Khiara and Adam are from Melbourne, Australia. We bought the Millennial Falcon, a 1981 Tayana 42, in Port Charlotte, Florida in February of 2018 and have been repairing her in many weird and wonderful places ever since! It's been one hell of an adventure so far and we hope to continue for as long and as far as we can!

We saved for many years to realise our goal. Watching other sailing channels, in addition to brightening our work days, gave us the hope and drive to continue saving and eventually take the plunge! So please join us on our adventure. I hope we make you laugh and can prove to some of you that it can be done!

Watching my “Saturday morning RU-vid videos” routine and was just thinking I miss seeing y’all’s videos as part of the group I watch regularly. I really hope things are going well for y’all and life is looking up and better than it was 5 months ago when you had to start your break. Hope you are well.

So I have just recently found myself in a situation where it seems reasonable to binge watch your whole channel starting at episode 1 over the past handful of days. I must say that I’ve found the toilet testimonials of the last several episodes to be hilarious. I just started this episode and see that your plus 2 to the crew is about to head back home and it saddens me as I believe that might signal the end of the toilet testimonials.

Really good content, matie! This is what i love about RU-vid - there's so much dross but every now and then you find a gem of wisdom from someone who REALLY knows, and has lived, what they're talking about . I've sailed for ober 40 years but my experience isn't a fraction of John's. I'd much prefer to listen to his advice than learn through my own mistakes. Especially offshore.😮

The Pardeys have said that multuhulls can use paraanchors off the bows to settle the boat and "heave to". They have a whole section on it.

My father would have killed before he left this life if I had given up my dreams to care for him. He always insisted on joining me on my trips in his last days, than I doctor him. We all do it how we think is best, so I wish you luck, we are each unique aren't we? See you when we see you!

Buy whatever name yacht you want but make sure the sailing mast is made of 💯% carbon fiber (other much marine needed parts are made of carbon fiber as well) and the sails are 💯% code zero (the spares in the sail locker too!) solar solar solar solar solar, big wide HD touch screen B/G or Raymarine radar and maps, and last but not least starlink internet. These are five absolute musts on any sailing yacht in 2024 and beyond. Do your best to have all of these items on your yacht when blue water sailing!

I once anchored too close to a shallow sandbar and after a few days was blown over it in the night. Our boat has a full keel but shoal draft. An outgoing tide though, soon left us stuck on the bar. We were all awakened by this fact when the boat suddenly fell over on her beam-ends and our sorry asses were tossed out of our warm berths. There was nothing to do but abandon ship, which we did in our dingy. We ended-up sitting on the beach for the rest of the night while watching the tide continue to fall until the water was no more than a foot deep. Fortunately what goes down, would come up and so it did. The incoming tide eventually refloated the boat and we were all able to reboard. Damage to my pride... incalculable. Damage to the boat...zero We didn't even ship any water. I was truly thankful for the full keel that night and shudder to thing what would have been the outcome with a spade keel and rudder.

I went from competent crew to YM Offshore in about 6 months. I had already done a lot of sailing before hand but I did all the courses because at the end of the day you are trying to pass their exam, so it is best do all their syllabus. The benefit I had of doing it in a short time was that I did not have to refresh myself as I was doing it in such a short time frame. Everything was still fresh. I even did the coastal as it would give me a great idea about the exam conditions. Day skipper is more of an everyone will pass type of course but it is a great foundation for the next levels going forward. All this was done in 96. I did my ocean in 2002 which was much easier than the yacht master exam. I think the RYA syllabus is the best one out there.

Lost my father to cancer last month. Similar struggles but lasted a little more than 2 years. Lots of ups and downs but the end was rapid and brutal. Watch for a sequence of bad events. It's generally the herald. Enjoy your time with your father.

A Bluewater boat will have a continuous bulwark running the length of the boat and ending only at the bows. Lifenetting is never a waste of money. A blue water boat will have a least two head sails (as in a clipper configuration). A BWB will always have a rugged wind-steering devise. A BWB will have a deep, well bilge and real sea births (never an open sided double bed). A BWB will have a guimbled range and oven. A BWB will have a manual pump to access the fresh water tanks. A BWB will always have a real life raft and ditch bag ready to go.
