I can not stand the singing in the live action. Where is the vision and soul of the work? Did they throw away all the notes from the seminal original? They copyright _everything!_ So clearly, it was a CHOICE to set aside the notes, which extend bar beyond the brief clips released to the public. It's just yet another reason why Disney is tanking. 📉 Oh well, they always can buy out the next fledgling visionary artist and apply the mouse shaped cookie cutter to remove the visionary aspects from the work _again._
I absolutely love watching clips of Sondheim and Ashman at work directing their actors. They have a very specific vision in their mind of what they want, and they encourage the actor to help them make it happen
I'm doubly sure she was reminiscing over this experience while serving as a random shopkeeper in the marketplace scene of that particular installment of the so-called "live action remake" trend Disney has been going through for the past fourteen years as of now! Man, time's really flying!
I’ve been singing this song since before I can remember -out loud, in my head, when I’m happy, when I’m sad, when I’m excited , when I’m bored…. It’s truly one of my favorite songs of all time. I can only imagine the songs I’d be singing had Howard not been taken so young. ❤
I just watched this today ... it looks like it is at least ten years old. I loved it and it touched me. Bless you every step of the way and continue to shine. <3
Timeless. Perfect. Never to be matched ! Howard working with Jodi on every single detail, every single breath, word, phrase, sentence - to make it perfect and translate into something meaningful and magical… Talent, perfection and execution merging into one-of-a-time recording. I’m still amazed after all those years and countless performances 😊
I remain obsessed with how effortlessly she emits one of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard in the first few seconds of this clip. A bravura performance while they're not even taping.
As much as I love Halle Bailey version of the song, you can tell it was more so about emotion for Howard not so much vocals which Halle was giving , it was a certain way he wanted the song sung and you can tell just by how many times Jodi Bendon went over it. But both versions were great.
I was in a debate with someone about how I don't think covers of part of your world shouldn't sound TOO grandiose, and I was trying to explain things in the way that I remembered this video. The way he descirbes the intensity and the breaths, the "not letting it out", it's kind of this contained excitement. She looks to go past the surface but she never reaches it. She's literally enclosed in a grotto due to how she feels enclosed. It's brilliant
This recording session made me sob uncontrollably. Her voice brings me to my knees then my tears flow like a waterfall. But why? Could it be my reaction to something so incredibly beautiful? I don't know. But I love it... I love it.
Jodi is gallantly GOR-geous in this video. It's amazing, this is the moment the magic was captured. Every expression on her face she just pulls me in closer. She makes it look effortless, and along with Howard's direction, she just feeds off it. Nothing tops this backstage glimpse. Watching her, the expressions, every thought, feeling, emotion, and curiosity, and how it shows by her performance, was a huge service to humanity. Thanks to whomever had the idea of taping this and publicizing it later in the bonus content of Disney stuff. Howard was JUST getting started. What wonders might we have been blessed with if there was the kind of treatment there is now back then. To what heights would he have gone to. What a loss.
i'm really impressed by the fact that, knowing what the final version sounds like, i can tell exactly what he's asking her to do... because between the two of them, they did capture all that perfectly in the final!!
I’m a 43 yo male who haven’t watched a single Disney movie in my life. It’s simply just not my kind of movie. This clip made me want to watch the movie. Her expression and timing is perfect. Very very impressive performance.
This footage is so incredible. Howard’s direction was so specific yet so gently delivered, and Jodi was just a willing piece of clay. And look at what this collaboration produced - one of the most memorable songs of the entire Disney canon.
