Brilliant, and nice to see the Garriboldi chip shop under the bridges, brings back fond memmories of my day's walking through the town on my way to Oken school on the Myton Rd in the sixtys. No car school run's those day's.
wonderful, thank you for sharing Ken, Chesterton village and church was also a very pleasant walk as well, used to be around those haunts frequently in the mid 90's with my mum and our dog Peggy
Thank you, this brings back fond memories 😃of a school trip on the Ferry across the Humber when I was about 7yrs old, which would be 1952. I don't recall the name of the vessel. Does anyone know if it is the same class of vessel as the Waverly?
Ken, this is wonderful, filmed the year I was born. Our family lived near Leamington station. My Mum would take me there to watch the steam trains. We moved to RAF Gaydon in 1962 and visited Leamington all the time.
I did this crossing on the Tatershall in 1974 as a teenager. Fifteen years later, I was having a drink on her on the River Thames completely unaware that it was the same vessel. Thanks so much for posting this footage.
This is wonderful and brings back so many happy memories of visiting my Grandma & Grandad in Hull and we'd sometimes have a day out in Cleethorpes taking the Humber ferry. The 'voyage' was always the highlight of the day for me and the footage gave me such warm feelings. Thank you. I am slowly uploading my Grandad's cine films to YT and many of them are around Hull & the Humber and also feature the ferries.
I disagree with the uploader.I was working in Leamington Spa last month and thought it was a wonderful place. So many impressive Georgian buildings(i think they're Georgian,I'm by no means an expert)to admire,it almost felt like being in a time capsule particularly with Cov just up the road. Maybe its not as great as the 60's🤷♂ but it's still looks a much better place to live than the majority of towns and cities in the UK.
Please don't be sad to see the old quality of footage it is the rarest and on those ancient days it was soooooo beautifully entertaining which is still alive even now . Thanks many many just make me jump back into the history of innocence.
Man, the hustle and bustle of the parade is something else. Do you know why it was decided that the parade should be closed to road traffic ? Seems so much quieter now
the ugly over development and out of town centre retail parks and general parking catastrophe and general incompetence of the councils and authorities has destroyed the town economically, i think all those businesses paying all those rates and taxes have been betrayed. The town is sterile now, busy is viewed as bad. Maybe we just don't realise what we had until it is gone and everything just looks so much more beautiful back then, even the cars all look superb.
I was born in Warnford General on Nov 7th 1952 @ least 10 weeks premature and not expected to survive the night, yet, due to the care and diligence of the staff, here I am still 68 years later.
Isn't this the 8th National Standard Rally, organised by the Standard Register on 20th May 1967! Thanks for posting, I have not seen a filmof the event before. I would be very grateful to have a better copy for the Club Archives if that's possible somehow? Several of these cars still exist!
Lovely bit of Leamington Spa nostalgia. I worked for Pickfords as a holiday job while at college a few times. Fairly useless at moving furniture but I was better at reading maps than all of the drivers! The film shows some shocking parking in town !! Happy Days....
I can remember cycling with some of my family from Grimsby to New Holland than going on the ferry to Hull and continued to cycle through Hull to the William Wilberforce museum and onwards to Spurn Point one summer when I was about 9 yrs old (now 63 yrs old). I think the ferries were Tattershall Castle and Lincoln Castle.
I had to use the bus to get back to Bishops Tachbrook from Coventry, so arrived at Pool Meadow feeling overwhelmed and lost, but couldn't believe it, there was a bus in Coventry with 'Bishops Tachbrook' as the destination, i was sure it was going to be at least 2 buses, lots of wating around and walking around to the relevant stops, but there it was and it was a double decker!
Many thanks for this posting. I spent the first 23 years of my life in Leamington Spa, up until 1976 when I moved to The Netherlands. Warm memories and lot of nostalgia.
