MD is a Enthusiastic amateur fly fisherman of 40 years, fishing in and around my home location of West Yorkshire to placers such as South Georgia, Belize, Kenya, Bosnia, Canada, Gibraltar, Norway, Mexico and all over the United Kingdom.
My videos are a bit basic at the moment, but its my own record of my days out, I don't do flash videos graphics and drone footage, just me out with my rods ( Not here to impress everyone with my video editing skills) don't expect to learn anything, so your thumbs down means nothing to me ha, ha, enjoy.
Hi Mick was it you that had the round disc that gave you a guide to what type of fly to use around the country at different times of the year.? If so have you thought about getting them made and selling them. You only need to change the design to make it yours 👍
Are you fishing in a stocked pond?? Here in the states fishing for trout in streams is a whole different story, trout can be very selective. I tied some of your leech patterns with rabbit strip and orange bead. I’ll be trying one out tomorrow on the Salmon River in Upstate NY for coho, , kings browns and steelhead. I’ll let you know how well it does.
@@dpmulvan Hi this place is a mixture of stocked rainbows to keep the place open all year, but we have quite a lot of wild browns that have developed over 40 years of the club been here. Regards Mick
Again when they jump pull them down and hold the rod sideways. Just can’t stress this enough especially with trout I had seen so many anglers loosing them with the rod high up and with the same setup I was almost always able to pull them in when I kept the rod and line pulling sideways and down not up. Just my only few cents of knowledge I can really not stress enough from what I can recommend doing, which I see a lot of people not even trying.
I only did this as an experiment, but wow it does work for them difficult days, Ive seen some flies that should be banned, which catch massive fish, but it gets overlooked to whom is using them.
Hi I fish them under a bung, different depths 1 at 3ft and the 2nd at 6ft or just fish a single one. Its chop and change. Thanks for watching Regard's MD
I used bonedry and my ones float, you can see them bowing in the water as I figure 8 them back, the hooks I use are size 10, but not thick, used some only today .
Do you ever cover the beads of your flies in Varnish or resin? Sick of using new flies for the 1st time and maybe 2 or 3 fish caught and the colours off the bead.
You show the uv resin etc but can you lease list them as stopping the video to write the down is a pain also what uv torch do you recommend, thanks not used uv before .
Great video.shame about your river.there can be lots of factors about declining fish stocks or catches.weather can play a big part but also otters mink cormorants herons and the good old poachers pollution can't help upstream either.the water companies are releasing raw sewage which tend to release more nitrates which inturn produces more algae so lowers oxygen levels. Good luck with the rest of the season.
It is strange, a lad last week had a 4lb brown on a worm, we would catch 6-8 in a few hours here, but now its 1 or 2, I need to move further down the river past the works, but it about parking near as well. Thanks for watching Regards Mick
Thanks for that, trying to get about on different waters, today I was going to be Arnfield, but its closed on a Monday ha ha, the summer months can be difficult, so why not try something strange like a coffee bean, well its works, waiting to try out the teabag fly next. Thanks for the comment and watching Regards Mick
I did in this video I had the buzzer about 24ich under the bung, but if i fish it as a single fly without the bung, the buzzer normally stays at about 1 - 2 ft with a slow fig 8 or letting it drift in the wind with the fly line keeping it strolling along at a slow pace.
The fly stands up well when casting, but when a trout hits it hard its gone, but i did mention in the video about this and that i make up about 15 at a time, only fished it on 2 days over the year, in fact its getting an outing tomorrow on a local river. Thanks for watching and the comment Regards MD
I tied these up on smaller dry fly hooks 12/14 even 16. 14 and 16 are best larger hooks the don’t seem to like. Smaller coffee beans using glo brite orange thread. Glue uv and 2 varnish layers. I would fast figure 8 only slow. Every cast they will come look at the bean floats nicely can even gink it up. I had 10 out of my local fisheries last week just using this bean. It has since been banned 😂😂
Love this and just tried tying a few. The only extra thing I’ve added is peacock herl, trimmed flat on the top, to give an impression of the beetle’s under body. Can’t wait to give it a try 👍
Excellent, I had a good brown last week and a few roach that knock about the water took the beetle as well. Thanks for watching and the comment Regards Mick
Hi i have one of these clipped to my tying desk, which is easy to turn on and off with a simple switch, The head is mounted on an adjustable arm which can be positioned anywhere before you need it. www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Light-Curing-Lamp-Wavelength/dp/B09MLRDHCJ Regards Mick
Remember you can add legs, target points, spots etc, This is just showing how a coffee bean can be a great floatant for the beetle. For the full story see this page. about-flyfishing.com/fly-patterns/japanese-beetle-fly-with-coffee-beans/
I’ve heard of using a coffee bean but never actually tie one as a fly. Thank you. Now I’m wondering if there is a breakfast cereal fly to go with my morning coffee fly. ;-)
Good question! its an idea for the body of the beetle, you can still add legs and stuff, but as a bean its got taste. Thanks for watching and the comment. Regards MD
Genius! After straining my eyes trying to watch a slowly sinking foam beetle at Pennine a few days ago…this is perfect! Not sure the trout at Pennine need caffeine though 😂😂
Read it online and thought i would give it a go, so last Saturday it went on to the water and even thu it was a hot day it worked, about-flyfishing.com/fly-patterns/japanese-beetle-fly-with-coffee-beans/
@@imchrisme5514 Yes add legs or a head, this page was my information to try out. about-flyfishing.com/fly-patterns/japanese-beetle-fly-with-coffee-beans/
