What I ran into was, the people doing the judging had very little knowledge about unrestored cars. Most were unwilling to look under the cars and when they did they skipped over the most important things. Our car was 100% unrestored, plus it had never been outdoors over night and had been in a heated and AC garage every day of it's life, it never set on it's original tires. I spent decades detailing the car and it was rarely driven or shown to anyone in person, only in photos. They thought most of the items on the car had been replaced or redone. So most judges have no business doing any judging on true top flight unrestored cars. So the way I fixed it was to never take our cars to any car shows, it's no big deal, they don't know what there looking at anyway.
Good for you , I also live in Indiana but drive a TR6. Totally understand your love for your car great that you can work on it because hard to find mechanics now who even have heard of MG or Triumph. When I go to parts store they ask is the part for a motorcycle?
I had the same year MGB for 30 years. Amazing car. Took a lot of super long road trips people might have thought would be dangerous in a car like that. She was supposed to break down all the time, but didn't. Easy to work on too. The one problem I had was a blown tire. I had to buy two bigger tires because the only tire available in Raton, NM at that moment was such a different size. So that was a funny jacked up MG type experience until I could afford to buy 4 of the correct size. Enjoy Sunny!!

I have a 1979 MGB Roadster (American version) with the UGLY black rubber bumpers. She's a barn-find and I bought her without a clear vision of what I wanted to do. I still don't know whether to buy the English bumpers and trim or to go Resto-Mod and put either a Tesla drive-train in or a Chevy LS. I keep waiting for inspiration.
What a wonderful story! Liz and Sunny are such a great match. As the long time owner of a 1991 Miata, I loved seeing how much pure joy owning and driving Sunny brings to Liz. Kudos to all involved!

I was the seller for this car (for a friend) and we are both so thrilled that Liz ended up with "Sunny"! With a couple days left in the bidding she was asking questions and describing the car as "Sunny" and I hoped she would end up as the new owner. The previous owner and I had discussed making some cosmetic upgrades but decided not to, and the fact that Liz feels the same is just great. Thanks for sharing her story! Jake
