Hi Stefan. Thanks for the wonderful video ; I keep watching it again and again. Are you familiar with the process of buying a new glider directly from the factory ? Is there any advice you could give to me please ( i.e. special paperwork, expected building time, possible complications etc ) I am aiming to buy the AS34 Me in the next couple of years. @murryrozansky8753 No flaps. The wings are from the ASW 28, a standard class (15 meters) glider that came with wings extension to 18 meters. The purpose of the AS34 ME is a simpler glider that is less expensive. The 15 meters option is also available. The 18 meters version has a glide ratio of 48 which is excellent for a non-flapped sailplane. It is a great machine for clubs. If you have the opportunity to fly one, I am sure that you will like it.

Questions: 1. Why did you start with the left hand on the airbrake lever and right hand on the throttle? Was this to increase acceleration by using the wheelbrake? Don't you risk a ground loop when you do it this way? I suppose that the normal way would be to have the left hand on the throttle and right on the stick. 2. Why did you decrease the power shortly after taking off? Is this mandatory?
As a glider pilot I can tell you answer to 1 and guess number 2: It is standard take off in some models to start with full brake out, which you then smoothly let go as speed builds, gliders normally don't have flaps. Also another reason is the wheelbrake on this model ( I think) is not seperate but activated by fully extending airbrake so I guess it was for reving up the engine to full speed. And my guess for number 2 is simply becuase it is a battery engine, they overheat and have little energy in them so maybe just to conserve power and prevent overheating? A glider pilot always is very aware of speed and height, so as long as he kept optimum speed for climb rate there is no need for more power.
Naja, ich nehme mal an, bei uns dauert halt der Zulassungskram recht lang & die Ansprüche an die Struktur extrem hoch. Kann sein, dass in anderen Ländern die Hürden niedriger sind.
Zwischen 80% und 81%. Alexander-Schleicher hat ein Video auf ihrem RU-vid Kanal, bei dem sie den kompletten Steigflug mit einer Akkuladung zeigen. Knapp über 2400m schaffen sie damit, gemessen ab dem Boden (Eigenstart)

I would have really loved this but I'd suggest speaking the language of your largest demographic... probably English. Bilingual channels are quite tricky as most of your viewers can only enjoy 50% of your videos... Not a criticism, just friendly advice 🙂
Erst mal super Video mit einer lockeren Unterhaltung. Michael und ich fliegen die AS33 Es seit Juni letzen Jahres. Ich als Normalflieger und Michael nur bei Wettbewerben. Der erste Wettbewerb war in Prievizda letzten Jahres. Sein erstes Statement: Wenn ich nicht Erster werde liegt es nicht an der Maschine. Dann 2022 die Quali in Lachen Speyerdorf und Anfang September den Grand Prix in Vinon. Wir sind Beide absolut begeistert von der Leistung als auch dem sehr gutem Handling. Wir hatten vorher 10 Jahre die ASG 29 und waren auch mit dieser hoch zufrieden. Wir stimmen Stefan voll und ganz zu, dass die AS33 zu den besten 18 Meter Flugzeugen zählt und das Ergebnis an Wettbewerben immer ein Produkt aus Maschine, Pilot und Mannschaft ist. Unsere Maschine ist WN 18 und die Querruderkräfte finden wir absolut ok. Beim Grand Prix zeigte sich, dass die AS33 bei einer Flächenbelastung von 48kg/m2 bei den in Vinon herrschenden Wetterverhältnissen am besten steigt. Überhaupt ist erstaunlich wie gut das dünne Profil arbeitet. Auch bei der höchsten Flächenbelastung von 60kg/m2 fliegt sich die Maschine sehr gut und steigt auch gut. Sehr gut finden wir eine Vielzahl von kleineren Verbesserungen. Die umlegbare Kopfstütze, der integrierte Tank mit elektrischer Spritpumpe, die Motorsteuerung, die Anordnung der Seitenruderpedale und viel weitere Kleinigkeiten. Das Cockpit bietet auch Platz für kräftigere Personen. Auch sehr gut, dass die Fläche dank der neuen Entlüftung mit vollen Wassertanks abgelegt werden kann. Da kann am Grid noch vor dem Start die Flächenstütze schon verräumt werden. Sehr gut für die Helfer.
Hey Stefan, Love your videos but the use of helmet cam makes one a bit dizzy keeping up. Either keep your kopff schtill and turn head smoothly or go back to fixed mount. Veilen danke von Australia
Hi Stefan! Well done, third day of the SGP and catching up on the overall results. I have a couple questions for you that hopefully can reply to. In the video you mention the “experimental Variometer” that you have in the Ls3. Is there any chance you could give a bit more info about it? Or is it a classified project? And second (I hope you see this b4 leaving bosnia) is there any chance you could interview and film the DIY self launch system that Gintas has installed to his ASG29? Thanks a lot for sharing all this experiences!
