My grandfather was the cryptographer at site 85, and was listed MIA. They unveiled a monument down in Alabama at the Air Force enlisted museum in 2018 to honor those men whose lives were lost at Site 85. I was able to attend with my dad, my uncle, and my cousin. They really did a fantastic job honoring the men and their families.
As a retired Air Force member, I found the book "One Day Too Long" extremely interesting. It was a tragedy that didn't have to happen. Am I correct from what you say that your grandfather is Willis Hall?
