Just got a lense from MPB broke within the week. Returned it and they sent me another one where they superglued a ring on and made a grinding noise. When changing focus length. Returned that. Do not buy unless you can actually hold it.
as a true "travel" shooter, as in international and domestic air traveler, few tips... get the aluminum version, carbon fibre cracks and gets crushed... put it in a hardcase and check it in... sometimes, they don't let you carry on... I invested in a golf bag hard case (much cheaper than pelican cases) which can hold long items such as this, compact stands, boom pole
What's the word on rolling shutter on this bad boy? I was very interested in getting a couple until i saw that preview video by wandering DP then heard the rolling shutter might be a bit much for me. I do some kinetic moves and hate jellocam.
Great vid Mark! Its not expensive compared to the aputures I guess, so it is a good price although you are paying a good price for something really portable too. So it's not expensive compared to aputures but it is expensive compared to nanlite I think they got a 300w light that's 350£. But then again the portability and the fact that it can be 500w light at the same time is amazing for 600£ might have to add it to my kit haha
I was an early adopter and i'm still using my Terra 4K I bought 8 years ago as my A cam. The image quality is gorgeous and being able to use 3rd party batteries, ssd's and monitors really was a selling point for me. Red's ultra proprietary ecosystem was really what stopped me going that route. I'd rather use a poor man's Alexa than a rich man's Red ✌️
I've never been a fan of being too locked into an ecosystem. I think RED has come a long way from the early days but I do still get a not official media warning on my Komodo when using angelbird cards which are exactly the same as the official ones and on the approved list. But I agree with you I think non of us should be beholden to any brand. You just use what works best for you.
@@thatcameranerd I was already opposed to Red on principle, but after Linus Tech Tips did a tear down of a redmag a few years back and discovered that they're using off the shelf chinese ssds inside their housings and the only difference between an $80 ssd and a $800 redmag was a tiny bit of proprietary firmware they install on theirs to make them work with the camera, that was the final nail for me. I hope Nikon really shakes them up. For a company that started as a disruptor to shake up the established old guard in cinema, they went from the hero to the villian for me
I really love your taste and style always so chic. My faves would be the kislux leather backpack and the Swarovski pave diamond ring so gorg. Thank you for your recommendations.
At 13:43, you can really see how much more defined her strands of hair are and the color separation with the Red and Black Magic. The S5ii has her hair with hardly no detail or color separation. The S5ii is great but better with an external recorder to keep up with these other 2. Over saturating the colors is a nice trick, but the S5ii falls behind.
Highlights look so gross on the Sony. Correct answer is the C70; ive had FX3, Komodo, C70, R5C etc and C70 is the best with its DGO, internal ND's, internal RAW.
Honestly it's not as much about data. ELQ is probably about the same size as ALL-I, yet you'd see the same benefits. The Komodo uses highlight recovery software in camera to get around a stop more highlight retention compared the FX6. The Komodo also just grades nicer, better color straight out of camera. It is kind of like shooting with an ARRI in 10 bit 422, it still looks better than other cameras shooting RAW. I am not saying a Komodo is comparable to an Alexa but it definitely looks nicer SOC against an FX6. Now after proper coloring it can be pretty hard to tell any of these cameras apart for sure.
I think the umbrella is really supposed to be a reflector. The underside is silvered and you could point a flash into it, you just need to find a better way to mount it.
The lenses are almost the same, which is good for this comparison, but I think it would be useful if the ND filters were the same. Different ND filters can greatly affect image quality. I own an S5IIx and am very happy with the image quality and dynamic range. 12-bit BRAW files are wonderful to work with.
Thank you so much for making this. All this time seeing the Poco Mofage on Cammackay's YT Channel and I always assumed that it was "just" an easier drop in VND solution. 🤣🤣🤦🏻♂🤦🏻♂🤦🏻♀🤦🏻♀
@thatcameranerd, Good content. What about any recommended top handle and hand grip? 1. Pyxis does not come with a top handle. Third-party top handles + top plates are expensive, Any thought? 2 Can I re-use blackmagic's existing hand grip (from URSA broadcast g2, or URSA series). Thanks
I’m not sure if you can reuse the old one, maybe if the holes line up. I like the official one but it is pretty expensive. If you want a more budget option you could get a nato rail for the top of the camera then look at a cheaper handle maybe from tilta or small rig.
Great video! Liked the Komodo better in most instances. That being said, I own the S5ii and I noticed that there is a slight haziness to the Lumix footage. Is that what you meant when you said the ND has a "milky" quality? Or was it the result of shooting in Raw format? Just wondering because I am thinking of buying an external recorder. Cheers!
I got extremely lucky yesterday. I had my kit built out in b and h and will check daily for sales both there and other places. Came across the atomos shinobi for 139.99 USD on Newegg. Brand new with an optional 2 year support plan for 9.99 USD. that monitor retails for about 300-400 used and 599 USD new. I was extremely happy!
Thank you for the video. The BM 6k and Komodo traded blows as the best look. Sadly, the Panasonic suffered from over saturation and uneven tone in the dynamic range. This does not mean that the Panasonic is bad, there are ways to fix those problems. Also, if one is considering the S5II and you shoot a lot of video, buy the S5IIX. It can shoot RAW externally, as well as ALL-I and ProRes (no RAW). It would have been nice to see BRAW from the Panasonic in this test. I think the Panasonic results would have been better. The implementation of BRAW in the S5IIX is excellent.
3 items I bought from Temu was a universal camera cage/grip, a 30cm reflector and a backdrop. The grip is probably the best overall, and the reflector us a good follow up (I kind of wish I got the bigger one). The backdrop feels cheap, but it's better than no Backdrop.
I have I use the potkeys monitor on my Komodo. That monitor has camera control for some cameras which this monitor does not. I think overall I prefer the picture the most on the video assist, then the portkeys and then this monitor. Both the porkeys and the video assist are definitely more accurate than this monitor.
@@thatcameranerd Thankyou . Bit cheaper too. I overall like the idea of a monitor, but it is another camera thing that I am trying to not waste money on. I am only making marketing stuff for my business, so I would rather not spend a fortune on it, but at the same time, I am not a professional, so any assistance they can give me is an advantage, but I don't think I want to spend 5-600 on a proper fancy one. I am leaning heavily towards the portkeys. Just so affordable. It is a price where if I decided down the road I wanted a nicer one, I wouldn't feel bad for wasting too much money too. Thanks a lot for the reply
@jamesmcconnon2 I haven’t used the cheaper portkeys monitor but I did see they make one for a similar price. But I think if you don’t want to spend a lot on a monitor that has features you don’t need then the portkeys or this monitor are good options. Like you said it’s not worth spending a fortune if all you need is a bigger screen to see what your shooting
