I love sharing reviews of newly published games; solo games; retro games from the 70s/80s; expansions for well-known games that don't often get highlighted; and games in my collection that might be a few years old, but that I still love.
So, I think, the reason the circle makes all spots "mathematically equal," is that each spot (and this counts for the islands too) has two spots that won't help it complete a line, two spots that will complete one line, and two spots that complete its other line. So if you recorded your moves, you could replay the same game, even if you started on a different space. No space is inherently different than any other. So unlike tic-tac-toe, there's no difference between an edge, corner, or center. But once pieces have been played, then differences matter, because of their relative connections. Neat!
I liked your rundown, but you might consider not moving the game from hand to hand. I kept trying to read the titles but it was very difficult and had to wait for you to say the name of the game.
THANK you for posting this! Solo player always looking for this style of game with difficult choice puzzle elements and a striking theme to look at - beautifully done! Perfect timing as have been scouring Kickstarter etc not much success... did you buy direct from their website? I'm in Australia as well
Glad I found you! Onirim is my favorite solo game, and happy to hear that you love it as well. I'll be watching your videos now for new (to me) game suggestions! Are you on IG?
The Button Shy Games, that I am fond of and in no Particular order… Circle the Wagons Season of Rice The Sprawlopolis series The Ugly Gryphon Inn Tussie Mussie Space Shipped Tides Food Chain Island Unsurmountable Death Valley
The current standard set consists of bakelite tiles. It only has the pieces for the classic game. The mosquito, ladybug, and pillbug are sold separately. There is no plan to sell the standard set with all expansions. With Hive Carbon and Hive Pocket, the mosquito and ladybug are already included. The great thing with Hive Pocket is that you can bring it almost anywhere. You can use it to study games or puzzles further. Hive Carbon gives you the feel of playing classical chess because of the black and white scheme. If you can easily distinguish shapes, the lack of color differentiation won't really matter.
The 4 I play the most are Food Chain Island with Tough Skies and Friendly Waters, Skulls of Sedlec with Monstrance (awaiting the expansions), Spaceshipped with all expansions and Base Sprawlopolis. Sprawlopolis is a later comer, I've had it for yonks and really never enjoyed playing it. I took it on holiday as an either, use it or move it on. I didn't understand why I didn't like it much, I suspect there was a rule issue somewhere. But it now gets regular runouts. The advantage to me is that they are easy to get out and put away and can occupy 10-20 minutes of downtime without issue.
My favorite game from button shy is Skulls of Sedlec. Solo or 2 or 3 player. And based on real situation Bone Church': Located in Czech city Kutná Hora, Sedlec Ossuary is adorned with around 40,000 human skeletons. Eerie chapel: The bones were taken from the huge cemetery that encased Sedlec during medieval times.
If this game is in your top 10 solo card deck games, then what are the other nine games? Can you recommend more games like this? This game is something that I think I've been looking for a long time. Thanks for the review!
You have a knack for finding beautiful games. This looks like a relaxing game. It is nice to know about the promo tiles and the differences between the two versions.
Thanks for pointing out that this is the same game as Morels but with prettier artwork. What a great recommendation that you have enjoyed it for a decade! It would be lovely if it came with game mat that was a forest path. :)
This is a fun game. Thank you for taking the time and doing this video. It is helpful that you show a close up of the game pieces and you explain in detail everything that comes with this game. First time seeing your channel, I will check out your other videos.
How many BS games have you tried roughly you say?! It’s so hard to narrow down to a top 10 especially with so many great new ones coming out etc. Really enjoying the micro game /solo content - long many it continue 👍👌
