Thanks for this. I'm finally in the market for a new saw and was between this one and the PCS for my small shop.

Thank you for this video! I want to do this in my bathroom, but I want to stencil paint the floor. Do you know if this mapei self-leveler can be painted? I wonder if the painting would happen before the sealant. I can’t find any answers online.
@beardedspruce
@beardedspruce 11 дней назад
I am not 100% sure. A lot of concrete is died before poured for color. But, if you are going to paint, I would def do it before you seal it, to get maximum penetration into the poured concrete before you seal it.

I purchased a piece of crap WEN 4214 drill press and was able to square the table left to right but it was badly out of square front to back. I assumed that the vise I mounted on the table must have thrown it out of square so I removed it and tried again. I discovered that it was the table itself that was out of square so I decided I could shim the vise and level things up. Wrong - the table is DEFORMED and has one low corner. Which is basically impossible to shim and fix. I went back and forth with WEN forth three weeks and they finally suggested I PURCHASE a new table from them that might possibly be square front to back. ...isn't the entire purpose of a drill press to drill holes that are square with your work? This POS fails miserably!

No disrespect but shiplap doesn’t have gaps between the boards. They need to be rabbited joints that overlap one another
@beardedspruce
@beardedspruce 19 дней назад
Not sure why this would make me feel disrespected. This is a “cheap and easy way to get the same look as shiplap” which using an over sized rabbit joint gives the illusion of a consistent 1/8” gap. This method was to show someone that doesn’t want to pay or have the tools needed to have that look! Thanks for your comment and best of luck with your project!

The Jet is actually the exact same machine for double the money. It’s rebranded with different colors and a couple of different aesthetics. That means that the only budget aspect of the Wen is the price. In other words Wen is giving you more bang for the buck.

My question is what concrete did you use over top of the subfloor BEFORE your Mapei Self Levelling concrete final layer? Were you able to concrete over the patches of old adhesive and bits of tile you mentioned that you started with? Asking as I have a similar floor to deal with (removing very old thick tile and left with a rough bumpy surface over older concrete. Do I need to get that completely smooth before I apply another layer of concrete? Or do I need to paint on a primer on top of the rough bumpy bits to allow concrete to concrete adhesion?
@beardedspruce
@beardedspruce 3 месяца назад
All I did is paint the primer on top of the old gross bumpy adhesive and random bits of tile. Then poor the self leveling concrete on top according to the instructions! Best of luck with your project!

People do self leveling on top of plywood subflooring. You have to make sure you have no gaps where it could leak through and now movement because it will crack if there is any give

I bought my fully loaded (premium fence, cast iron wings, wheel kit) in 2015 and have no regrets. I've been wood working for almost 60 years and I would rate this saw tops. Yes, it is somewhat costly but the performance together with the safety feature make it worth the investment.

Are the water lines for the faucet exposed underneath or were you able to hide them underneath? Could you share a picture of the plumbing underneath?
@beardedspruce
@beardedspruce 3 месяца назад
They are exposed, but you can only see them if you look underneath. Unfortunately, there isn’t a great way to share a photo on RU-vid. But, if you are worried about it, you could make the front longer to cover up more of that stuff. Best of luck on your project!

One thing puzzles me. I'm watching another video from the US and I see that every time you anchor the wood directly into the ground with concrete. In our country in Poland this is impossible, no one does it that way. We always use anchors. After a few months of rain or snow, won't this wood rot?
@beardedspruce
@beardedspruce 3 месяца назад
In my experience anchors are only used for things like deck or pergola footings where there are multiple pieces that can help with lateral support. If you used anchors here it would just fall over the first time you used it. This is treated wood, so they will last in the ground about 20-30 years before they rot. For instance, that fence behind was installed about 25 years ago and is still holding strong with the post being in concrete.

Thank you for showing all the steps in the video. Thanks to you I am in the process of doing this. I have a question about the sealing- you said 2 coats? Was that too slippery? Also, did you wet the roller first? I am planning to do this step tomorrow. Thanks in advance!!
@beardedspruce
@beardedspruce 3 месяца назад
2 coats seemed pretty perfect IMO. You could always do 1 and let it dry to see if you think it’s enough. I wanted a little more protection. I did not wet the roller first, I don’t think it would hurt anything though. Best of luck

Thanks for this video. I'm building essentially the exact same thing, just without the overhang. Did you do any calculations on the load these beams can take? Some elementary calculations puts the load roughly in 1000s of lbs... I'm assuming it will hold 2 kids with no problem :D This question is related to the top beam.
@beardedspruce
@beardedspruce 4 месяца назад
Awesome! Super excited for your project. From the little research I did it looks like the load capacity is 1200lbs. But I am not sure on the longer length on your build. Either way, it is plenty for a few kids!

Great review! I did not know that the brake could be triggered with moist wood. That’s disappointing as many of my projects involve recently purchased pressure treated wood. Also, the dust collection on the contractor series is new to me also. I may look at the cabinet saw but don’t have 240v service in the garage for a 3hp motor. I’m glad I ran across your review. All the best!

I actually just divided mine up by 5 and got my spacing for the 2 swings. I would say don’t go any closer then 12” to each post
