Great topic! My favorite point was volume as it relates to value. I personally love a brief attention grab or personality showcase piece in my attire. For me it’s something discrete and non offensive like a unique pop of color in my glasses the shape of the frames
Great topic and very well addressed! I totally agree with everything you said…even though I proudly carry my LV Bag. 😊 Love you both and your commitment to bring relevant information to all of us.
Great content. As Darren mentioned that you want to learn from your past..are there any tips to not get stuck there or any other phase? What is an estimate for each time period or how will you know when it's time to move?
Thanks so much for this great question. Yes, the goal is not to pack a suitcase when you look back at the past but to pack a magnifying glass and tool bag. You want to go into the past, asking simple questions that don't get you attached emotionally to feelings like regret, disappointment, or failure for long periods. It's okay to feel these feelings when they happen, but you must turn these into lessons by asking questions that extract valuable information and discard useless emotions. Emotions are only good for raising awareness of a problem that needs to be solved, a behavior that needs to be developed, or a lesson that needs to be learned, but sticking in them too long does not raise awareness; instead, it breeds a destructive sympathy for oneself known as pity. Your emotions cannot be full-time employees of your psyche. They must be consultants who give a specific scope of work to produce facts and discoveries in your brain to take control and lead to executing the work. Once you've extracted the needed information, you MUST discard those emotions and not allow yourself to return or think they are helpful after they have performed their duties. Some questions you can ask are... What can I learn from this? What am I noticing in me that allowed me to make this decision? What strength do I need to challenge to come out better on the other side? What boundaries do I need to set to avoid ending up here again? Do I need to solicit help from my community to work through this? What information must I add to my radar to watch out for the factors that led to this learning lesson? What methods or metrics will I use to track my improvement in distancing myself from this type of decision-making? How will I celebrate my victory over this? What will I title this chapter of my life when I have set myself free and learned from the past? Etc... Does this answer your question?
Thank you Vergis for continuing to give credit to the Mike Ferry organization for your topics. We both know how much impact our coaches have had on our mindset and ultimately our success.
Very interesting question and podcast excerpt. I would be interested in seeing the entire segment to see the context in which he made that statement. I would hope that Lebron would not just be striving for greatest because of points on the board. Hopefully it would be for his legacy that far surpasses being inducted into the basketball hall or fame or being in the top 3 of all time but more lasting would be how his grandkids would view him.
Hi Ms. Lewis, thanks for watching! From what I’ve observed over the years, Lebron seems to want to strive for greatness in all aspects of his life including basketball and family. You can tell he definitely aspires to leave a legacy for his kids. He definitely appears to be a family man but knows his pursuits have come at the cost of less family time, etc.
I agree with your simple description Vergis. Overdressed is always better than underdressed. There is a term “dressy casual”. If you don’t know what that means…then you are probably underdressed. Always dress the way you want to be addressed! I love it!
In short, I’d always hoped individuality would be acceptable when conducting business. Not so much dressing unprofessional but more so having a professional sense of style outside of just suits of black, glue, grey or brown variants. I’ve come to appreciate distinction that sets me apart be it attire, value offered or services but ultimately bypassing the standard simply makes it easy to lose business over a personal preference
In my opinion…it is always better to be overdressed …no matter your body of work record. You never get a second chance to make a first impression. It’s always “showtime”.
Thanks for covering this topic. Conversing during the workday can monopolize the entire day. It can especially make it challenging when stakeholders don't assess their tones on an ongoing basis with professional intentionality. Yes, they may be direct with their critique, but did it "destroy" the person or leave them renewed and challenged to do better? I especially am taking away Darren's point of no matter how" turbulent the flight might have been" to watch my response.
You're right Ms. Lewis. It's always important to first understand then be understood. We need to be cognizant to be sensitive to how we say things in addition to what we say. Thanks for your comment!
Great topic…should be continued next week. Something I heard many years ago… EGO stands for Eliminating Growth Opportunity. Hits the nail on the head!!! Thank you both.
Interesting topic. Yes I do agree that some managers will hold on to low performing personnel to keep that position in that budget line. But them not wanting to let go or go through the pain of the interview process can reak havoc in other parts of the team. Either the team loses great workers because they leave because they are tired of carrying their load and the load of other low performers on the team or the high performers scale back. Yes, very interesting.
Good afternoon, everyone who's in business or starting a business should listen to several of Darren and Vergis podcasts before they get started very good information grate job
Interesting topic and oftentimes I have plateaued in areas of my life. Currently I am changing my behavior but don't know if it would be defined in terms of a quantum change. I am doing less for people and focusing more on me and wholeheartedly protecting my peace in my personal, spiritual, and work life. I'm concentrating on being a long-distance runner than a sprinter (in a figurative sense).
Thanks for sharing your story Ms. Lewis. Being a long distance runner vs. a sprinter is the start of taking the quantum leap. As Eleanor Roosevelt said, "Do at least one thing that scares you every day." Be blessed.
Thanks so much for this episode! My greatest strength is empathy but it has often been my greatest weakness because very often I care more about the person than they may care about themselves. The Lord has been leading me in how to set boundaries to protect myself and not enable others. Once again, great topic!
Thanks for landing the plan😂… information that one needs to be careful even if you’re intentions are good, one strengthen could make others weak or insecure, if not done with wisdom… I liked this session
Very good points! "Win the day" speaks loudest to me because I tend to spend too much time overthinking/reflecting on yesterday than focusing on the day at hand.
