Jedi Fallen Order handled difficulty adjustments well in a souls-like, imo. the lack of a pause button is actually shameful though. not everyone can no-life a game, some of us have real life concerns and can't wait to find a safe spot to camp out in.
is bad at games, says its okay and fun good players point out using help is a sign of being bad at games gets actually mad at ppl pointing out the reality he claims to enjoy
Citizen Sleeper mentioned! Just saw this after watching your video about being bad at video games (something I am very familiar with LOL) Makes me want to replay and listen to music more. Especially how the mid-game is more of a rhythm than a difficulty check, something akin to finding your ground even in an uncaring world because the people care. Nice vid!
Hi all! I'm planning a 100 Subscriber mini-special for when i reach the milestone! If any of you have any questions about me, my videos, my writing, or my music, I'd love to answer them in that video! LEave them here or in my recent community post! Cheers, Ash.

I just don't understand why Immersive Sims don't sell. This is, imho, by far the most interesting game genre in existence. These games are usually interesting, intricate, insanely replayable... why don't people buy them, but flock bu the hundred of millions toward CoD or other brainless shit? As for the subject of the video, yeah, it hurts. I'm genuinely angry that Arkane Austin got shuttered. As I'm devastated Eidos Montreal got the guillotine too. Shit is really, really bad right now. Especially because everything bad with the games these studios made can be traces back to stupid decisions by the executives at the publisher level. Mankind Divided was gutted by Squenix in the hope of hooking player for a sequel, all the while fucking up the marketing and monetization. Redfall is a game Arkane didn't want to make, it was mandated by Zenimax. The executives should get the axe, not the developer. And yeah, it's really unfair for the devs of Tango Gameworks who basically deliveres the most successful XBOX game of 2023, only to get gutted for economic reasons.
i have loved dishonored, it's some of the best story telling and i do like the gameplay, the stealth is not that great, but it passes the stealth meter enough that it's still considered goodish.. i have prey the game but i have yet to play it, it's just in my steam library. i'm mostly a player of habit, i tend to go back to the games that can be modded to hell and back more than i play anything else, but i did enjoy the dishonored games i like that series in how the story changes i liked the diffrent perspectives within the same story going parallel. so i'm more stuck playing bethesda titles such as FO4 and skyrim most of the time because i just love that gameplay and what new changes and potential for stories that could be made within that engine.
i never view it as the end, because to me it just means that studio gets shut down temporarily, because they now have new owners who will more than likely hire these same skilled people. honestly right now i'm hoping Ubisoft shutters down and sells their IP to someone more competent than them.
For me i enjoy getting good at video games from the sense of accomplishment i get from learning a new skill even if that skill doesn't seem very useful. But even so I prefer getting good at games I enjoy playing in fact if I'm not enjoying the game too much I may not even beat it. So I go for a balanced approach when it comes to getting good at games and having fun with games.
i think you guys are looking at this wrong, it's not the end, it's just something that's changing hands in ownership, these IP's will eventually come back, it will just be under new management and they will likely hire these people back. so what i see right now with this news is only temporary.
I'm gonna disagree with the dark souls example. Objectively speaking, these are mediocre games at best. The challenge genuinely comes from the bad camera, bad controls, poor optimization (except ds2), dumb technical limitations like 60fps lock, unbalanced enemies at times, etc. Its important to have a good technical polish first and foremost in action/combat oriented games, so you can minimize player frustration, like distance, doom eternal, etc. do. I would go as far to say these games pretend to respect the player. If they actually respected the player, they'd avoid all these mistakes I mentioned, like actually hard but fair games do. And they waste player time by obfuscating basic information. If you want a genuinely easy to pickup but hard to master game, go play distance and try the community tracks, hidden campaign, etc. They will truly challenge you. Doom eternal is easy to pickup but hard to master. Geometry dash is the same. All these games I mentioned avoid using fromsoft's crap approach to difficulty they use with ER and dark souls series. Because if doom eternal can literally tell you how to kill every enemy and still remain hard, fromsoft has no excuse hiding basic mechanics like a poise/stance meter, no buff duration meter, not explaining its mechanics like jump dodge in ER or powerstance/animation cancel/stance breaks in ds2, etc. Also, unlike doom eternal, none of the souls games except ds2 offer hard mode/challenge runs, etc. Anything to challenge you once you master their combat. What kind of hard game does that? This is from someone who's beaten ds2 and ds3 many, many times with all sorts of gameplay overhauls to make these games harder. I've beaten ER twice including maleina both times without summons. I'm simply tired of fromsoft getting a pass for producing mediocre games and getting praised as if they made some masterpiece, which they didn't.
You make some interesting points, i’ve been thinking about dedicating a full video to the Souls games, i might do a wee section where i address some criticisms like these
@@UrVirtualSister You're gonna need more than a wee section to address my points. And these are points no youtuber covers. If you have a discord channel, we can discuss these points first so your video will have more balanced criticism.
I was the exact opposite. I'm the only one in my household who plays competitively in games! I'm not the best, but I always games like fighting games, or games like Doom Eternal as you said in Nightmare mode. Cheers!
Well put thing. I myself play a lot of games because, as a kid, I was too poor to have console or pc, and now due to mental and health issues, I play too much games. For the things like pause menu in souls, and so on - I totally get it. Not sure how it could be implemented in most games, but perhaps separate build or mod/addon for disabled players with extra settings? But that are "wasted resources" for most, especially, AAA companies I guess. Other than that, I just am bad at games, and have very "safe" or slow tendencies in strategy games, so fast paced RTS tittles are no-go for me. And I'm not capable to outsmart computer player who have their resources set to 200% and get it called "hard" or "challenging". That's just cheating. Write better AI! haha Yeah, but thanks for the video. I think I needed it.
Souls games have to get a proper camera, proper optimization (which ds2 has), good controls, good control scheme, etc. These aren't wasted resources. Games like doom eternal, geometry dash, distance, etc. all feature pause menu's. Games like NMS have a completely separate online and offline mode, which souls games can incorporate. I mean these things aren't that hard.
I remember as a kid that I asked to my aunt help when I'm on a certain level, she was like my protector, but then I go through those levels and I ask to myself "Is that all?", it's crazy that feeling.
For me, I love TF2, but I absolutely hate getting demolished by players with over 4000 hours, meanwhile I only have 200 hours. I would absolutely love it if TF2 had skill-based matchmaking or even servers specifically designed for players with under 500 hours in the game just so I'd have a much smoother chance to learn instead of getting instantly headshot by a sniper with 4k hours half-way across the map
i played portal 1 and 2 with a walkthhrough video in another window as being a puzzle game, there would be parts of the levels that I wouldn't have any clue on what to do with, or areas that I didn't notice, so having the walkthrough videos as a refrence made it more fun for me as it meant I didn't have to spend an hour on 1 level repeating it over and over.
as someone whos disabled and beat elden ring. you can do it but its like you said nothing wrong with getting help. i find summons and doing planing and math made it better I cleared all content besides Melania thats about it I got an ending and i proud of getting through it.
The problem with elden ring is it wastes player time. Why does fromsoft STILL have a crap camera? Crap controls? etc.? Why not give us a stance meter so we can stop guessing the stance of an enemy? They can even give players the option to disable it, but that option should be there. If doom eternal can literally tell you how to beat each and every enemy in the game, what's fromsoft's excuse for hiding basic information to generate difficulty? Infact, with maleina, fromsoft literally cheats to create difficulty. I've beaten ER twice. Its not a good game. I'd much rather play actually hard but fair games like doom eternal or distance. Heck even outward does difficulty much better than fromsoft.
i hear the "half life with less weapons" stuff a lot of the time, and i think it's a pretty valid point. the tau cannon was deleted very far into development, there even being unused voice lines for it. the S.L.A.M. is a cool weapon, but it wouldn't really work in single player, there would also probably be a limited number of places where you could use it as a most of the time you are in open areas (i also don't know how you would acquire it, maybe from a rebel??) also, alternative name for sandtraps: highway 17 but we can no longer call it highway 17 beacuse you are no longer driving a car (surface tension/forget about freeman moment)
Hey man! Found this video while browsing around! Great stuff! I too am a big Arkane fan, in case the username didn’t give that away! 😅 I talk a lot about Arkane and their games on my channel! We’ve got a small but burgeoning community, and if you’re ever interested, you’re always welcome! 😇🙌🏻
Death loop being correlated to dishonored was in my opinion pretty obvious, first off the weapons from death loop mimick those of dishonored to varying degrees, the guns used in the final cutscene were "relics from a past, gas powered and gear action". In death loop whenever you hack an antenna to create a "disturbance" you at times get the same drunken sailor boat songs u got in dishonered 1 and 2 and not to mention we hear that song once more at the very last seconds of the final cutscene, the horizon project (not aeon) was tasked to break through the barrier and enter an "unknown void" which is a direct reference as well, and once you Play death of the outsider the ending (which I won't spoil) explains A LOT of the ending of death loop just a lil fyi 👍
