The beauty of his songs wether solo or with his wife in their bamd Lost Dog Street Band is that his songs are so relatable. For instance this song Using Again is relatable whether we are that person, have a co worker or family member or a friend that yas been through this, it puts insight on the emotions and guilt .
The clothes they're wearing in this video are not indicative of what they usually wear. The band is all about substance, they usually wear whatever they feel comfortable in and don't care about giving off some kind of image. The instrumental and the clothes they're wearing in this video is just part of the artistic image of the album Grey Britain which portrays a bleak and hopeless England, with a Victorian, WW1, WW2 mood.
Agree 100% Daniel is untouchable on vocals. But the Jon Oliva Zak Stevens Savatage is an interesting observation too. Love them both for different songs.
Love you two!! Great review. This is my favorite band since 1997. So do yourself a favor and watch the whole album. They are next level good. FYI the mandola is a homemade instrument made by Daniel’s father. It’s brilliant 💕 Yes this was live. I’ve seen them multiple times live and they are unbelievable Start with Entropia. Work your way to o to this one. Their best work is their latest - in the Passing Light of Day
Australian???? Andy Latimer is from Guildford in Surrey, England. He's the most English person you could meet. And Keith Richards is older and not fit to lick Andy Latimer's shoes as a guitarist.
There's a surprising amount of cross-over between prog and metal with bluegrass. I go to a huge bluegrass festival and a large number of the younger people are also prog metal fans. I think the appreciation for instrumentation is the common denominator, enjoying skillful playing over brevity and catchiness.
I agree completely, bluegrass and other related traditional music from the folk tradition categories is very, very different than country music, especially modern country. Check out Trampled By Turtles, Billy Strings, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Avett Brothers for more great music from this folk/bluegrass revival!
You have to hear this songs intro in the context of the album, I feel personally. There's a very Victorian London, Black plague element feel to the complete LP. Mostly it's a brutal album but then has moments, such as the intro to Misery that add respite and creates a chapter for the next part of the records story. I think if viewed with that in mind it takes on a completely different tone and the piano segments length doesn't feel as unwelcome.
TesseracT inspired band!! i never guess i will see a reaction to their stuff!! so good!! i dicover this band a while back! their new stuff is not quite my taste but the older stuff is so godd!! is like unprocessed... i hate when band chance to more commercial stuff
sp gppd seeing fellow metal head discover one of my favorite bands!! you will love war of being their new album!! dan tompkins have a fry scream that will rip you face!! eheh
Got some Little Milton in my collection. Never thought of this track as Motown sound. More like Stax sound. Like Sam/Dave & Otis. If anyone reading this liked this song, here are a few others of his to check out: That Will Never Do, Same Old Blues, She Put a Spell on Me, Life is Like That, Have Mercy Baby & Twenty Three Hours.
The band got their name by opening a history book at random, original name was the 7 years war but when they changed lineup they thought they should change names too
Check out more modern bluegrass groups. Nickel Creek is one of the innovators. Joy Kills Sorrow is awesome. Molly Tuttle and Golden Highway, The Dead South (fyi...they're Canadian)......and many, many more. Allison Krause and Union Station has changed the face of bluegrass music. If you really want to hear something incredible react to Rhiannon Giddens. She plays the banjo and fiddle, but isn't considered bluegrass.
Guys, you are very correct about it being regional, it is quintessentially English and the album is the pinnacle of British Prog, imo the best ever prog album. Have a listen to the track ''Battle Of Epping Forest'', that is very London gangland themed, and PG at his best. You need to listen to the whole album in one. Its a journey. I want to add more but Vince below has already summed it all up. Thanks for reacting.
This song is perfect for Memorial Day, it's slow, it's emotional, and it always makes me cry. It is one of their most wonderful songs and gives a more metal power feel to the ballads honoring our fighters and fallen. I salute everyone who dons that uniform to serve, and especially those who couldn't come home. o7
I'm glad you mentioned despite how heavy it is, it's still beautiful. Periphery are masters at that. I think it's time you guys check out another one....
