Thank you very much much , I hope you’re inspired and one day you give it a try and create something small like a lavatory or a bathtub for birds with this technique 😊
I don’t understand what’s your point , any shape and size can be done with this technique, every customer has his preferences, I’m also building sit in tubs .. 😂
Hi my name is tarsha I was looking at your video and he got me very excited about making tubs cuz I want to do a spa if you have a class or something with hands on I would like to take the class I'm interested I'm eager to learn and I want to change the world so I guess I'll be contacting you when I get ready I love you video keep up the good work
Hi Tarsha I’m so happy that you’re inspired, unfortunately I’m not teaching workshops anymore, but with this tutorial you should get enough information to create your own first maybe small bowl or laboratory, good luck and thank you for your feedback 😊
Where does one get the huge block of foam like that? I suppose I could save all my packing material and glue together and then cut away the shape I need? YA??
I made my first ones 20 years ago exactly as you mentioned and I also used dozens of plastic PET bottles for insulation tests , be creative and improvise with what you have 😅
Daniel, You have inspired / enlightened me. Thank you. I live in Costa Rica too…can you tell me where to look for a big piece of sterofoam? Thanks, Jan
Hi, none of all of those, it’s a very pleasant silky feeling, if well done .. there’s nothing like that , it’s the best, very sensual and natural 😊just like a bathtub should feel .. enjoy
I’m wondering does this have to be built in place as a permanent structure or would it be possible to seal the bottom as well so it could be installed and moved if needed ?
That is a great question, it would be a new little challenge for do such a project, I guess the only part that has to be done in a flexible way would be the fittings for drain and faucet, maybe choose another shape/ design specially the floor connection that would make it easier to attach things
@@danielgautschi2085 - yes, I’m debating on how to build our bathtub and ran across this video. Would love to meet one of my neighbors. I’m on Calle Buena Vista. I’ll send you a private message.
Hi, the tub looks still exactly the same and shows no sign of any cracks, broken edges or leaks, I have done others since this one and I keep using the same technique 😅
As a bathtub enthusiast I really like the project. My only concern is how comfortable it is with those steep walls on both ends and the therefor relatively sharp rims. Can you comfortably soak in there for 2 hours with a book and a glass of wine?
Hello, i’ve been wondering is there something that i could use to make a silky smooth wet look for the bathtub? I’m trying to make a big corner one with steps out of some BCA blocks with concrete mix moulded over since it insulates well. I’m having trouble choosing something tht would give it a wet look like marble.
Think about the wastage of water due to this..use a bucket and mug for bathing... water is so precious.. it will change into non renewable source soon if human made climate change continues like this
Could have saved hundreds of dollars on the foam if you built it from the ground up using adhesive instead of carving out so much of it. I probably run into about 30 - 40 different scenarios a day where I see somebody do something a certain way and think to myself, "Boy, I am an idiot for never thinking of doing it that way" lol
If my mom can teach herself to arc weld and I can teach my girls to sculpt and build, you don’t have to wait for a next time. Take the first step, failure comes with small consequences and big rewards and is open to everyone.
Girl! We got this. I have two houses Im renovating to sell. It’s amazing what I’ve learned to do on my own. Just need another girl to buddy up with. There are some women metal workers and work workers on RU-vid that will blow your mind. ❤
Hi Daniel. Thank you for sharing this. I've been asked to build a Japanese style soaking tub, and in researching have come upon your fantastic piece of functional art along with a tutorial for how you accomplished it. Beautiful work man. I have a question regarding the drain sysstem (I am not a plumber and the plumber I typically use is not interested in exploring beyond the standard, typical set-ups) - so is this a 2" pvc coming out of the floor with a pop-up on the inside? Any special fixtures involved in-between or simply glued together? Advice appreciated.
Very welcome I’m happy you got inspired, yes it’s a standard 2” drain with a standard pvc reduction piece to 1 1/4” for that particular pop up copper drain piece, I didn’t glued that part into the reduction because the fit inside was perfect and pretty long with the extension tube , if I ever would have to replace it, it would be a simple minor fix
where do you buy the hard Styrofoam from ??? any links to products would be so appreciated also what does "humidify surface" mean exactly like making it wet with a cloth first or having the air in the room be humid ? just for clarity
I’m able to buy the block of styrofoam from a manufacturer company here in Costa Rica and for oversize I glue the elements together with high end flex super bonder for ceramic tiles. Humidify means keeping the Portland based cement layer and stuccos always wet because of the cure for the oxidizing chemical reaction required, keep cement humid for as long as possible makes it harder and harder
