I stayed on Karon beach in 1989, I thought this is the most blue and beautiful ocean I have ever seen. These pictures are exactly like my memory. In my opinion the 2004 Tsunami destroyed the reef around Phuket and the ocean has never looked so blue and beautiful as it did in the past. Also toured around the island by motorbike, not easy with some dirt and gravel roads! (it's highways now). Thanks for the nice walk down memory beach!
Does anyone remember the "Lazy bar"? The owner used to sleep in a hammock. You had to wake him up to get your beer and then ge went to sleep again. Such a gem it was. And only these little sheds from the Krabi hotel and the rest was palm trees.

How time flies. This is 30 years ago. I visited Thailand (Patong) for the first time as recently as 2009. But even that is getting to be a long time ago...
I am on Phi Phi right now. I was lucky to have first visited here in January 1990. It's still beautiful but not the paradise it was. A lot of that blame can be put on the 2004 Tsunami where 98% of the palms were wiped out and the consequent rebuilding planning.
Thank you Lars.I need to cry.It was paradise.I was to late.I stay in phi phi first time in 2002 when there still was a little bit left of the good vibes.I think me and my friend was one of the last tourists that walk inside the Viking cave,and Maya bay was still paradise.Just a few longtails and some speedboats from Phuket,but not so many people.In 2016 we had problems to see the beach at all because of boats ferries and people, I've stay at phi phi almost every year after to go snorkling and kayaking.After 2008 i think they build to much luxury hotels ,and nobody needs Mcdonalds and Burgerking here, destroy the charm in the center of the island, but the nature around is still there.This is a scary example of that Money rules.🥲
