I do wish that Blair would’ve put this fight aside for the photo personally. I think chuck was an ass in this episode but Blair really has been family for him and it would’ve symbolised a lot for her to recognise that.

Chuck is genuinely such a nasty individual and extremely and I mean extremely narcissistic like I’m so mad they ended up together, this was his peak when it came to abusing Blair he’s sick and obsessed with her. Everybody who romanticizes this relationship, I worry for you

The fact that Blair kissed Dan in particular is what set Chuck off. Chuck hates Dan because he comes from a loving family. He’s jealous of him, but can’t admit that. Meanwhile, Dan hates Chuck, but envies his place in the upper east society. A place Dan has to work very hard for is just given to Chuck.

This is so heartbreaking because Chuck let his walls down to be with Blair, and you can see with every little bump in the road, his walls slowly going back up. First the anniversary of his father’s death provoked something in him. He wants to prove himself so badly, but can’t shake the fear that love makes you weak. Then Jack sets up the mother fiasco, with Chuck opening his heart to someone and then having it smashed to bits. Then Jack sets up the Blair trade, which he never intended to follow through on. He just wanted to separate them, since Chuck was always a sharper opponent with Blair by his side. Chuck is totally to blame, and deserved the slap, but you can almost see why he did it. When he says- “I can’t let my feelings cost me all that I’ve built!” That’s such a Bart Bass line. Chuck considers himself a failure unless he becomes his father, but can’t juggle those feelings simultaneously with his love for Blair. At least, not yet.
@luckyDancer100

Even when they’re not together, they still love each other. Blair swallowed her pride and made sure Chuck didn’t lose contact with Lily. Chuck sent in Blair’s application for Columbia. Then, even after the Jenny situation, Blair hired a private investigator to look for Chuck to make sure he’s okay. They’re always connected.

Blair getting engaged so soon is kind of insane. She dated Louie very briefly over the summer, they didn’t speak for months, and then they date for maybe an episode or two before becoming engaged. There’s no way Blair was in love with him. She was in love with the idea of him, and the validation it gave her. If he had been a chauffeur, like she originally thought, this wouldn’t be happening. She was just fed up with Chuck, and waiting for him to get it together. She jumped into another relationship just so she didn’t need to keep hustling at W, or dealing with Chuck’s nonsense. She took a shortcut route to something she thought would make her happy, and that’s why her life unravels in S5.
@luckyDancer100

Honestly I don’t think Chuck thinks he has even an inkling of a shot with Blair, and he’s trying to recreate what they had with Eva. He’s trying to fill that void. Eva’s sole purpose (as a character) was to make Blair jealous, and to make Chuck realize he couldn’t just conjure a relationship out of thin air. Everything he was doing was to make Eva happy, to make Eva love him, but he wasn’t being his true self. It’s why when the relationship ends, he immediately asks Blair if there was a reason behind it- “is it possible you still love me?” And why he returns to his former self. He doesn’t need to pretend anymore.

This is what a true toxic relationship looks like let’s stop glamorizing toxic abusive relationships
@sammyemmy4
@sammyemmy4 Год назад
It wasn’t abusive. The writers of the episode reiterated as much. According to them, Blair wasn’t scared of Chuck, or afraid he would hurt her, because she knew he never would. She was afraid for him and his mental state. Chuck wasn’t trying to rape her, or hit her. His world was just falling apart and he always thought that Blair would be waiting in the wings for him (as she promised she would I might add), once she gained career success. Yes he was being downright possessive, but I attribute that to his mental state and the alcohol. He doesn’t actually think of Blair as something he owns. Not to mention two episodes later he saves her life and selflessly gives her up to Louis out of a desire for her to be happy. I’ll admit i stood by Chuck through a lot in this show, but THAT scene made me waver. If there is one thing I cannot condone it’s physical abuse. However time, future episodes and explanations from the creators helped me move past it. Remember it’s only a tv show. It’s fine to move on and forgive in the fictional sense but if this were real life I’d tell Blair to run for the hills.

Okay, once again, where’s the “I’m sorry”? Because “oh look what I’ve been going through” doesn’t sound half as good (and also to me seems a bit manipulative, although I get that I may be reading into this)
@luckyDancer100

He stops pursuing her in the S4 finale, and admits Louie is the more stable choice. Then in S5, we see Louie isn’t that perfect. Blair starts having regrets when Chuck gets therapy, and makes real changes. He apologizes for everything (including his reaction to Blair’s engagement), and it makes Blair realize he’s become the person she always knew he could be.
@kornelia625
@kornelia625 Год назад
@@luckyDancer100 Yeah I don’t need a recap of the show, I’ve seen it… what I’m talking about is this specific scene and he does not apologise here. And the question of “oh but he’ll do it later” is really not the point.

@ig5867
@ig5867 2 года назад
I recently finished watching the show and I want to put my two cents in. To all those writing "omg, how can you ship them after this, Chuck is a violent monster etc." type of comments here and elsewhere. Firstly, Chuck's reaction, that is, hitting the window, is very out of character here because neither before nor after this incident we see him reacting to upsetting and life shattering moments (Blair leaving him multiple times, his father's death, his mother using him and helping his uncle to steal his hotel, his resurrected father taking everything away from him and mocking his love for Blair as a weakness, Lily betraying him etc.) this way. To me the second part of Season 4 is where things in order to keep Chuck and Blair apart started to get really contrived. Plotpoints like the window breaking scene and Blair's inexplicable decision of getting engaged at the age of 20 to a man she barely knew suddenly forgetting all about her career aspirations served for that purpose but made no sense from characterization point of view and should have never happened. Secondly, if we dismiss the ooc factor, this scene is about Chuck hurting himself and how him hurting himself may affect people around him (namely Blair who gets injured by splinters of glass falling from the window broken by Chuck). As bad as it was he didn't hit Blair, he didn't aim to hit her, he didn't intend to hurt or scare her, he didn't shout at her and no, he didn't attempt to rape her. And Blair isn't scared of Chuck, she is scared for Chuck here as becomes evident in the subsequent episodes. The writers of Gossip Girl themselves have confirmed that in their interviews if for somebody it isn't clear from the scene itself. Thirdly, Dan, Nate, Blair, Serena, Lily - all they have raised their hands against someone at some point in the course of the show which Chuck doesn't do in this scene and unlike some of the aforementioned characters he has never raised his hand against his beloved ones. Would you call them out as violent and say that nobody should be together with them for hitting or slapping people or only call out Chuck for hitting an unanimated object? Fourthly, regarding Chuck saying that Blair is his because I see it troubling people. Well, she *was* his. "Three words, eight letters, say it and I'm yours", remember? They both said those words, he knew that Blair loved him and he loved Blair and according to them both that made her his and him hers. That's why it was so inconceivable to him that she would agree to marry Louis (and it indeed made no sense whatsoever especially as it became evident in Season 5 Blair didn't really love Louis , ugh that stupid prince Louis storyline). It isn't a coincidence that Blair's favourite movie "Breakfast at Tiffany's" has the same message - "I love you, you belong to me... people DO belong to each other because that's the only chance anybody's got for real happiness". And it is reiterated again in Season 6 when Blair tells Chuck "I need you, I'm all yours". So it wasn't Chuck's words that were wrong in this scene, what was wrong here was his emotional condition. In conclusion, ship them or not ship them, Chuck and Blair's problem was not their love or acceptance but their emotional issues that torpedoed their relationship during several times in the course of the show and that needed to be solved and were solved by the end of the show. Solving and overcoming them was the point of their story on the show. And although Chuck's actions were wrong in these scenes it's absurd to condemn Chuck as some monster, claim that he would beat Blair, or say that they didn't love each other, should never be together and nobody should ship them. It simply isn't supported by the show's canon.

As fucked up as chuck is (especially for what he did in this scene), you gotta admit that Blair accepted Louis’ proposal for all the wrong reasons. No matter how hard she tried to convince herself she was over him, we all know he was her true love.
