You should find my video on stacking a 108” manhole. Used an 870G excavator, that was a big ordeal to get the rigging I needed. It is amazing how the office people don’t know load charts 📈 or how they work.
@@TheLeverMonkey ha ha yeah it always cracked me up when on a job site and the safety guy is going over every detail of my lift as an excavator is sideways hogging a big precast piece into a hole lol I’ll check out the video.
What you see is 17% moisture. And getting 93 on compaction. Only need 90. This is the one time the rules don’t apply. Every time I cut a test pad I can’t believe what I see.
Yo local 12 truck crane here. I’ll be checking out your stuff. Hope all is well. Slow year due to the election. Our contract is up this coming June. Should be fun.
We don't use shoring or shields unless we have to. Our rules allow us not to have to use them. A full soil inspection is done before dining. It is faster and cheaper to dig this way. I have never had a cave-in in 30 years of digging here.
I was a pipe layer for 18 yrs, A or the loader operator for the main line operator have certain duties to fulfill. Levery Monkeys job is to dig as much footage per day & not have to worry about if this or that is in his way. I completely agree with you Lever Monkey
I got my asvab test date for this November after waiting and casual studying for about a month since my application. Really looking forward to a new career. Have a lot of buddies I’ve met through my path in life, a lot of them are with local 3 and speak very highly. When I get the call for school, I’ll comment again
Well we have over 500 employees. Not sure how many crews. And a field of buckets to choose from. Some times we get equipment from another area that is just bad and that bucket was one of them. Haven’t seen that bucket since that job.
Oh wow, Well I hope you are in a safe place and everything stays in one piece for you. I have been on jobs where I have to fill sand bags for days before even starting the job. Back in 1997 I worked a sandbagging station for 2 weeks while a storm was raging on for 12 strait days. Was waiting for leveys to break in Nor. Cal. worked 7 -12s for a month. Nice pay but was glad when it was over.
My husband is a blaster painter. He comes home like that every single day. We go through so many debit/credit cards. His pockets are filled too. Even the pockets he doesn’t use.
With the zero silica standards + our contract agreement says " if the machine was equipped with ac it has to work " call the mechanic and tell them to fix that man or another brother engineer will end up in it breathing in that dust all day
@@TheLeverMonkey yea I wish I could close up the cab but I wanna be able to hear and see my bottom guy down in the box I don't even listen to the radio lol but u know how it is
I'll run with the front window open when doing certain pipe work or locating utilities but other than that I'm sealed right up ! My cab is way too clean to let that dust all over everything and into my lungs !!! At a bare minimum a water wagon and laborer on the hose to knock the dust down . I have noticed that the ac won't keep up on a lot of minis but especially the Takeuchi ....they sell cling in window shades on Amazon that work amazing and that helps a lot , plus at the end of the day they come right off and go with you to the next machine
Currently I’m a union carpenter working on a solar field, 6 months in and I’ve destroyed my back and shoulder and I got into carpentry because I wanted too do wood framing but that work is extremely scarce where I’m from and after working with the operators driving piles it made me want to switch to operators, and II’m only 19 and I was wondering if I where to get a application would the operator union call my union to get me in trouble or do I have the right too. maybe a dumb question but I don’t have anybody to ask these questions and I don’t want to ruin what I have currently
At your age, it really doesn't matter. You are not vested in the carpenters union and are still young enough to go to the apprenticeship in the Operators. No one will really care. Just do what you think is best for you. But bailing on the operators' union will make it very hard to get back in later if you want to. So if you join the operators stick with it. As for your back and shoulder, I have already had back surgery and my hands and shoulders are in bad shape as well. Heavy equipment, ironworkers even electricians are prone to these problems. My hands are my biggest problem. I have arthritis pretty bad to the point that I have issues holding onto things some days. I live on Motron and I am turning 50 in November. Whatever your choice go into it full force and take every bit of it as this is what you are going to do the rest of your life. Strive to be the best, listen, and learn from the older guys. Learn from the dumb guys as well don't do what they do and stay away from them.
They Usually set classes on what is in demand or will be in demand in the near future. Congrats on getting in. Pay close attention in grade setting as it is used in all aspects of equipment operating.
21yrs old, I applied back in may of 2023. Passed my aptitude test. Just hoping to get an interview sometime soon. I have been in touch with the hall and was told they just finished interviewing applicants from 21-22. Have an osha 30, CDL, couple other certs hopefully help me one way or another.
The certs won't hurt that is for sure. Looking at the level of apprentices we are getting now. some won't make it very long and will need to be replaced. You have lots of time it will come be patience.
Yeah I know. When you get to a certain level of confidence, skill, and knowledge you just wind up like this. All the best operators I worked with and learned from were the same way.
Flip the box without spreaders so the ears are up pick up the other half with the spreaders. Spreaders facing down then the guys can control the box with the spreader Bars when you get to 12ft or 16 ft spreaders that's the only way
Not true at all. It depends on rigging, how the rig is congigured. The distance of the load from the center of the rig. Theas things all determin at what poing the rig will be able to lift a load. Also the knucle has more power to lift than the boom and stick. I guss I have to make a video on this. Thanks for the comment.
No way, you can not convince me to be one at this point. I have 5 years left to retire and I don’t want the stress. As for money 💰 I am well taken care of where I am at. I am training a few guys to fill my shoes when I retire.
How do you suggest we clean the clay out of the buckets when we are in situations that cause it to build up badly? A lot of west coasters in dry climates suggest never banging the bucket but man here in damp clay country I don’t know what else to do 🤷
I will use a smaller bucket every so often and scratch out the bulk of the build up. Or use the forks on the loader to scratch it out. Clay scucks to dig in. Another thing you can do before digging in clay is spray the bucket with WD 40 or some diesel. Doesn't last long thou. Also not packing the bucket full to avoid the suction affects or a hole cut in the back of the bucket. We have our fair share of clay here in the valley in CA.
I also work excavation in the south east so I deal with clay often and if you put chains on your bucket it helps or just take it at full throttle and go all the way open after the clay hardens until it all falls out
I have my entrance exam for local 3 August 14 in two days! Any tips for the test? Or just on getting into the apprenticeship. Also is there work for heavy equipment operating year around? Love the vids
Well mechanics work year round. And yes there is year round work for operators. Buuut that is usually for the guys that have been with a company a long time or are very valuable. As for the test it is mostly a intelligence / common knowledge test. The higher you score on the test the faster you will get into the apprenticeship. I am a bit of out of the loop on that side right now. Good luck on the test. Serval of the guys that have tried to join local 3 that watch my vids have gotten in. So keep me up to date on how things are going. I like to hear how my viewers are doing.
Given that Preston Pipelines and Ernest E. Pestana were based in basically the same neighborhood, I'm wondering if Preston picked up any of Ernie's people when he finally closed up his underground business. Mr. Pestana passed away in 2009.
Hey I’ve been trying to find a video I’m sure I seen on your channel of you saying tell me you have a bad ass loader hand without telling me you have a bad ass loader hand and you flip the camera to show a loader holding a nice load of barrels I’m a Local 3 loader operator apprentice myself I’m trying to find that video it has been itching me to find it if it is one of your videos can you please give me the title of the video 🙏🏻
