i was lucky enough to see mike and micky's final concert of their farewell tour. a few short weeks later mike was gone. i've been a monkees/nesmith fan since the tv show debuted in 1966 so seeing that show was like coming full circle (sky).
We wish Robert Michael Nesmith would've lived up to 💯 years old. It's just like what the former state secretary Henry Kissenger did. Even though the Beatles were more into politics than the Monkees were.
One of the most heartfelt and beautiful songs of all time! The harmonies are so haunting they tear my heart up everytime that I hear them absolutely beautiful! RiP Michael I'm sure that they love your music where you are!!
Mike was my favorite Monkee!! My name is Joanne, so I was shocked when I found out in the 70s that there was actually a song about a girl (who spelled her name the same way I do) named Joanne...and then to find out it was written by Mike Nesmith!! Love the pedal steel and his high notes. He is missed. I saw Peter and Micky in Charlotte back several years ago. I was so disappointed that Mike didn't join them that tour. They did a great "Daydream Believer" memorial tribute to Davy that night. Our usher told us he saw them in Charlotte (when they first started touring) and a new guy (Jimi Hendrix) did warm up for them!! Yep! THAT Jimi!! 😁
The most gifted musician and singer out of The Monkees and could hold his own against any of the singer/ guitarists of his generation. I loved this the very first time I heard it on the radio back around 1982. It was 12 years old by then and I realised Mike was a real musician and a great voice. God bless Mike. Sadly missed but forever remembered. 👏🌷🎼🎤
Two years later he passed, a very difficult song to sing, the highs are difficult and he still had it. Rest in peace Michael, I'll always remember you as a young man in the Monkees.
So very humble. What a wonderful person Can't believe he is gone. Miss you Mike. Thanhyou for all you gave while you were with us. Your music lives on forever
Cool! I just started playing the Uke about 2weeks ago. I caught on quickly due to playing guitar for over 20 years, I gotta learn some Built to Spill tunes, this looks fairly easy to take on, what's the chords you're using? Thanks! Builtiful cover, man! Thanks again!
That sounds like my journey - long time guitar player before taking on the uke. Believe it or not, at some point you will actually stop thinking "a G chord - that's a D on the guitar!" That took me a while. Will the below help? I just have the name of the chords on my cheat sheet. You should be able to consult the web and my fingering in the video to figure any subtleties out. Be sure to check out my video for "Car" if you haven't done so already, and let me know if you want those chords. I also worked up "Fling" but never made a video of it. Happy strumming! Even in old age Michael Nesmith still managed to knock out of the ballpark. He will be missed but not forgotten. This his signature song because the man had talent.
Thanks for capturing this with decent quality and sharing it. This could be, if not the last, close to the last recorded performance of Papa Nez. It's certainly the most recent performance of him that I've had the opportunity to enjoy. Most importantly, Mike is in good form here, both in voice and on guitar (amazing for a person his age), and he's back at the Troubadour! It's, also, an excellent performance of one of his most well known and loved songs, Joanne. How could ANYONE NOT like this! Well done, Speedy. L308C66V19351S61/:-)
@@speedyrb7382 I'm glad of that as well! I'll look for the other videos you posted, also. Yes, he'll be missed, but remembered with the help of people such as yourself who post videos of his performances. Hoe many more could there be yet seen? Thanks again. /:-)
Dont get many songs of love nowdays, its all my baby f this and my baby f that. Thanks very much for sharing this video. Who knew Speedy? who knew. RIP Michael. Thanks for the tunes.
Anyone who has love for his or her family just as Michael did makes a guy like me cry as I'm family oriented and wish more songs like this being recorded God bless.
