This channel is all about the film industry and the video production process. Hey, I am Alex! I have spent the last 2 years working in L.A. on all sorts of commercials, music videos, and films. I have been fortunate enough to have been able to be on shoots for MasterClass, Airbnb, Wistia, Wag, SalesForce, StitchFix, Tophatter, Calm, Sendgrid, Amazon Alexa, Harley Davidson, Kidzbop. That was fun: Fifth Harmony, Britney Snow, and Boogie. I was able to work in various positions like a Production Assistant, 2nd Assistant Camera, PA AD, 2nd Assistant Director, 1st Assitant Director, Producer, Director of Photography, and Director. There were a lot of things I did not know, even out of film school, so I am just trying to shed light on what I have learned. Hit that subscribe button, so we can start growing this community!
I’ve got the same laptop and having to render the files constantly for every little change is 🗑️.. I don’t know why it’s so damn slow. I’ve looked at everything
Hi there! I found this video very helpful, great job. In a sense if we compare the film industry with another industry namely IT/Tech Companies, a Producer is similar to a Project Manager, yes?
@@alexbulloch1491 Cool! Thanks for the respond. So- if I may follow up through the same context. If a producer were to attend a workshop or class for project manager, some skill may in one way or another relate? Or may even be usable in film / video industry?
What is all the details of a movie as in (what iam looking for is)the type of sound the movie adds to a character like batman has a mysterious sound when ever he shows up in a scene .could someone tell me what's the sound in a movie that changes the mood and where I can find those sounds ??
Good video. What is the best resource/website for finding out salaries for the various positions in the film industry which you laid out in this video?
Sir, for Big Hollywood blockbuster movie Do people have to give audition or just sign up a contract for a role. If people have to sign contract then how to get the contract???
You just need to get started is all! It's tough to just jump straight into a 2nd AD role without experience. No formal education is really required. No school or anything. Just get on productions starting as a PA, and work hard to reach better places. I was on a week long production once where I started as a PA, and by the end they made me a second AD. You just need to build your network in production work hard and keep staying hungry for more.
Ya, i would say it's within the art department. Art department can be expanded into set design, prop production, set production, construction, etc. What needs to be built to make our scene look the way we need it? I think that's the bridge right there.
Do you think ther'es any way to fix it? I got mine a few years back and I absolutely hate it. I sent it to Dell to be fixed but Premiere can't run at all on this laptop.
I have the exact same machine, same specs and running Premier Pro 2020 but my XPS sometimes has delay or gets chopping when running thru frames in the timeline even at 1/4 rez. I set My GTX card to run on Premier instead of auto select. Any suggestions?
How did you get used to having to hit 1&2 or -&+ for zooming in and out of your timeline? I’m so used to just pinching to zoom in and out, changing to my dell xps for editing has been a bit annoying because of this
Hey! I never edit without rendering first. In my experience with past computers i get a lot of frame skip even with it rendered. I was just showing it with how I edit. However, I will keep that in mind for future videos.
I love the detailed usage. After watching this video i've settled on getting the dell xps for my channel. takes to long to edit videos with my current setup.
Hello..a great video.. im confused between buying either xps i9 9 gen with oled screen or alienware area m51 i9.. Im a photo and video editor..i wont buy either for games..only for hard core work... What do you advice me ?..and for the xps i9 alot of youtubers complain about the xps i9 for heat issues and freezes alot and advising to go with xps i7..so what do you think bro ?? Thank you
Yes, I will not lie. After having it a few months it does get warm if you don't have a fan. However, a fan underneath it while video editing makes it run like a dream. So fast and powerful. I have never had problems with it freezing. Honestly, any computer with a good graphics card, 4 or 8 g of video graphics, solid state, and an i9 is pretty beast.
@@alexbulloch1491 well the supplier send me a msg..tellong me that he only has 1 new peice in stock which : I9 9 gen.. with 32 gb ram.. and rtx 1650 4 gb.. and screen is 4k touch.. and its pretty expensive .. coz the i9... and the spec with i7 but less cheap.. see i sold my 2011 imac i7 ..thats why i dont see buying an i7 again is a good idea.. therfore..im now between buying th dell xps i9 or macbook pro 16 with i9 or asus zenbook duo i9.. the zenbook has i9 32 gb and rtx 2060 6 gb with 2 4k screens.. so what do you think and advice ?
@@rashedmoon4805 you can't really go wrong with computers these days. I would go with the best priced option that gives you 32 gigs of RAM, at least 4 gig of video ram, has a graphics card, and a good colored screen. Don't worry so much to if it's an i9 or i7. If they have the above. It will be strong.
@@alexbulloch1491 so no worries from dell xps i9 as long as i will use the laptop pad cooling with it ..by the way.. i wont undervolt the i9 proccesor xps or tweet it.. so is it ok ? Or should i undervolt ?
Help Post: Hey bro, really loved your content..btw ive something to ask which is im planning to buy a dell xps 15 but the dell with full specs are super expensive. so what if i buy the Dell XPS 15 Laptop -Core i7 2.2GHz 8GB 1TB+128GB 4GB graphics 15.6inch Silver and then i will update my ram and ssd later? what you think is it possible? btw ive sold my car to buy this laptop :) and one more question: is 8gb ram is enough for premier pro editing in 1080p? i usually dont edit in 4k/
From what I have seen and heard you can update the cards inside. I haven't done the research to know which cards are good. However, you can update them. You should be just fine editing 1080p video on that laptop. Good luck and sorry for the very late response.
Good video Broh! But it won’t skip frames when it’s rendered (timeline on green). Delete your rendered files and when it’s yellow or red try it again. For reviews delete or disable all effects if you have proxies disable them as well, the press play and check out how many frames have dropped.
Hey! I don't usually edit without rendering anyways and my past experience with older laptops have given me a lot of skipped frames even when rendered. I will keep this in mind for my next videos to keep it more on point. Thanks for the note and the comment.
The battery while video editing will probably last 2 plus hours, and that's under heavy editing. Any other applications, you will get a couple hours of battery. 4-7 hours depending on the usage.
In my opinion, any laptop while video editing will have to work a little harder than a desktop. So, it will get warm, however, with a good fan it will run like a dream. Thanks for watching!
This model is $2,800 on Dell's site, but definitely not recommended as the Core i9 throttles a ton in that chassis. You're better off getting the Core i7-8750H for $2,500, if you can't wait a week for the new Dell XPS 15 refresh to come out. Or--because you can upgrade it--get the lower-end model and buy the extra RAM, SSD and WiFi card and upgrade yourself. Will save you a lot of money. But again, don't buy this laptop. The Dell XPS 15 7590 will be released this month.
@@alexbulloch1491 Indeed. I purchased this when it first came out but had some ghosting with the keyboard, so returned it and bought a MacBook Pro. Lol. Anyways, nice work on the video, sir. Awesome quality. Keep cranking them out and you'll be up there with the "big guys" within a year.
Model number of the laptop please. I will appreciate if I know the model number which your using right now ... thinking to buy a laptop today which can edit 4k
