You can see the problem as soon as a local person spoke. He claims there is no such thing as cypriot but only Greeks and Turks that live on the island. This is why there will never be a unified cyprus. Genetically Cypriot greeks and Cypriot Turks are closer to each other then either one being Turkish or Greek. These people should show nationalism toward cyprus and not for Turkey or Greece. But history is never wrong. People from Cyprus are use to taking on other identities to survive. Sad really. Its been fifty years and still no answers. Still no plan to unite. The poor youth of the north, cant participate in any competitions, and they had nothing to do with the same group of nationalist that wanted cyprus to be united with Greece back in 1974. Also i find it hard why people cant see why Turkey got involved. And for that i guess they need to read about the greko turkish war that had all the turks in crete displaced. There is only around 1500 left and they are labeled at muslim and not turkish. Also on the strategic point. All the islands areound turkey are greek why would they allow the same to happen to Cyprus.

There's like 2 minutes of content from the North and half of it is from a mosque. The narrative wants you to believe that it's objective but the story is only about the poor little greek cipriots who suffered a lot under the boot of the barbar (they don't use the word, of course) Turks. What happened before 1974? Nobody cares. Who are Sampson, Grivas, Makarios? What is Eoka, Akritas, Enosis? Nobody cares. Poor greek cipriot cannot go back to his house in Güzelyurt because his country has rejected every opportunity to reunification including Annan Plan ühü ühü ühü.

Turkish Cypriots were imprisoned by Greek national guard on 20 July 1974 so we had no choice but to go along with the population exchange as there was no safety for us to stay in the South so it was not only Greek Cypriots that were expelled we were imprisoned and expelled too so we left South and settled in the North

Cyprus must have had a similar experience to what many of the Palestinians did, when, without much warning the state of Israel was reestablished. That story is rarely realized by those in the Western World. The Hebrews, Isralies, and Jews, needed a homeland again and the Palestinians needed their homes and land that had been their for over 2 thousand years. I sympathize with both, and I know the resolution can only be reached through the Higher Mind, Communication, and a Desire to experience Harmony. The Public gets manipulated by the few for their desires and Profits.

It’s funny how this guy telling the story very much leans towards the greek side of the story and fails to tell the truth equally! He mentioned that the Greeks where forced out of 16 greek villages, which is true in 1974. But he failed to state the Turks where driven out of 103 Turkish villages from 1963 to 1974. All the Turkish villages where burnt down or raised to the ground. He mentions that churches in the north have been ruined?? I live in the Turkish Republic of northern Cyprus and there is still a church in most villages in the north. But again he fails to mention that most mosques in the greek south have been decimated by the greeks. My fathers village klavga is one example where the mosque has been flattened and a church built in its place. He also fails to tell you about the greek Cypriot plan to get rid of all Turks off the island and make it all greek and make it a part of greece (enosis). And most importantly the Turkish intervention on July 20th 1974 was to stop greeces 20,000 forces who staged a cou to kill makarios and to kill all Turkish Cypriots in Cyprus and make it all greek. Lastly since 1974 there has been no major troubles. Hardly anyone has been killed and there is peace and prosperity on the island ever since the Turkish intervention. It’s Turkey who guarantees peace in Cyprus, not the u n. Furthermore all the Greeks that want peace and to live together again with there fellow Turkish Cypriots like we use to in the olden days……….. A question to you all, Where was you from 1963 to 1974 when greek militia terrorist group e o k a was ethnic clensing or slaughtering innocent Turkish Cypriot men women elderly and children as young as a few days old??? Where was you. You was complicit in it or at best turned the other way while your neighbours the Turks where being turned on by there own greek neighbours and slaughter in cold blood. Peace at home peace to the world. God bless Turkey!!

It's neither prejudice nor patriotism that disadvantages entrepreneurs from the turkish occupied part of the island in their attempts to sell their products to markets in the area controlled by the legitimate government of the Republic of Cyprus. These "entrepreneurs" are exploiting land that rightfully belongs to Greek Cypriots who were forced out of their ancestral homes by the turkish military in an act of ethnic cleansing. The International Criminal Court clearly defines Turkey's actions of deportation, forcible transfer of population and implantation of settlers as war crimes.

As a Greek Cypriot I have to say the following: There is a lot that this documentary does not exhibit. And at certain points it is filled with inaccuracy. Let me give you two examples: First, at 6:50, the Republic of Cyprus, the only internationally recognised country on the island, is portrayed as having sovereignty only over the southern part of the island, and while it is granted that this is the only part of the island that it currently controls due to the Turkish invasion and occupation of the north, the Republic of Cyprus is recognised by the international community and conventions as having sovereignty over the island *in its entirety*. The way in which this documentary portrays the different portions of the island at 6:50 seems to be misrepresenting the afore mentioned facts. Secondly, at 15:11 it is mentioned that since the 1960s tensions between the Greek Cypriots and the Turkish Cypriots often erupted intro violence and from what I have been told by members of both communities, this is true but this documentary does not mention who was responsible for pitting them both against each other inciting said violence... I'll give you a clue... THE BRITISH EMPIRE 👎. At 15:21 it is claimed that the invasion of the Turkish army in 1974 was a God-sent for the harassed Turks, when in fact it was both sides that harassed each other after being incited to do so by the British. And yet, by the way it is worded, this documentary seems to be biased against the Greeks here, making them seem as oppressors to the Turks on the island and yet if you skip forward to 33:33 up to 35:10 you will see that Turkish Cypriots themselves attest to a time before 1974 when Greek and Turkish Cypriots could live side by side peacefully and harmoniously. To its own merit at least this documentary mentions this fact as well, *albeit in fleet of foot*. On the one hand the Turkish Cypriots were oppressed and harassed by the Greek Cypriots and on the other both people were living harmoniously with one another in bi-communal villages and towns. These two excerpts from this very documentary are in direct contradiction of one another. I am told by Turkish Cypriots that they are finding it easier to talk to me, a Greek Cypriot, than they do with the illegal Turkish immigrants and the Turkish military that are supposedly there, in the north, to protect them from us. I was also told by the Turkish Cypriot girl that spoke to me (whose name I will not mention for her own safety) that Turkish immigrants are illiterate to the extend that they think that you can get from Cyprus to Turkey by bus and that the treatment of Turkish Cypriots by the Turks is atrocious at best. Who was oppressing/harassing whom again? The fact of the matter is that if the British with their divide and conquer politics had not interfered in the relationships of the two communities on the island, Cyprus would probably be united now, without the territorial problem of Turkish occupation and both its peoples continuing to live together harmoniously. It is also worth mentioning that there were many Turkish Cypriots who had properties in the south that also suffered in the exact same way as the Greek Cypriots who had to leave their homes in the north. This goes towards saying that both communities suffered and are still suffering the results of the Turkish invasion that supposedly took place to protect the Turkish Cypriots from the Greek Cypriots. The true intentions of Turkey, given its expansionist tendencies, are probably to get the so called Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus recognised as a sovereign state first and then annex it as part of Turkey itself, thereby serving only the interests of Turkey and not the Turkish Cypriots. This final part would be very easy for Turkey to accomplish given that they already have their troops installed on the northern part of the island. And after that, it wouldn't be farfetched to estimate that probably the rest of Cyprus (the southern part) would also be invaded as well. Enough said.

You forget one major motivating factor Sunni Islam and the drive to force the non Islamic culture to convert or die this “along with the Sunni / Shia infighting “ has been a problem ever since mohammed started Islam in the seventh century. And this had and has nothing to do with the former British Empire despite the problems that arose from that. This has been an issue ever since Islam started during the byzantine empire way before the British empire existed . Greeks have historical ties to Cyprus that go back thousands of years Arabs “before the existence of Islam who invaded much of the Eastern Mediterranean region when the Ottoman turks “ replaced the Byzantine empire do not. Turkey was Anatolia Istanbul was Constantinople and so on

Very informative and interesting documentary! However the narrator went into the same trap like many other reporters, trying to make itout that all the troubles started in 1974! Let me start at the beginning since 1878 when this Ottoman Turkish island was leased to Britain during the Crimean War, Greek Cypriots started a campaign called ENOSIS- meaning uniting Cyprus with Greece. This ideology ''Megalo Idea'' as they called it, was the cause of all future conflicts and fights, first between Greek Cypriots and British (!930-1960) then GC's and Turkish Cypriots.. Once British was out there were 3 years of peaceful Republic of Cyprus. Then EOKA terrorist group lead by Grivas and Nikos Sampson following expulsion of Turkish representatives from the cabinet.-initiated attacks on Turkish community. !963-74 Turkish Cypriots suffered random attacks including total massacre of two villages in 1967. Finally EOKA and Nikos Sampson realising that President Makarios was not keen on ENOSIS, attacked his palace and took control of the power - in effect attacking the Republic of Cyprus existence! Turkey used the 1960 agreement and intervened yes intervened as a Guarantor. (UK, Turkey and Greece were guarantors) to uphold the independence of Cyprus. 2004 Greek Cypriots rejected a very favourable Annan Plan for peace and permanent solution- mainly brainwashed by extremists and the Orthodox Church. As you will see from some of the comments, Greek Cypriots regretted rejecting this plan, as no future plan or aggrment is not going to be so favourable to them. Varosha and Omorfo will not be on the table again!!! Too much greed too much extremism blurs people's minds!!!

No one says anything about the truth on why 1974 happened in Cyprus. Makarios went to America and asked for a loan from the then-American President Richard Nixon, but he was refused. Then he went to Russia and asked President Leonid Brezhnev for a loan and promised that he will give them a base on the island. When Nixon heard about this he let the Greek Junta in Greece collaborate with the head of the EOKA-B Nicos Samson to topple Makarios. According to the Cyprus Constitution, The President of Cyprus will be a Greek Cypriot always elected by the Greek Cypriots and the Vise President will be Turkish Cypriot always elected by the Turkish Cypriots. Of course, Nixon knew that Turkey would interfere as a guarantor power, and they did. Turkey tried to invade the island a few times before during 60"s but was stopped by the American 6th fleet. Because America has been the colonial power during the 20th century they do things to suit their purpose so they allowed Turkey to invade the island under the disguise of saving the Turkish Cypriots. This time the 6th fleet was in the Red Sea but they did stop the Turks after they took a portion of the island by deploying the 6th fleet back in the Cyprus waters. Everybody knows what they did in Iraq and Afghanistan by saying that they had WEAPONS of MASS DESTRUCTION which was a lie that we all found out about it afterwards and because of it few million people died because of it. Whoever is the most powerful country in the world design the fate of others like any other colonial power that we have seen in history. I can only say to both communities that stop fighting each other and realize who the real culprit is and sort your differences out and live in peace together as you did in the past. As Cyprus is called the JEWEL of the Mediterranean you can all be rich from tourism alone and prosper together. Good luck and God Bless, Life is good if you know how to live it.

Cyprus is for Cypriots who are strong and fearless to defend what they believe in against the Politicians, Religious establishments, and those who become very rich at the expense of all the innocent Cypriots whether Greek or Turk after what happened in 1974. Greeks toppled their own President Makarios to unite the island with Greece (ENOSIS) and they gave a chance and a reason for Turkey to come and invade the island to save the Turkish population. Lots of people died on both sides who had nothing to do with what happened but hey great American civilization calls it collateral damage and it is because of their greed that people all over the world suffer every day. Soooo SAD.
