The nice thing about them, though, is that they're extremely modular and easy to work on. On top of that, they use NATO standard 40mm filter cartridges, which are extremely easy to find, and there are adapters out there that allow you to use all manner of other filter cartridges, including MSA and 3M, with these PAPRs. And finally, the batteries are 5 volts, which means you can EASILY convert these things to be powered by USB power packs. These things are really great.
i wounder will level c still keep me safe from Ebola or H1N1 or bed bugs because in a level see but i can be a level B and A and one reason Hospitals don't carry level B and A because it cost money and big money to keep that cab system up that refills the SCBA so its left for the fire fighters
+Anthony Bridgewater Yes, level C will protect you from Ebola or any hemorrhagic fever virus contaminated patients. Obviously, it will also protect you from H1N1 and bed bugs. Live Ebola virus (other than in the field) would be found in BSL 4 labs (bio safety level 4). I doubt you will ever be in one.
First, I must apologize for my fearful demeanor in this clip. This video is an earlier one in our library, and we do plan to upgrade it in the near future. We plan to make it more conversational...and hopefully a bit easier to watch. Sometimes being too scripted in videos seems like a good idea at first...and then you realize it just makes you nervous. Second, we would be pleased to have our video used in research, but it is probably best to contact us directly about requests so we can understand your study purpose and project. The best mechanism to do that is through the 'contact us' feature of the HEROES website at www.unmcheroes.org. We are happy to discuss any research ideas with you further. Sincerely, Beth Beam HEROES Project Coordinator
thank you for the wonderful videos, i was wondering if you could make other videos on how to where to perform the Doffing off PPE when handling an( Airborne patient ) if you had 2 zones and if you had only one, and by that i mean negative pressure rooms
Your question is a good one. The CDC recommends that the N95 respirator is removed after leaving the negative pressure room when the door is closed...regardless of whether it is a standard hospital room or a room with an anteroom. Respiratory protection is always removed last when doffing, so it should the be only PPE item that is removed from the hospital room, unless you have personal eye protection that you need to disinfect. The challenge is that now you have dirty equipment on your face to remove. The important thing is having access to an appropriate trash receptacle and hand hygiene area immediately in the anteroom, at the room door, or close to it. Otherwise, it becomes easy to get distracted and potentially contaminate yourself or nearby surfaces unintentionally. It is really important to remove the N95 respirator carefully...touching a small portion of the edge of the respirator, but enough to control the mask as you remove the upper and lower strap over your head, then gently put the mask in the garbage.
Here's the thing that I noticed, isn't she supposed to remove the mask FIRST then the gown last? Honestly, the gown should be removed last because that's what we were taught in nursing school. The steps shown are wrong.
Respiratory protection is taken off last to prevent the healthcare worker from inhaling any small particles that might be aerosolized as the gown is removed. We can wash hands and rinse eyes, but the alveoli of your lungs are not as easy to decontaminate. It is okay to use hand sanitizer before touching your face to remove the straps...I know that is sometimes a concern for people.
