Rabbit seems like a social turd and potential creep, but the rest of the group seem like complete arseholes as well. That they’re “better”. I’d hate to meet them in real life. The dude who wrote the rabbit story wrote in looking for validation.
While rabbits looks like a dumb but fun dnd player, i can understand op on the first part of the history with the roomate playing Magic, there are already very few girls on hobby stores, and mostly is because they feel something like this could happen, i could understand flirting with a girl if you are playing or taking part of a multiple people conversation and feel like the girl might be into you, but just walking to her face and trying to pick up some girl on a hobby store doesn't feel right to me.
I'm sorry but for that guy to get so salty cuz his roomate was hit on is craaaazy. You yelling at rabbit causing a scene for everyone to stare is most likely what made your roommate feel so uncomfortable. BTW that Pokémon line was GOLD 😅
I'm sorry but putting a literal collar on someone's character and making them be at another's beck and call is a dick move. I don't know any friend group where that'd work without causing friction around the table.
I agree, I just listened to that bit again and it sounds awful. I'm not one of those delicate players with lots of red lines but forcing a persons character to wear a collar is actually kind of weird and humiliating and enough to raise an eyebrow alone. Let alone forcing them to busk for money in the narrative, the player needing to ask permission to use spells or abilities(!), having to come when called like the house elves in Harry Potter? Yeah, not for me. I'm uncomfortable if I'm sat around that table. Because that's not banter, that's 100% bullying and I would absolutely be the one to say "wait hold on a minute..." if I ever saw this happening in a game I was at.
WTF didn't anyone actually help Rabbit, pull the guy to the side and tell him he's fucking up.

I am going to say in the first story I agree with North that there comes a point where people become the problem themselves by trying to be "too nice." and not ending problems and letting terrible behavior continue. Not sure I would say they become the nightmare, the person doing the crap is the nightmare, but they are clearly the problem for not just ending the chance for the behavior to happen in the first place. On the second one, I would say my response would depend a lot on the reaction I got from the woman I am with. My wife would just tell the person she was not interested and be chill, though I have dated women that this sort of behavior would be very intimidating and cause anxiety and or even outright fear, and I would have to ask them to stop and leave her alone gently and if they did not then so I would not be kindly about it. Either way it was an interesting story Rabbit sounds like a real piece of work all around. I am Looking forward to The Amber King tomorrow, I have watched his stuff before, and I enjoyed it. After 4 years of listening to you deliver all these stories I have noticed the gradual shift in the stories that you received, from the early more heartfelt and believable to the whining and "North will take my side" stories that have really surfaced in the past 6 months. Not all obviously, but way more than I thought you would get.
This might be random, but I’m playing against a younger lad (14) soon who is just getting into 40K. I’m taking a fluffy chilled list of 1000pts and plan to ‘throw the game’ but how can I make it not look obvious I’m letting them win. Maybe mr north himself can advise from his experience of intro game
the first show and tell is a 55 tonne Shadowhawk mech from the Battletech/Mechwarrior universe , the third ones were a 70t GRH-5 Grasshopper & what I think is a 20t "Stinger" (I think)...The Grasshopper is one of my favorite mechs out of almost 2000 mechs from that Universe. I ran it in Mechwarrior Online with 5 Large Lasers making it a heavy, highly mobile long range sniper. I even have a banger vid using one from 3 years ago. LOVE that mech! Thank you for sharing!
Thanx North! Been lurking your channel for some time now. One of my really good friends and Fellow Friday 40k'er even wrote in a couple of months ago. "Canuck" has been a long time friend & I got to hear about his story first hand when it happened LoL - Great channel! Keep it up :)
For story 1- that's the thing, if you're going to be face to face with these people across many sessions then you have to put the hammer down or you're just going to subject yourself to a whole heap of unpleasantness. The one from the other day at least those two ridiculous Smash brothers metal fans were drunk and the OP just ducked out the room and never spoke to them again, but if you're committing to a campaign with idiots and hours and hours of their company then that's a whole different ballgame. As for the rabbit story, wow what a wild ride.
So basically Rabbit is socially inept but in time could be bolstered up to be better but instead you just bullied somebody over and over again. Thats just disgraceful he in time could be better, you will always have bullied somebody.
A yard is a unit of measurement equal to three feet. One foot 12 inches. You use inches to play 40K so I’m sure you have a ruler as a frame of reference. Case in point, we like yards more than meters.
GW can't keep getting lucky forever with lucky breaks bailing them out for their stupidity. If you want idiotic marketing, take Gorkamorka. GW tried to market this as its entry product into the mainland European market. Gorkamorka, a childish-sounding game whose name makes no sense without a background in preexisting lore, a setting which was all Orks (a faction whose entire identity is tied to very British humour) without a Space Marine in sight, and whose background did nothing to elaborate on the wider setting (and was replete with Easter eggs about not-yet-introduced-as-factions Necrons and Ad Mech). This is your planned intro game to a major market? According to the story as Goonhammer told it, only getting the Middle Earth licence saved the company from that idiotic misstep and vast piles of returned Gorkamorka boxes.
Pre-sti-di-gi-ta-tion It’s the cantrip spell that lets you do little flashy things like pull a bouquet of roses out of your breast pocket or a coin out of someone’s ear, spontaneously make a cold cup of Yorkshire Tea hot, or other assorted minor effects that otherwise have no impact on gameplay but can enhance the role play at the game-a wizard smoking a pipe is not as interesting as a wizard smoking a pipe but the wizard is blowing smoke despite the pipe being completely empty.
Don't know the D&D side of things, but in real life it was sleight-of-hand tricks, the sort of thing you'd see from street magicians and in talent shows. Not big, not flashy, but easily learned and entertaining.
As far as the Heresy story is concerned, my main bugbear is the way it's presented in the novels: Chaos loses all the time, even in its own books, and yet somehow never ceases to be a major threat. Other than the three canonical 'shattered legions', any legion can be all but destroyed and be back to full strength in time for the next battle - that did happen with loyalists (Blood Angels after Fear to Tread), but it's most obvious with the Traitors: the Iron Warriors were all but wiped out by Fulgrim but it didn't stick, the Word Bearers committed most of their strength to Ultramar and they and the World Eaters were pretty much decimated, the Night Lords were scattered yet somehow amassed 20,000 soldiers to attack Pharos (and, naturally, lose to about a dozen Scythes-of-the-Emperor to be, but did the loss of that much manpower stick? Of course not). Erebus is a cartoon villain throughout and the pretexts for his survival after every mostly failed scheme get sillier and sillier. By the time the remnants get to Terra most of the Traitors should be dead, the Dark Mechanicum has largely been neutralised, and all the relevant Army forces are on the Loyalist side - the battle should have been over in minutes. There's never any overview of 'this is where the war is now' and who's doing what, probably because it would reveal just how little sense the story progression makes. As for your points on the book bloat, I think most of the first 10 were needed - they mainly tell a coherent story that describes how the Great Crusade gets derailed and the 40k universe is set in motion (Descent of Angels notwithstanding - the Dark Angels books largely took place in isolation from anything else in the series). I see Mechanicum as the crux point - both an important book for the series (and you do seem to assume that the Marines are all that matter - the Mechanicum needed attention in this series, and for that matter the Imperial Army and Titan Legions could have benefitted more from book) and the point after which the bloat really set in.
Sadly GW doesnt care for the current fans. It cares for the fans it can milk in the future. We are already a milked community that produces less and less revenue, therefor we are getting replaced by a new breed of cow ....
To steal a quote from my favorite show: "It's not the alcohol, or the drugs, or any of the shitty things that happened to you in your career, or when you were a kid....it's you." This extends just as easily to any matter of mental health. Your actions effect other people, and it doesn't matter what the reason/excuse you may think you have is, if your actions/attitude negatively effect others, you need to do some personal reflection. "You can't keep doing shitty things, and then feel bad about yourself like that makes it okay. You need to be better."
You have a point, but at the same time you dont. Its a bottomless pit you are trying to get yourself into, and you wont get out of it. That much is sure. As things stand the logic of "dont try to excuse your behavior" can be pulled onto almost anything, including identity politics, but thats not a fight you are going to win. Ever. Its rooted in tribalism, its rooted in virtue nonsense, its rooted in ideology and its rooted in religion. The only thing you will achieve is that one of these ppl will put you on blast, then their tribe comes and ruins your life. Thats the extent of it. Not more and not less, because you are trying to be sensible and rational with the kind of people who are anything but.
I legit want to know: Who gets to decide what is an "overpowered" build? Over what? What even is the bar? Is there such thing as an underpowered list, or do the slowest always set the pace for everybody else period? Why is it everybody else's duty to play down to your level and not your job to play up to theirs? Customizing your build for advantage is part of the game. Why do you get to ban others from playing it because you refuse to keep up?
Not into Luther as a Primarch. A lot of his conflict comes from the fact that Caliban was his world, and he would have been the Order's greatest leader if not for the Lion
I guess but him being able to best the lion doesn't make sense. They're just on different levels. I think this is a fitting workaround that still gives Luther a relationship and a motivation.
You know I used to enjoy your videos, but this one is way too far. I run my games and give different voices to all my NPCs. My players enjoy it. I am also one of the "Greybeards" you talk about as I have been playing/running games for nearly 40 years. You really are a bit of a bellend, aren't you?
After the heresy I'd love to see a second legion chapter called the penintant wardens and they search the galaxy retreiving the chaos artifacts scattered after the fall of Caliban
An idea for the 11th legion Primarch. He completely squandered his potential talent and didn't develop any useful skills. The Emperor comes to collect him and realises he couldn't even lead a dog on a leash; so the Emperor kills him and divides the 11th amongst the other legions.
ADHD runs in my family. I have it, my dad has it, my mom has it, etc etc. growing up used to try and use it as a crutch to do what I want and every time my dad would yell at me to take responsibility of my choices. So props to you dad for making me a good person 😎
This is one of the best endings I've heard to a story. Reiken has a good girl, new friends and a true bro. The baddies lost out. This is the standard to which i will now hold stories.
I’m saving this video! Loved the story with Lee, I thought he was great. Problematic? Sure, but I thought he was tolerable. The retelling of the Hat story had me rolling lol
Here's an additional thing that just occurred to me about ai imagery. For anyone who thinks it's wrong to generate your own "Warhammer whatever" imagery using AI - why is it better for an artist to profit from commercially producing "actual art" based on GW's copyrighted material? If an artist produces and sells items such as army cards professionally, they're surely doing to GW what it is claimed AI is doing to them?. How do you stand on 3D printing? "Space Elf Black Harvester Lord for Battleaxe 40,000,000" for example is fairly obviously Maugan Ra, which is GW IP. Is that also bad? Is it bad if an individual uses AI to create an STL for "Space Soldier Smurf Lord" and prints their own Marneus rather than buying the official model or buying an STL from someone else? Why? I'm genuinely curious. In my mind, all these have a lot of crossover.
