Ferko won first prize with their Salute to My Fair Lady-one of the coldest parades on record. My Dad parade with Ferko and said saxes were freezing up, lips were cut open and hands frozen from the cold!!!
Do I surmise correctly that the band stopped at a special senior’s home to serenade and wish well? What was he - retired band member? Beloved veteran? Whoever he was it sure brought him happiness!
Help me out here - Can anyone identify the string band tune starting at 12:52? Hearing it, I recognized (what I assumed was) 'You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile' from the 1982 'Annie' musical which came out 2 years after this parade recording and I can find no other writing credit going back any earlier than '82...I just know the Annie tune HAS to be based on something from circa the 20's or 30's, and this mummer rendition must be the 'real deal'...same melody, slightly different cadence. Such a sweet, wonderful tune.
