Beautiful! I have two Corniche (1981 & 1992) and a 1968 Fixed-Head Coupe. You are correct, the coupe is a "barge" compared to my 1981/1992! Rolls Royce continued to dramatically improve their cars in quietness, tightness, etc. There was a dramatic improvement between my 1981 and 1992!
I think we all should wtite letters to sir Jim Radcliffe of ineos, to now build a fully carbon duplicate of the series 3. He's done a brilliant job with his grenadier, now he could do the same with these. Similar to Tim robbins character in "the shaw shank redemption" we should all write him at least one letter a week, till the mattets closed. The world needs these cars. I'm off to get a book of stamps😊
I own a 1936 Bentley 4 1/4 Litre and it’s absolutely fabulous. It’s perfectly capable of use as a daily driver and can keep up with modern cars in today’s traffic.
Inspected and approved, but I would want something more recent. Even a model from the year of my birth (1953) would not do the job. Maybe an S2 coupe (not the coupes with the fastback) or drophead. I see fully restored samples go for half a mill or so, rather steep.
Did I hear correctly that this went for... 55,000 POUNDS (not even $?) in 1985 or 1989? Because I remember Rolls Royce ads in the US in 1981 selling brand new Silver Wraiths for... $49,000!
These are nice cars, but I personally would not be parting with 6 figures to have one. If you are willing to do that, then I think probably money is no object, in which case lucky you.
Absolutely gorgeous car.. my son and I are completing a full restomod on his 86 XJS coupe.. shaved body (no door handles,no horrific bulgy signal lights, even the finger hump on the gas door).. custom engine management by mobeck(DIS, injectors,IAC),, custom headers and ceramic coated in and out,,, everything steel is chromed under the hood,, custom snorkels bolted to 75mm throttles,,, all suspension blasted and powdered coated,,, custom 1-1/4" front sway bar,, 1" sway in the back,, all suspension have polyurethane bushings,,, custom interior and trunk,, remote door opening,, removed the auxiliary gas tank and placed the battery in the right fender pocket,, midnight black satin paint,,, 18"x 9" rims,, 275/45 skins,, 1-1/2" spacers,,, plastic high pressure fuel lines,, custom 6 hole louvers on the hood,, original complete TWR body kit,,,,40 mm suspension drop (frt/bck),,, complete Focal sound system,,, custom 14" steering wheel,, relocated power steering and transmission coolers all fasteners are SS,, and it goes on.. these cars are incredible if you just improve them a little.. here in Canada, they are very rare..
I love it, I think I like the coupes a little better. The coupes look a little more understated, less flamboyant Thank you for your hard work on this video.
Just returned from a trip to the bay of Naples in my 1990 V12 convertible, covered 3000 miles car did not miss a beat, we took 4 large suitcases which was the envy of every Ferrari owner we came across. On the downside I have owned the car around 20 years and in that time it has been restored three times at a cost of £230,000 in total these cars are not for making a profit on, my advise to anyone who wants a great car is buy one that someone else has paid to have done.
Lucky you. I went in one my friends father had about 1980, and it was smooth and brisk. I personally would be shy to spend that much on keeping one going, but if you have the funds, no reason not to.
An exceptionally nice example, it's very apparent that someone has spent a lot of money maintaining this car to such a high standard. Whilst the individual additions of steering wheel, alloy wheels and gold plated mascot may not be to everyones taste they can easily be returned to standard. I quite like them.
Good to see you back making videos again. I love the eclectic range of cars you sell and enjoy your “walk arounds”. Even though many of them are out of my price range, I find the films very interesting.
I bought an MG Metro Turbo brand new in late 1983. Mine was Black which was easily the best colour for this car. It was a flawed masterpiece, fantastic to drive, lots of fun and the A Plus engine had no problems being boosted with a turbocharger. The achillies heel was the gearbox, it simply could not cope with the extra power. I had third gear replaced under warranty and shortly after the 3 year warranty lapsed I had to pay for a new gearbox. Soon after that I P/X'd the Metro as I needed a bigger car. I discovered that my old Metro needed another replacement gearbox only 12 months later. Rust on the door panels was also an issue. Typical Austin Rover, launch a car before it was ready.
Wonderful video once again. I’m always impressed when you point out the small, and obvious flaws in the cars you sell, and what you do to rectify those flaws, very well done. I wish more people would do what you do, a real credit to you and your company.
What a beautiful looking car in a lovely colour scheme. As you say, a good year too having the benefit of better breathing heads, fuel injection, mineral oil brakes and suspension but avoiding the unnecessary active ride and so on complexities of the later models. A lovely way to travel. I enjoyed watching that. Thank you Nick.
1st car I drove at the age of 11 (my mother's). She had an Escort Mk1 company car for a few years which I was not allowed to drive, so I was very pleased when she got a Mk2 Farina A40 a few years later. Oddly I passed my test (1st time) in a Mk 1 Escort.
LOL......driving an absolute priceless Rolls, yet you spend most of the time driving it whilst talking and looking at the camera..... thats balls right there 🤣
I’ve been advised by a garage owner to steer well clear of the V12 because, he says, the last two spark plugs are exceptionally difficult to swap out and as a result many owners never bother to. Do you (or anyone else) have any comments on that? Also what, in your opinion, are the most common faults to expect in a used example?
Had the same model also in grey on a 1968 G plate. Ran it for a few years, but sold it as it didnt get used enough. Sold it before prices went silly, grrrrrrr. There's a video here on youtube by motordrome land rover after it was restored and repainted in pastel green. XYO 246G
Now that really is a classic I never drive one as a mechanic back in the day, I remember finding one in the scrapyard & thinking that it shouldn't be crushed but I was unable to save it.
Thank You "very" much for showing this beautiful Car, I like everything about it. I think that in the 1930s we reached a pinacol in building proper quality automobiles. That preselect gearbox is lovely, so smooth! Thanks again. 😳WoW.
