On the night Elton won his first Oscar back in 1995 (for Can You Feel the Love Tonight from The Lion King), they showed an interview with Barbara Walters. Elton started playing Your Song for Barbara, but then he stopped right after singing the line "don't have much money, but boy if I did, I'd buy a big house where we both could live" and he was telling Barbara it was so hard to think back to when he first did that song, about 1969/1970. When he first recorded that song, which would become his first big hit and put him on the road to stardom, he was still basically just Reg Dwight, he wasn't rich, he wasn't famous at the time, he was still broke. The idea of being able to buy a house seemed impossible to him at the time, it was beyond his wildest dreams that someday he would own several houses all over the world!
