Welcome to YakAngling. Join me in all things kayaking and fishing from open water to the ice and my outdoor adventures as I work my way across Minnesota's lakes, rivers and ponds.
I just sold off my feelfree for a crescent primo, the feelfree is made of junky plastic, is waaaay to heavy, hard to paddle, i just never wanted to use it! Only OK if you leave it at a lakeside camp in my opninion.
@@bradleecaldor6567 yes it is heavy but I did find them well built. However it is hard to beat the Crescent line or any Kayak that is built lighter and glides faster. I camp with my Kayak in rivers so the Crescent is ideal. Looking forward to another camping trip with the Crescent this weekend and a video should be posted soon. Thanks for the comment and checking out the video. 🤙
@@jklavarta53 thanks I appreciate it. Hopefully showing the difference between the two styles makes it easier for many people choosing the type of kayak that best fits their needs even if it isn’t a Feelfree or Crescent kayak. It’s been tuff to get out and I now have time to get back to kayak fishing and camping. Thanks for the subscribe 🤙
I also have the Crescent LiteTackle (tan) and wife has the Crescent UltraLite. Out of lots of research and trying out several makes, Crescent has been the best. Speed is there but maybe more important is 'ease of paddling.' The hull design also gives it great maneuvering with little effort.
Oh, I meant to also say; That Crescent is very fast for being the dimensions/fishing kayak.. Sure you could get one of those long narrow racing kayaks but they are not the tool for fishing. I've compared it to many kayaks made for fishing and this is almost as fast as my Generation 1 Hobie Quest 13' fishing kayak.
I own the same Lite Tackle as you. Mine weighs all of 75 pounds without the seat. As long as the water is deep enough to keep the keel from dragging, the Crescent is an awesome machine!! And I agree as for paddling up stream, the Crescent cuts easily through the water. It's one of my favorite to paddle in deep enough water.
Great comparison. Do you think the lite tackle could work for a one man throw in the bed of the truck and go to the lake for a quick afternoon trip? or is the craft too big that? Also do you this thing would be nice in flat water?
I would most defiantly recommend it for that. I can flip my LiteTackle up over my head to throw it on a roof rack and haul it on my car but even more easy to load in a truck as I do usually. That kayak works fantastic on flat water. So far of all kayaks the LiteTackle is the most versatile to paddle and throw and go that I have used. I recommend it.
@@PhillyFanatic1 I have heard the CK1 may be a bit more stable on flat water because the kayak haul design and if that's what you fish the most I would consider it especially if you consider standing to sight fish or the need to stretch your legs a bit. Also the CK1 is a few pounds lighter. I however like the closing hatch on the LightTackle myself so ultimately it will be a hard decision but I good kayak either way.
Thanks. Ice conditions this year are ruff and I may consider going back out there for some snow hiking, camp and fishing venture back on that location this winter.
Finding a place locally that has plastic can be difficult to find. I have found it on Ebay and search black or white Delrin or grey PVC. This same process can work with green treat wood. preventing any rot through the years is why I went with a plastics.
Sad about losing some of that white bass and camping footage. Did you have everything loaded on your yak? That’s on my list- river fishing, camping, and cooking.
Yeah unfortunately I was running power off my portable battery pack to my GoPro and it came loose when fumbling around in my hatch for water where the battery pack was and it cut power off. Better luck next time I guess. Seriously the kayak camping is a blast you should do it! Looking forward to getting another run out there on the river for a winter run. The high for today in MN is 25 Degrees. Maybe do a snow camp.
@@YakAngling LOL snow camp. That would be a fun time. Maybe when my kiddos are older we can all go and have a good time haha. I carry extra cables with me - I messed up one on an outing and wasn’t able to power my GoPro anymore lol. I’ve also unplugged mine accidentally but caught it pretty quickly.
BOOYAH Poppin' Pad Crasher Topwater Bass Fishing Hollow Body Frog Lure with Weedless Hooks in the Leopard Frog color. I do trim the leg hairs back about 1/2 to 3/4 inch to keep the bite close to the body and bend hooks out just enough to catch my finger on hook when gliding finger over the back. Thanks for watching! Next year I'll try to get back out there a few more times. It's about a 1/8 mile walk down hill to that lake and coming out is exhausting but worth every cast.
Honestly I would, but for me to be able to keep locations on the down low is key to not giving up the privacy of the lakes and rivers I fish. I fish all over central and south eastern MN if that helps. Thanks for watching and Tight Lines!
Yep, unfortunately the season is changing. I'm hoping to make one more venture out there before the lilies are curled up. Upside is nice because the big ones are still hungry feeding hard before the freeze over! I will miss those topwater blow ups!
I haven’t had a frog bite in a little bit, so I’m living vicariously through your video haha. They absolutely DEMOLISHED that frog. I don’t think I’ve caught as many top water fish ever. Good stuff. Beautiful spot.
I will definitely keep that in mind next time. I know the shore line was very steep and water was deep. I need to get my Garmin installed and map it so I can better plan it for fishing and structure. Hoping I find walleye in there too. Thanks For watch and tights lines!
Yeah I saw many bass that I never hooked up on. Next time I will go in with my Garmin to map it and locate fish deeper. The water was so clear and I hope there may be walleye in there as well. may do that on a cloudy day. Tight Lines Benonem!
Loving the channel Chet.. Tough choice between the kayaks.. The seat that raises is super cool vs the platform riser seat.. The storage space is better in the larger yak.. Good information on advantages of each model..
I got the plastic stock from my local hardware store. I know you can get them on Ebay. You may have to cut them to size as it may come in square stock or sheet stock. You can use delrin plastic as well if it is available.
Indeed it is nice stumbling on great fishing. Looking forward to more locations on that small river stretch. Should be posting that one as well. Thanks for checking it out!
Yeah, it has been a tuff year with flooding waters. All we can do is hope people can stay safe and make better decisions to prevent a worst-case scenario.
Very nice, but it would've been nicer if you have a shout out to NDYAKANGLER for his awesome "Sledski" video which I believe spawned this version. Just a thought, partner.
I did take a chance to watch it and yeah I can see some similarities in my build, but I see similarities in many builds from others as well with different concepts. However, I used "steel EMT pipe and fittings" not "aluminum to weld permanent". As for my build it can be changed by EMT fittings. I did not use brackets to hold the sled in place on my smitty sled like he did. I used eyelets to offer a way to strap the sled to the smitty sled to prevent it frim slipping around and keeping the ice shack tight to smitty sled. I see that build was made 4 years ago by NDYAKANGLER and I doubt he was the first to build one like that. I took my ideas from my own concept. I'm a machinist by trade and my job is in design and manufacturing so it's kind of in my wheelhouse of work. I can't say I owe him a shout out for my build, however I did like his sledski to from what I saw. I do have plans to make some additional add-ons to the smitty sled that I built as it will show more reasons how mine differs from others. I hope that clears things up and thanks for checking it out. Tight lines Steve!
It works fantastic. I needed a net that can collapse for backpacking in BWCA and to pack away in my kayak. The function of the collapsing net still performs like the nylon net but I have more control of the fish as the rubber is more forgiving and causing less trauma on the fish scales and also on a trout's skin. Hand down the best decision making this conversion.
Almost 20 inches on Boom Lake in Rhinelander WI. About 4 inches of crap ice and 15 of clear ice. Supposedly the most ice in the state. Great video bud. Heading out today.
Very nice, simple and clean. What I REALLY need is some sort of creative? simple? quick? way to attach? or just have wheels for when I would need to walk a bit on the pavement before snow/ice. Any ah ah! ideas?
@@YakAngling Oh be sure to make a video of it for us :D I mean even on a frozen lake without snow... you wouldn't want to pull skis as it would scrape the skis bad... would be better to pull with wheels... probably easier as well. As for the designs,,, i was watching videos from those kayakers who makes dollies for moving on land or even those small boats with flip up/down wheels, etc... i actually like something similar to what is used for skis on snowmobiles.
Follow the river downstream past the old train Trestle on the south side of the river. There is a moderate inclined hike down to the water, roughly a 150 yards or so.
I love it. I’m looking to get another one for the swifter rivers. That may be the Crescent Light Tackle 2. This lure seriously has fantastic comfort with the 10” adjustable seat height and stability is amazing even for standing. I will be looking to modify a new center console for a trolling motor this winter. I would definitely recommend one.
