Just finished reading Spec. 5 Birdwell’s 1997 book: “A Hundred Miles of Bad Road: An Armored Cavalryman in Vietnam 1967-68” This account not only chronicles Birdwell’s actions on 1/31/1968 which are verbally documented in his Medal of Honor ceremony; but also actions for which Birdwell rec’d his second Silver Star on the night of July 4th, 1968. Birdwell drove his tank into save the crews of not one, but two Armored Personnel Carriers who had been ambushed in the Village of An Duc. At least 10 soldiers owe their lives to Birdwell’s action on that day; in addition to scores who were saved in his defense of Tan Son Nhut airbase on the first day of the Tet Offensive 1/31/1968. Birdwell’s book is an excellent, candid treatise on the chaotic conditions of combat, and how many of the US’s policies were ineffective in winning the conflict against a very determined enemy. Great read, Specialist Birdwell; and congratulations on your very, long overdue, recognition for your Service.
One of my friends was a little girl who was one of the last people to be evacuated from Saigon. She is now a Colonel in the US Army. Here's an article about her: www.army.mil/article/244704/once_a_war_refugee_soldier_rises_through_armys_ranks

Howard- What a beautiful tribute to Lincoln you have created. His energy, joy, warm connections to friends, sense of humor, and his kindness permeate this video and are reflected in each of these pictures. I wish I could have known him. I send thoughts of support and friendship to you as you honor Lincoln on this solemn anniversary. Your friend, Dan Cohen
