Bruges were brilliant going forward in this game in 76 but were so negative in the European Cup final in 1978, there keeper jensen was a very good keeper though !
lnter won the second leg controversially 3-1 and went through 4-3 on agg...but their were big time suspicions from the lfc players that the spainish referee had be paid off....and years later after an investegation by an sunday times newspaper sports journalist...it proved to be the case.
i stood on the old kop, aged 9 in 1960. it was a reserve game, we won. that was it, i became a kopite that day, every home game league and fa cup ,european game until i got married 1976.
Manchester United and city never be has good has liverpool because i love liverpool since 1974 and yes i love the Beatles has im from Leicester up the reds
I remember me and the father were going to this ..then decided at last minute we'd never get in ...we were sick as parrots when we saw the highlights and crowd..the night that got away
football as it should be......old times way,,,,without VAR//////// no tatoo.......without losing time, without fake injury/pain/wound .........and above all with very good players...I miss it enormously
IS IT BECAUSE THIS EUFA CUP FINAL WAS LATE THAT LIVERPOOL PLAYED THEIR LAST GAME AT WOLVES LATER WHICH THEY FAMOUSLY WON WITH 3 LATE GOALS TO DENY QPR THE TITLE I THOUGHT THE LAST LEAGUE MATCHED WERE ALL SUPPOSED TO BE PLAYED SIMULTANEOSLY
It was years before that happened. there are no end of examples of-shall we say-dubious results that happened due to teams playing catch up well after the seasons official end. Coventry in 86 I think it was had four games to catch up and had to win them all to stay up (they did) including a 4-1 thrashing of Everton who had already won the league and presumably didn't care. Orient beat a pissed up Cardiff 1-0 to relegate Blackpool in 1978 Div 2-Cardiff having already survived their relegation fight-Orient had to win.....The worst examples came in the World Cups of 78 and 82-Argentina knowing they had to win by four goals v Peru to make the final (it was decided in a group of four) bribed and beat Peru 6-0 and Austria and W Germany in 1982 deliberately played out a 1-0 win for Germany in order for both of them to qualify for the next stage. I dont give a damn about all the whinging of "Having to play x games in y days so that the season finishes for everyone at the same time same date, the cheating was nauseating. It was a crying shame QPR didn't win the title in 76. They were superb.
If Walt wouldn’t have shaved his head when he did then I don’t think Tuco would’ve took him serious when he walked in. Cuz I think he shaved his head right before going to see him
Every Liverpool Player BRITISH, wages nominal, it was ALL about the passion playing for LIVERPOOL FC & there supporters. Today is just a Farcical Money Circus. I paid 50p to get into that game, mitched off school travelled 300 miles in a crappy old motor with my older Brothers & started queuing at 12.00. The KOP was jammers by 6.00. My most memorable Liverpool game EVER. Thankfully the motor made the 600 mile round trip. Those were the days.
See John Toshack's comments on this match in the link below, interesting stuff. The final might have turned out differently if he hadn't challenged Shankly on his team selection. Sounds like Bill Shankly put his ego to one side and took on board Toshack's advice. Perhaps that's part of what made him a great manager, being willing to change his mind when one of his players challenges him for the right reasons ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4MjITa6Kbs8.html
I loved Keegan the little man would die for the shirt never stopped running or fighting the keeper as well Ray Clemence World Class Keegan still the only Englishman to b European Footballer of the Year twice
Apparently the Liverpool first tie was abandoned due to torrential rain after 20 minutes an replayed the next day which is why the pitch was so bad. This happening was a game changer and resulted in a tactical switch according to John Toshack's story ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4MjITa6Kbs8.html
Will never forget the Fairclouch goal. Still remember everybody was down on the french defender Christian Lopez cz he didn't commit a fault.... great memories...
