My name is Tijn Berends. I lead the exciting double life of a climate scientist slash musician. I play what's nowadays called "modern traditional folk music": instrumental tunes that are rooted in the traditional Irish dance music, but with some exciting new spices added to the sound. My instruments of choice are the harmonica and the Irish bouzouki (I'm one of the few people in the world who can play both of them at the same time - an ability I'm modestly proud of), but I've been known to dabble with the guitar, concertina, and several other instruments that have accumulated in my house.
El unico instrumento que conozco es el violin ..podrian decir el nombre de los demas instrumentos y los musicos..excelente interpretacion..el corona dejo estos momentos magicos gracias
Holy Smokey fingers man! Well done. Anyone not stirred by this is dead from the neck down I think. Your virtuosity reminds me a great deal of Robin bullock. Another fine player
Hi! How do you hear the rhythm guitar without the microphones that are picking up the bouzoki picking up the guitar? Thank you very much for the beautiful music
Thanks! For this video, I recorded the bouzouki first and the guitar later, so easy enough. When I do the rhythm guitar first, I usually wear ear buds. Or sometimes I cheat and record the bouzouki audio separately and then play "air bouzouki" in the video.
Amazing! I am really excited, I bought some Irish Bouzouki strings and I'm hoping to see if I can make my 12 string guitar into an Irish Bouzouki. Where do you find the music for these gorgeous pieces?
I can't tell you how many times I've returned to sit and listen to this tune of yours - the best rendition of bucks I've ever heard! Thank you for being an inspiration, and thanks for your amazing playing!!!
I've just looked at about 12 different people playing reels and they are so fast. Its like look at me, I can play without even looking at the bouzouki. Does not give anyone any idea on how to even start. You really give irish bouzouki player s a bad name.
Start at about 60-70% of full speed and then gradualy increase BOTH the speed and *accuracy* until you no longer have to THINK about your left hand .... the left hand will/should become instinctive with muscle memory w/r to chord formatioin.... with LOTS of 'determined' practice (but STOP looking at the fret board hand ... OK to occasionally 'peek' at the 'landing spot' when there is a LARGE hand movement'. Same will happen to your "EAR to *both* hands coordination". From that point on - 'real' music. FWIW - stop HOLDING DOWN THE CHORD FORMATIONS, most celtic string musicians will 'pluck' then immediately pull off etc. to an open harmonic string(s), etc. For faster speed, use timing-controlled and perfectly timed/tremoloed arpeggios whenever possible, even when playing 3 note arpeggios for a single beat 'ornament'. 'Touch' the string to the fret wire ... and then release, etc. .... all with perfect timing of your 'plucking' hand. The more you practice, the more instinctive and 'automatic' it will become. :-) I use an app called "Amazing Slowdowner" (ronimusic.com) when learning any new tune written in .M4a or .MP3 format. ... regulates/changes) the speed of the tune without changing pitch, etc. etc. etc. INVALUABLE if you're a serious learner. For copying RU-vid music into .MP3 use -> mp3-convert.org/mp3-youtube/
I adore skillful bouzouki playing like yours, wonderful, warm compositions that really capture your personality. Please compose more and put them online, tunes this finely crafted will eventually enter the canon as more and more players discover them. Thanks for what you do!
