrees. Hope it starts to cool off soon. Thanks for the demo. You mention at about 9.30 that he might have to vacuum when the carpet is dry to get the marks out. So this type of machine removes most of the dirt but some is left on the surface that can be vacuumed off when dry?
I don't think it is dirt just imprints from each pass. Bissells have a gap on each side and in the front due to the brush roll bearings and belt track where there are no bristles and this leaves cleaning marks. They may disappear as the carpet dries but not always so a vacuum will help blend them back in again. Our Rug Doctors cleaned all the way to each edge and didn't leave these same types of marks but you could sometimes see where each pass had been made just like you can see lines when you vacuum. Raking removes most of these too but it's a pain to rake damp carpet and if people are going to be waling on the carpet right away that step is useless anyway.
The next day the marks were gone and the customer didn't want it vacuumed anyway so it was fine. It's just an initial appearance but if the customer sees it before the marks go away they may not like that look so we would prefer there not be any marks so we can take steps to fix that in the future.
You're welcome! We get all the fun machines in to show everyone what they can do. These should be able to do some amazing work hopefully even better than our Old Rug Doctor videos showed. Almost every machine we try ends up doing more work than people think they could when we push them and these should follow suit. We'll see how they do very soon!
Last year I bought a regular BG10 commercial model and it's made me a good amount of money, of course I'm primarily a VLM cleaner but sometimes the job calls for some heavier artillery. I like it a lot more than rug doctor, my only complaint is the small capacity
We saw your videos about the Oreck and BG10 (and the vacuum cleaner guide too). Yes, every VLM cleaner will likely need an extractor at some point and it doesn't have to be super expensive to do the job so the Bissell Big Greens have been super popular. Rug Doctor doesn't really try to sell their product to consumers very hard so they are falling further and further behind.
None of the Rug Doctors are online right now due to pumps needing replaced (dried out seals won't pressurize and pumps need replaced) so we needed to have an extractor for some jobs. And, Jay is trying to get back into doing vacant apartments and they require extraction so he has no choice with those places. Extraction usually is a lot more work than other methods so he will still use easier/faster methods where he can but you have to have extraction as an option for some people or lose that work...and we used to just skip those jobs but Jay wants to try extraction again so we'll see how long this lasts LOL...
But I bet your mind wandered quite a bit...a lot can happen in 18:17! I can see you are a person with very low standards, much like ourselves LOL. Keep watching, it gets worse!
Joe is retired for health reasons but on an occasional good day can hold a camera for a video. It's sweet of you to notice and it makes me (Joe) happy to hear from you again. It's been a long time and I'm glad you stuck around.
@@JoeWheeler I was very sad when the videos went again. I was over the moon when they came back! I’m still here and will always be here! You guys are awesome!
@@JoeWheeler I've been watching for over a decade. I started a carpet cleaning business because of you 2, sold it in 2020 and am now retired. I know you 2 will certainly put it to the test. Can't wait to see how it holds up!
Wow, that's a long time watching us get older and older. I'm glad you were able to get in and get out hopefully at a profit and that you had a good time with it. Retirement is nice to reach and in some ways Jay is also retired but he wants to do this while retired just being more selective about it. I could do something else all together at this point but shooting an occasional video isn't too much to ask so I will do that much with this business. I actually watch lots of Stump Grinding videos since we did that for over a decade and that was the business I liked best of all so IF I could get a couple of hundred thousand together I would consider doing that again but that is highly unlikely so I may just get some better camera equipment at some point to improve our videos here. I hope you enjoy a long healthy retirement and 2nd childhood LOL!
Okay I'll see you all got the Bissell Big Green I have the original one they made before that model and I had it for 11 years and it's still going as great as it did when it came out of the box brand new love your videos as well also have the commercial orbiter by oreck and I had that for 14 years and never had an issue with it still going strong so thank you for your very educational videos God bless
Sounds like you take good care of your machines to make them last! Our three Rug Doctors all have the pumps out from sitting unused where the seals dry up and you can't build pressure but we can replace the pumps and they will be good as new. We decided to try this new model with the central mounted switch because the older design seemed like ti would be tiresome since it was set for one hand not the other. This fixes that issue. It seems impressive so far but there are things about the Rug Doctor that we liked that are just different that we need to adjust our method too, but that isn't a big deal. We have a second identical Big Green on the way due to a shipping quirk so soon we'll have two machines...but we always try to get duplicates of everything so we can avoid having to stop working if something breaks. So we are all-in on these machines now!
I think the handle design is the major difference from the original. And the color is more subtle with only having green highlights instead of the body being green. If you like the new look better than the old solid green than that may be a deciding factor or the handle design, but the original was a cool look to me with the green body. I guess it's just an aesthetic decision and IF you want the commercial (BG 10?) with the fifty foot detachable cord this model doesn't offer that so thats a thing too.
I have an XPower FC-250D on the way right now. It's supposed to be a step down from the FC-300 but I think it should still be a beast compared to the usual residential fans that I'm used to (Lasko, Vornado).
I would tend to agree with that idea. All of the XPOWER stuff is more commercial quality from affordable to expensive but I think they use the best motors they can instead of the ones with the best volume prices like regular consumer brands. If you look at the highest end Vornado they may have better build and part quality than the affordable stuff but not commercial even at that point. It's hard to say but XPOWER seems to have a higher minimum standard for quality.
On carpets that aren't too soiled because a Rug Doctor or carpet washer FLUSHES the carpets to remove excess dirt whereas the Dupray removes stains and loosens debris so it can be released with the steam and be trapped in the pad. There are limits to how much actual dirt the pad can hold so if the carpets have been neglected for a while an extraction might be the better way to go initially. Followup cleanings can be handled with steam alone.
It all depends. Ten years of normal use with regular vacuuming verses ten years of neglect. If the carpets are in good condition then you could just use a steam cleaner but if there is extensive soiling and pet-mess etc I would have them cleaned and then keep them up with the steam cleaner. I have the equipment to handle the worst carpets but unless you happen to have the stuff you need you'll have to rent it, or hire it done.
Thanks for this video. What makes the McCulloh MC1385 so bad at cleaning carpet. I have 2 medium size rooms with carpet and to small rooms of linoleum. I like the MC1385 for the many attachments and large mop. I am confused that the majority of cannister steam cleaners come with small mop heads. Although, my priority would be to clean kitchen and bathroom, I would also like to clean carpet and can only afford to buy one machine. What do you suggest?
The floor head it comes with isn't as good as the Dupray on many carpets but is fine on hard floors if a little too wet at times. The newest Dupray Neat PLUS cost the same but is a better overall machine in our opinion. If you already have one of them just use what you have but if you are looking to buy one the Neat PLUS is the one we recommend.
