Inspired by world tours of Mama, I Want to Sing in Europe, the Caribbean, Japan, and the United States, Vy Higginsen created the Mama Foundation for the Arts to help re-establish Harlem as an artistic and cultural centerpiece of the world.
Mama's mission is to present, preserve, and promote gospel, jazz, and the R&B arts for current and future generations.
Wow. Lifelong Madonna fan here. How have i never seen this and it just today popped up on my feed?! Thanks for sharing and congrats to your group on an experience they'll always remember!
An unforgettable moment in my life - seeing this musical. Seeing Doris play her own mother. I am making it a central scene in the novel I’m writing about race and class in the time I came of age in upstate NY - 1967-1988.
I saw this musical in the spring of 1985 on a class trip to New York City, I managed to get an autograph from Desiree Coleman who played Doris and it was just a wonderful moment in time for my 9-year-old self. Great times!!!
I share your enthusiasm I went when I was much younger a pre-teen I saw mama I want sing too‼️🙏🏽🤩The theater is now renamed El TEATRO AT EL MUSEO DEL BARRIO NEW YORK, NY‼️ I just saw the 40th anniversary performance‼️ It was still so amazing‼️😍 I still have my old program signed by the whole cast from 1985‼️❤️🔥🗣🎙🎶🎵
I don’t know if anyone seen I but Madonna was getting tired near the end ... her breaths is flushed would have taken a deeper breath... dam she did good
I never saw this play when it came out back in the day but my cousin did and she would always go around the house trying to sing the title song...she sounded horrible. Smh lol
You are the GREATEST teacher ever and the most wonderful students. I wish you all success in all you do. EXCELLENCE IS THE ANSWER. Turn OFF the fools on the NEWS and remember this lesson forever. I will. God Bless!
The 60 Minutes piece was good. I hope you guys get more attention for your shows. I've heard of another group called the "Young At Heart" band or group. They also are singers and I saw them on Frontline (PBS.) Both these groups perform very well.
