This is a great video and you are a great script writer. I hope you'll give an update of your fleet sometime. -A guy who is glad he lives an hour and a half from Richmond.
Oil changes every 5000 miles , Oil and Fuel Filters every Second Oil change and That Old Girl Should run forever . Beautiful condition on it . Indeed , only Slightly Used . Mercedes from that Era WERE superbly well made .
Excellent buy, Congratulations! You won’t find Cupholders on those Cars, is a Safety Issue in Germany were you need both hands in the steering wheel while driving in the Autobahn at over 125mph plus. Drink your coffee at Home!
Some of the coolest cars I've ever had the pleasure of driving and working on are the old mercedes wagons. The ones that were taken care of are worth their weight in gold because 90% of the remaining ones still out there are neglected, abused and eaten away by decades of rust and rot. You, sir, have a time capsule. Not a rust bucket.
As a diesel wagon owner and enthusiast (VW JSW TDI), this is my attainable dream car for my next car. What’s it like driving as a daily though? What if it’s the only car you own? How many miles can you go on a full tank of diesel? Where do you take it for servicing?
I have the same car in my garage that belonged to my grandfather that died in 2014. Since then, it has been sitting there, waiting for me to fix it. Luckily for me, i decided to became a car mechanic so hopefully, soon i will get this legend running once again. Such a magnificent car!
I disagree with the first wise man. Most mercedes can be brought back from all but the worst condition for pretty cheap. Especially if you can get a parts car. I don't disagree with the sentiment but these cars just don't qualify like some cars.
Awesome car! When my eyes get fixed and I can drive again, I am going to get a classic Mercedes. Id like a W126, but I won't be picky. As long as it's pre 2000 and preferably 80's.
I would love to get my hands on one of these in good condition for daily driver (although my '83 300D wouldn't be too happy about that). But it's true with my W123, it loves to be driven every day and she's running great.
Om603 is a inline 5, they didnt bring out the 6 cyl om606 until after the facelift on the 124’s. And didnt bring it to turbo versions until ‘98 with the w210
Negative ghost rider. OM 602 is 5-cylinder. OM 605 is also 5-cylinder. OM 603 is the 12 valve 6-cylinder OM606 is a 24 valve 6 cylinder. Sequentially: 601 602 603 604 605 606. Four Five Six cylinder 12 valve Four Five Six cylinder 24 valve.
This would suit my selection of vehicles, awd cars from the 80's and 90's well. So i'll get a S124 but in 4-matic so i am 100% sure it bring me misery and pain. Thanks for a great and even poetic video Sir
Great Video .i have two 230te estates , i am now in my 80s and i do most of my maintenance and have done so for many years one is 1990 the other 1992 excellent cars!!
Very nicely written and read VO and story telling. Sometimes I just don't understand why the better videos on YT have so few hits and subscribes. Many times a fella can simply sit there, on a desk, like they did in the 50s TV days, and talk irritating sh1t, and get millions; and yet another guy can really think and work a story and get little... I guess I just don't understand. You deserve far more my friend. Old diesel estates (wagons you say) are like faithful horses that take the cowboy far and long. Love my old Audi A4 Avant with 252K happy miles long over Europe, too.
I wish I cared enough to put out content that I don't really care about, but I don't. I like to think my attention is valuable, but it seems that is not the case for everyone. Thanks for the kind words!
@@aj_nichols I hear you brother. I just like the ordinary fella and the freedom of his auto; since I am that man too. A true journey talks more than the cushioned ride. All the best.
It was being picked up from the hotel every morning by a taxi sedan one of these whilst on a work training course in Germany in the mid 90s that started my love affair with Mercedes that I have still to this day. I owned a later W211 with the OM648 3.2 inline six turbodiesel about 15 years ago & what a great motor that was. I love the exterior & interior colours of that btw.
Sad that the US spec 300tdt didn’t get the rare ventilated front fender. Currently driving a 1988 euro spec 300tdt in Blauschwartz metallic with the vented fender!
I love everything about this car, even the red interior, except for the slushbox. I'd be obligated to either source the W124 five-speed or just get an adapter plate for a Tremec T5. I'd probably end up putting a tuned fuel pump and all the 2.3-16v suspension bits in and just have a ball daily driving it.
I had a Euro version of this car and it felt like a tank. Euro cars were funky because most of the stuff that was standard on US cars was optional on Euro. My car had no sunroof or cruise or automatic climate control, it had manual seats in cloth and manual climate control, but did have A/C. Awesome cars.
