When sewing a trouser with an elastic waistband..you use ur hip measurement for ur waist. So the length of the waistband should be your hip measurement..that is if ur hip is 42 the length of waistband should be 42. The width I usually use 2 or 2.5. That's completely dependent on you. Length 12, width 7 or 8
