my one suggestion for painting the mechs: I paint all my mini's in generic camo patterns. I don't use specific faction colors or markings. this keeps my entire collection usable for every match. since every unit is available to every faction and a units availability is only based upon the era you are playing within, I prefer the open versatility. your painting is well done, quick and simple. more newer players need to see your method.
Thanks for the kind words! Yeah I agree, a generic camo scheme allows you to get so much more mileage out of your collection. That's my plan when I get round to doing some Star League stuff.
I got the fellowship as a kid and I'm so glad I didn't paint them... I have no idea where they are though, wish they'd turn up in the post like your Uruk Hai did 😅 Great job on these 👍
battletech began in 1984 as Battledroids. 40 years, 5 releases, only a couple minor rules clarifications. nothing nerfed, restricted, banned or removed. no faction specific rules or models. meaning, everything is always usable. no quarterly updates that changes how the game plays. battletech is a timeline based game, split into era's. from today thru the 32nd century. yes, they have a 1945 WWII sourcebook. very simply, everything made prior to the era you select to play, is available to everyone. we use future era tech as prototypes and may not always work correctly. enjoy the new universe!
It's funny you mention the 1945 book. I introduced some friends at my local gaming club to Alpha Strike, and we were interested in using the rules for combined arms WW2. I'll check it out properly.
It's a slightly softer plastic than you would be used to with GW models, but its pretty similar. The little guys are ace, I think looking at infantry is going to be next on the to do list!
Good work chief. I think thisnsort of thing is worth the effort. You csn get something that is more or lessnexactly what you want. A wood looks much better than plastic.
You know when I was putting it on, I thought it looked weird, and I thought "I'm going to have a John moment here". I wonder if I didn't clean my brush properly after using contrast and the medium did something funny? It was also chucking it down as you can see out the window, so the humidity probably didn't help!
If you haven't already, have a look at the Alpha Strike box. A little more expensive (£75 IIRC in most places) but you get 8 Inner Sphere Mechs, 5 Clan Mechs and lots of card scenery in the box. Unlike CBT it's meant to be played without hexes so it's closer to other skirmish wargames and can scale out quite impressively. EDIT, and no sooner do I type the comment, then you mention AS. Oh well, I'll leave the comment up anyway.

All 4 boxes, A game of armored Combat/Beginner Box/Clan Invasion/Alphastrike, are great. In my eyes the AS box is the best. You open it and are able to play with your mate instantly a Clan against Inner Sphere battle. And that’s only 75 EUR… show me a Warhammer Box that allows you that kind of thing 😅
@noirtobyroper4038 absolutely. Gone are the days of dropping 50 quid and having enough space marines to have a decent battle. The Alpha Strike and Clan Invasion box are my next projects. I'm thinking clan Ghost Bear...
Theres a lad on my astronomy forum who just churns through gear. See him drop £1000's and in 6 months he's selling it. There is truth in the old soap opera "you're not in love with me, youre in love with the idea of me" its really easy to get wrapped up in the idea of owning a thing rather than the actual owning. I go for "The rule of 6, the rule of 3". If its expensive sit on it for 6 weeks and circle back to it. If you still want it/are interested in it then youll probably maintain it. For smaller purchases, i use paypal pay in 3. Only ever have one thing being paid of on it at a time and keep the cost around £15-20, so about par for eating out a month.
I played some on TTS over lockdown actually. I love how flexible the units are for 9th age. It COULD be a unit from GW, but the descriptions are generic enough you can model a lot of the big monsters how ever you want.

Great video, mate. For me, I got into painting originally to fill the gap left behind by all my other hobbies cancelled because of lockdown. Through it, I've met so many great friends and dragged myself out of the house more often than ever before. And when one of the biggest problem with adult men is the lack of friends, I can only see this hobby as a positive for my mental health.
I definitely wish I had used lockdown to finish more projects! I agree, once you start working full time and creep towards middle age, it can often be a chore to socialise. Too easy to just come home and crash out on the sofa!
