So, I try be really specific with how I prompt it and structure it, and give it audio samples to use etc. For that one, I forgot to write anything about the vocal, and it gave me that. Doesn't fit with the theme at all but it's so good that I kept it. On the last video, I did one with a female voice intentionally (Vore) but this one was just a gaffe from me that worked out really nicely.
Having had so much more than a fair share of poignant moments throughout my life I'm reluctant to dive into this ST journey. I shouldn't even be here reading comments. I blame Wil Ramos for his kick ass cover of Choke Hold. Damn you Wil! Damn you....
I only noticed whilst making this that Calcutta's hook contains "say your name" and then Jericho's contains "say my name." A sign of things to come... EDIT: I have no idea what happened at the end, there, and YT won't let me cut it off as there's a copyright claim on the video. EDIT2: I've checked the audio file and it isn't on there, only on the video render. What did I do?!
Also, the only thing I MIGHT disagree with, and honestly I haven’t fully decided yet is that Euclid might actually be HER reaching out to him after some time has passed and finally realized she fucked up, but it’s too late. I think it’s more powerful towards Vessel’s story as well, because I can’t tell you how amazing it feels to finally be strong enough to not answer those late night phone calls or return those can we talk for like 5 min messages. And I think it might actually be HER asking HIM if he still thinks about her as much as she does after realizing she had the world at her fingertips and let it slip through thinking it would always be there.
Thank you. Very late to the Sleep Token party here, and it’s always been obvious this has been about one HELL of a toxic relationship, but having been through something that felt very similar to this when I was younger it hits hard. I hope Vessel has gotten either some serious therapy, or at least has managed to put this all behind him with these albums because I don’t believe you write something like this unless you’ve been dragged through it.
It's gonna be a quadrilogy... I heard there was a new wave band in the 80s called The Token (singular). They had a hit called Quiet and Loamy, and another top 40 song that went "show me those pretty white jaws" or something...
Man those altered lyrics are insane. I had to pause the video everytime I need to sing the original song in my head haha really really good, same lyrics different output all together <3 a way more different beast!
" a call from Olympus ringing off the hook" reminds me of the story of Pandora when Ephimetheus were warned by Prometheus not to accept any gift from the gods and then he received Pandora "all gifts"
Remembering the video of Fall For Me, I started to believe that Sleep is us, the audience (in extention of one or more traumatic relationship(s) Vessel had ) i think Sleep is an amalgamation of her and the audience worshipping Vessel for singing his guts and feelings. Now I understand the "if we are to submerge, let us be submerged together "
So, I went to the second hand vinyl shop yesterday and found a record from the late 60s called The Garden of Eden by a band called The Tokens. I'll show you this weekend, at some point.
I just got into all of this recently, the music, the lyrics and the meanings. Your Video helped me very much to understand more. Thanks for the hard work you put into this. Sleep Token just brought me back to heavier music after a very long time and i'm very thankful. Can't wait to hear them live in November!
also, the fact that the second song is always the heaviest signifies another thing. The number 2, may actually resemble vessel and sleep. the heaviest song is 2 because the TWO of them have this heavy and intense relationship.
@roystoncharmaine1537 Oh yes, I would listen to this as well. It just doesn't hit me the same. Maybe because it is Ai, it doesn't have the emotional impact that I get from Sleep Token.
First off, thank you for taking the time to provide such a detailed and interesting explanation of this trilogy! I never would’ve thought to have seen these 3 albums from your point of view, however, it’s my favorite explanation thus far. What dedication it patience it must have taken ST to complete such a story, granted, it more than likely reflected a lot of personal experiences from the band members. Again, thank you! This was amazing!! You did an excellent job! Also, plugging in “When the Bough Breaks” at the very end was a nice edition. Crazy how long this band has been around and thankfully they’re getting rightful recognition. WORSHIP
This is a wonderful deep dive into their music, the potential meanings of their lyrics and everything around them and it's been a fascinating listen. As with a lot of other people, much of this resonates with me. At some point in our lives I think it's fair to say that the majority of us have been in relationships that we may or may not have realised at the time were toxic, even before the phrase was coined. And I know I won't be the first or only person to say that Vessel is a lyrical and musical genius (whether he would wish to be know as such or not - I would say at a guess not), but his lyrics have been the catalyst to a lot of recognition of what a toxic relationship and the beginning of many healing journeys. Sometimes it's too painful or raw to hear that's what's happened and to be able to see facets of this, well, that's very painful too. Long may our recognition and healing journeys continue!
