Not very impressed by Tom Mix, bit long in the tooth to be a western hero and spent much of the film chasing the wrong villain. How many times did the chief villain have to say: i will be the most powerful man in the world. Enjoyed, but prefer westerns without telephones, televisions radios, sky missiles and motor cars
The male convicts are looking for civilian clothes , hand guns & ammo but when they could have easily overwhelmed Roy by pistol whipping him from behind ; they do a fist fight and not Roy down a steep hill but fail to follow him down to the bottom to strip him of his fancy outfit , gun belt & two pistols; it doesn't make sense. What not someone of the gang wear the best cowboy outfit; Roy's ?
Being this is the 1950's ; female cross-dressing ( transvestism ) was acceptable in certain cases but not widespread. therefore it is escaped male prisoners to knock out cowboys to switch clothes with the escaped outlaws. Since the 1960's onward ; it would now have women escaped prisoners looking to knock out cowboys like Pat Brady for his double denim outfit or hitting the " jackpot " by knocking out Roy rogers and steal his sleek, ornate, fancy cowboy outfit for the lucky female convict ring leader to ' don " Roy's fancy pants, shirt, boots , hat & gun belt ! In 1952 's "movie : " Son of Paleface "; Jane Russell dressed as Hopalong Cassidy but she is an outlaw; does knock out Roy but the screen writers failed to have Jane strip Roy of his fancier cowboy duds to add to her cowboy outfit wardrobe. If I had written this script; Jane would strip Roy and put his outfit on herself immediately to admire her cowboy outfit conquest !
Who can't love horses? Watch that horse Burt Lancaster rides, just prance with energy to do his gig. God shows us true goodness through Horses and Puppy Dogs, they are Authentic, Genuine Goodness.
i have seen 16 of kermit maynard's 18 b-wessterns including this one. the 2 i have never found are Wilderness Mail (1935), Wild Horse Round-Up (1936), in case you can find either of them. keep the b-westerns coming and hopefully some that i want.
I think everyone here might enjoy a little background on Tom Mix. He was born in 1880 and grew up in Pennsylvania, however he wouldn’t stay long. He joined the army in 1898 at the outbreak of the Spanish American war, although his unit never went overseas. Afterwords he worked various ranch and cowboy jobs in Oklahoma, Colorado, North Dakota, and Arizona in the final years of the old west even serving as a marshal briefly in Oklahoma in 1911. He was known to be an expert shot and horseman. So my friends, the reason for telling you all this is very simple. We are watching a western with a real, honest to god, old west cowboy as it’s lead. That is really damn cool.
It's Great seeing Jean Parker playing the Heavy, the Bad Guy Role. She has has usually been type casted as the goofy but diligent female nosey. I liked her in this movie as the villain. ❤❤❤
John Ford was the master of the American Western, but also won Oscars for various other films over his long career. Good to see this one and "The Iron Horse" saved from this era.
Was wondering if it was really Hoot Gibson riding the bronco since he was pushing 40 in this flick---but since Hoot said THIS was his favorite film role, it had to be him, or footage of him recorded in earlier rodeo years.
