I like tattoos but they don't age well, you get fading and loss of skin tone. The worst thing though is that they look ridiculous on old people. I've not yet seen an old person with lots of tatts who looks good, it mostly just looks sad.
if i've learned anything from my crippling tattoo addiction, it's that everyone reacts differently to different areas. what made me see god was the lower back & thigh, yet sat fine for the top of the head, palms & ribs...
When every 40 something old white women started getting them to be spiritual. Now it's a desperate attempt to be relevant. Back in "the day" it was a statement to not fit in. Which is true for about every fashion, or hair-dying or piercing thing....
I think it stems from social media (like most things do) because your hands, neck and legs are parts that many people will see, so it's usually for achieving a certain aesthetic rather than what it used to be, which is an actual meaningful symbol.
Cant knock it, i jus cant fill my entire body up with pre made flash designs n traced hannah barberra cartoon characters..i love to see my artist draw me a unique, never before seen piece ( Mark Cross nyc & Francesco Ferrera from Rome, now in cali, but comes to nyc every year)
I don’t understand this whole concept of tattoos hurting less at a younger age. I find this completely false and on the contrary I can deal with the tattoo pain at 31 better than I could for my first tattoo at 19. (Now with Two arm sleeves, one leg sleeve, large back piece.) At my age now I just have the years behind me to have experienced more physical pain throughout my life and have the mental ability to deal with it better. I have just have built the fortitude and through living and going through things whether that be working a manual labor job, sustaining injuries or training martial arts. My 19 year old self was much softer. Just my experience. And I do imagine this goes through diminishing returns once you reach a certain age but I would guess that’s into the mid 40s
Think this quite a common thing with artists. They believe you have earn things like hand tattoos. The place I got mine done wouldn’t touch the hand until the arm was fully sleeved and the hand tat was earned. I understand why it’s like that. By the time you get the whole arm done you will fully know and understand if you gonna be happy with a tattoo that’s impossible cover. Unless you wear gloves all you life.
