Hi, I'm Richard Siberry, welcome to my channel. Like myself, this channel is, well, I suppose diverse might be a polite way of saying it. It began as a place to show trailers for "Montauk Rocks" a feature documentary I was making back in 2012. Today you can watch the full length film right here on the channel, but as of early 2021, I'm also making content that revolves around my new life, and my new shed/workshop (which is curiously inside an old hay shed!) in the rural west of Ireland. There'll be woodwork, metalwork, fixing and repairs, motorcycles, cooking and fishing, and maybe a few beers thrown in for luck (when I'm not in the workshop, I make beer for a living). Come on in, the channels open.
I wish I got Into striper fishing earlier then I did but since that first tight lines reel peel of that striper I was hooked for light I'm heading to montauk for my first time and will be there as a respectful fisherman I can't wait to see what montauk has in-store for me this fall
I had some special experiences surf fishing montauk in the early 90s. The video is right about it not being an easy place to fish. It is work. The wetsuit thing is crazy. And the locals will yell at you. Once I got hit by some jerk offs plug behind me I never went back.
I have a question I trout fish in the mountains of western North Carolina I have. Chest waders one of my biggest fears is falling in deep water and filling my waders how the hell do you all keep from drowning
Surf belt goes on top of your waders, it helps trap the water above the beltline and keeps your waders from filling up. Otherwise a lot of these guys also run wetsuits
Unfortunately, Montauk is no longer that quaint New England fishing village. All the pretentious Hamptons scumbags have infected it. I grew up on the island and would get out to Montauk several times a year and it was always my favorite place on earth as the crowds used to stop in The Hamptons. My wife and I even honeymooned out there in 93. I moved away in 2000 and didn’t get back out there until 2018 with my daughters. I was not happy with the changes that have taken over my once beloved haven.
Theres so few surfcasters now, a decade ago you wouldn't see a surfboard on a truck AT ALL at the point. Now they've taken over the first section of access rd all the way down to the lighthouse. I've hooked 3 last year and plan to hook a lot more this year as well. As long as there's no swimming and surfing signs these scumbags can get fucked. I don't go looking to hook people, but if they start surfing in front of me and FOLLOW me after I move... They're gonna bleed lol
That is very true and now one of our last strongholds in Maine has a Democrat governor that is destroying the state... Let's hope she gets voted out next elections because she is destroying the fishery
WOW This video is GREAT ! Ilove catching stripers here on the west coast I have caught several in the 40 lb class and one 50lbs 10 ounces and have seen bigger ! the catch is these are residentual river fish and are here all year in different places on the river so they are cagy . I had one hit a 4lb shad once and my buddy landed it 44lbs we took pics and let it go we have not kept a cow striper since my 50 lbder and I never will... Tight lines all !
The slot size is smaller which is great but I think the quantity per person should be allocated. 1 allowable keeper per season for example. I preach catch and release to sustain our recreational fishery for the generations to come. Obviously that'll never happen until it's too late and we don't have a recreational striper fishery anymore.
To many people worry about letting go of secrets. Let it go grow the fishing as well as the fishery and the sport . The more young people the better!!!. Just release more and build new memories. Fish on !!!
Lamiglass gsb and lamiglass super surf 2 g pro are the famous rods of Montauk surf fisherman I see a lot of custom builds and old lamiglass also I use a gsb 10 ft M 1-5 oz it’s the best rod to use out there that and the super surf 2 g pro you could get one for 500 bucks just make sure it can throw at least 5 oz in lure weight and as for reels Penn battle 3 dx 5000 or a Penn slammer the salt x is a great reel under 300
@@ALSAIBANI No problem I suggest you spend more on the rod try to keep it 500 and under no more then 550 and spend less on the reel I suggest you could do a lamiglass gsb or super surf and as few a real the penn battle and the Diawa gb or saltist if you wanna keep it under 300 penn slammer is great and the tsunami salt x is an excellent real. I like it better then most of the expensive reels try to keep your whole set up under 1 k my go to set up is a medium 10 foot lamiglass GSB and when I started, I had a pen battle 3 DX and it last me a long time now I upgraded to a salt x and I have a super surf 10 foot medium heavy lure waight 1-5 oz with a Penn slammer please just don’t be one of those guys who gets $100 rod with a $800 real that’s all lol
@@ALSAIBANI and also if you get a two piece rod, make sure to 7030 split do not get a 50-50 and if you wanna get a ride under $400 the St. Croix seage is actually really nice get that in the medium and the lamiglass carbon surf is a nice rod to they are like 300 bucks
On the West coast these introduced creatures devour the heck out of our native salmonids (salmon/steelhead) but they are great sport to catch in the surf. We used to catch 30 pounders in Northern California. We have alot of lore here also. Myself I like a nice early season 8 pounder that has been eating sand crabs. You butterrfly them open and smoke them for an hour with applewood on the side of a Weber. No fillet and no waste. They taste like crab. The larger later season fish stuff themselves on anchovies and are not as tasty. They are oily. I release all large stripers. If you beach a striper here it creates a crazy ass scene. Huge crowds gather around you and wonder how there could even be such a fish in the surf. There are beach goer people that come up and verbally abuse and attack you for catching and releasing a striper on the beach. They start crying or acting nuts. It's a different kind of war here in CA. These people here don't get sportfishing at all. Fishing seems to have become some kind of war. Peace.
Money ruins every beautiful little Hamlet. I've seen it time and again, the wealthy buy into a quaint little town to enjoy the thrill of low class living, only to turn it into the place they were getting away from.
You can catch beautiful cows of south beach Staten Island if you know how to chase strippers !!! And easy no Hampton knucklehead wannabe surfcasters!!!
