Well I should have keep my first account from 2008, it seem that your most popular video with 1.7 millions views goes back to 17 years ago, but the 247k subscribers is something almost impossible to reach for any drummer out there. Even legendary drummer like Weckl doesn't have that number, he is at 120k subscribers. Which is very hard to understand in my perspective.
Thank you so much Mike! I am left handed playing open handed and I run into situations trying to lead with my right. I'm going to practice this lesson! Oh, and I live just down the freeway from you in Elk Grove. Cheers! ;)
I used to watch you when I first started drumming maybe almost 12-13 years ago when I was in highschool. My old mentor recommended your channel. I still use your rudiment warm ups. You still the same person then.
That hand motion is soooo clean. Even at 120 bpm, it was clean like it was sanitized. Gonna go and try this on my inferior, single-sided, one surface practice pad :P
Great lesson! After playing for decades I find that when you play L hand lead and/or open handed especially accenting the shoulder of the L hand stick on the bell or edge of hi hat on groves or through a song; if you can dedicate certain amount of time each day, it will blow you away how your weaker had comes around. Case and point if you never played left hand lead and you just start to accent the bell on your L side cymbal lol you'll see what I mean by how week your L hand is... Peace
@@mikeslessons I cant belive its taken so long for a pad like that to come out, I have an eveans and a zildjian reflex to get that. Pads are so over priced is a cnc piece of MDF with ruber on one side and neoprene rubber on the other, super easy to make in a factory, should be $50 max.
Hey Mike, I love your channel! I've heard different answers to this question but I figured I'd ask you. Do thin cymbals crack easier, or do heavier cymbals crack easier?
Hey Ben, that's a great question. The answer isn't in the cymbal as much as it's in the drummer. If a heavy drummer with great technique is playing then the thin cymbals will last longer as far as cracks go because the flex a bit more. That being said, they might tend to bend/warp. So they don't crack as easy, but they can get a tad disfiquerd. The thick cymbals rarely get bent, but they just give into the abuse and crack. If the drummer plays super hand and has poor technique, then my advice is to get a sh*t ton of used Sabian B8's because your gonna be going through them like tinfoil anyway, lol. The lesson here is swipe the cymbal and it will last MUCH longer! Hope that helps.
Unfortunately the algorhythm doesn't count comment under 4 words, but I appreciate the effort since boring pad videos like this never do well, LOL. That being said, all good in your world old friend?
@@mikeslessons I was of course kidding :) We appreciate any content you have time for, and I think I speak for most (if not everyone) when I say we're happy that a longer period between two YT videos just means you're being successful otherwise. The RU-vid algorithm on the other hand might be less forgiving, but that's a whole other story :)
Been playing guitar a few months and my dad gave me his old drumset and as much as I love guitar i think drumming is so much more fun. Going to continue to learn both and see where it takes me.
Around 16 years ago, I started watching your videos on YT and got me inspired inspired for the first time to start learning to play drums myself. My mom got me into an academy, in which I spent several years learning and even got the opportunity to be a teacher helping other kids starting their own drumming journey. During all those years you always were a major source of inspiration for me and I would be delighted by your talent, your style, your sound, everything. Later, by the age of 22, I finished college and moved abroad to continue with my academic studies and ended up working and building my life and career here in the United States. I’m 31 years old now, and I haven’t touched a drum kit ever since…but today I just went ahead and ordered an electronic drum kit for me to start practicing again and just enjoying myself. That’s how I eneded up watching this video and the second I heard you playing all those memories just came back again to my head. Mike, you probably have no idea of how many lifes you have impacted through your work, and how many talents out there have been shaped and inspired by your unique way of performing behind a drum kit. So I guess I just wanted to say THANK YOU.
Great lesson! I love your content. Why not a right hand flam so it can be essentially a Swiss triplet with a kick on the second stroke? I imagine it would be easier for some folks
