Superb video, OnTrail 82. Eager to see your next upload from you. I smashed the thumbs up button on your content. Keep up the wonderful work! Your insights on finding the "sweet spot" in the hammock were really helpful. How did the synthetic insulation perform in the cooler temperatures after the rain?
@@KeyserTheRedBeard thanks! The hammock held up great after the rain but it was still a low of only 66 so didn’t get too low. The weekend before I had it down to 53 degrees and it was still just fine! The Superior Gear Hammocks are pretty spot on with all their temp ratings. Was sick last week but I’ll be back out this weekend and should have another vid up on Tuesday or Wednesday! Thanks for watching!
Hey there, just wanted to thank you for your content. I am a fellow car camper and off road enthusiast based in the twin cities. Your videos are a great inspiration and guide for back country exploration in MN Cheers!
Yea buddy, so glad that you found the “sweet spot”! It is a real thing. I think I may know where you were camping at. I will send you a text to see if you were at the spot I am thinking of. Thanks for the shout out on the SG hammock!
@@petescharber8567 haha I wonder if u know? U seem to have gone everywhere I go but 20 years ago! 😂 and the hammock is great! Right now is the perfect weather for it!
@@blackfox2885 haha I had two bites and I felt like I ate a pound of it!? Shit was good but HEAVY! Becky couldn’t even finish it off!? 😂 no worries yur drama made for a good memory in the video! lol
Cant say Ive ever owned a Long handled spoon, at the same time i cant say Ive ever thought about cutting my backpacking meal pouch. This mans Killing the Long Handled spoon industry one meal/video at a time 🤣 Thanks for the vid Swag!
@@petescharber8567 haha it was nice! I really wanted it for the second night but I even realized getting to that site I would’ve been set up all in the woods away from camp so it was nice being in camp with the person yur camping with lol
It’s not big. I’m pretty sure we hiked the whole park in half a day stopping multiple times. Plus I was filming. To be honest I don’t remember the name of any of the trails there…sorry.
@@craigrichardson5223 thanks! I really enjoy everything about it! The filming and putting it all together! Always nice to have the memories too! Glad you enjoy them!
Its funny that you did a section Tom and I are doing in 2 weeks. But we are starting at Silver Bay and going to Castle Danger. One question, how was the Fault Line Creek Campsite and water sources there?
@@outdooradventureswithshane3319 just fine. There’s a pond next to it that doesn’t dry up! Be ready! That trail is an ass kicker between that Silver Bay trailhead and the Beaver River! lol
I'm so jealous... You give the Jeep a workout . Have you thought about talking to the dealership where you bought it and see if they would sponsor you ? Maybe just give them a quick acknowledgment and make a few bucks for video equipment. ( or a new tent pole lol)
@@CavemanCBB haha people tell me that a lot but I watch RU-vid videos from the off-road community in British Columbia so their videos make me feel like an off-road peasant compared to them lol
Tent camping in the chip is definitely a spooky place. Coming from a guy who spent 28 days straight in the Canadian wilderness the Chippewa National Forest has something living in it that is spooky
Big island is full of fire ants. Would be fun in the winter but the summer time it’s a disaster. Smaller island is absolutely full of poison ivy. That lake froze out two winters ago now. Smaller sun fish in it again.
@@MattMohsOutdoors I feel like this comment is for my other video where I paddled out to the two islands from my peninsula campsite. Either way I’ve had plans for that lake in the winter lol Thanks for watching!
@@Ontrail82 I dug deeper and found your other video! Good stuff! I love it up there. My grandpa hunted up there years ago. We have a decent group that still goes up there. Not many deer anymore but it’s the memories that are going.
Curious as to why you used a blanket between the fly and screen. Does it prevent dew from forming, it's it for insulation? I like how you cut your kindle!
Great video again as usual! I'm hoping to get up and explore some more of this area this autumn once it gets a little cooler, I did a lot this spring but just couldn't handle the mosquitos and didn't want to buy equipment for fogging 😵💫
@@Tovin thanks! The mosquitos are actually calming down a lot now. I think the low night temps are doing it. They weren’t bad at all while I was out there but I ran the Thermacell to keep them completely cleared out around me and I was fine. I think fall is starting slightly early this year as we had an early spring!
Hey! I’m heading there next month. How far up the 4x4 road did you go to find dispersed camping? Just curious if your spot was up toward the trailhead. Any dispersed spots along the way? Thanks!
The whole road had dispersed camping spots from the beginning all the way to the trailhead. Probably a hundred or so spots. We got ours Thursday so we got a decent spot…the people coming in Friday and Saturday had to take what they could find. Anyone coming in after 7pm wasn’t finding a spot lol busy area but lots of camping spots that are semi secluded.
Thank you! I just realized you said you were camped 5 minutes from the trailhead, so that answers that question. I appreciate the info on all the dispersed camping along the way, great video and cheers !
@@nedVenturesOut yeah I decided last winter I wanted to get into a lot more of overlanding to remote secluded sites but still love to hike! Not sure if u missed my last video but it was a hike on the Superior Hiking Trail! One of my favorite sections of trail but definitely not an easy section lol …stay tuned! I’ve got some fall hikes coming up I’ve had planned! Thanks for watching!
Looks great! You've mentioned before that you find sites like these by looking over google maps. Was curious if you had any tips/tricks when doing that. I've recently started trying to find sites in the state/natl forests in MN and have had a small amount of luck but seem to have trouble finding these minimum maintenance roads that often lead to sites on the map. even finding the more main forest roads seems to be a challenge at times. Any advice much appreciated and keep up the great vids. go wolves!
@@zackkuz6383 to be honest it’s a lot of trial and error. I have a video from about a month ago of me spending an entire Sunday looking for a site! Drove to probably 7 or 8 potential spots but not a single one panned out. Either overgrown, not there anymore, or just too difficult to drive to get there with the flooding back then! A lot of times I’ll see a video of someone else at a spot and I’ll just look at the surroundings, maybe the shape of the lake, and start looking in that area on google maps to match up the lake or surroundings! Most often I literally just drive to an area with lots of off shoots that look like logging roads and if I see from google maps that it leads to a lake I head that way! Sometimes the road ends before the lake and I turn around and sometimes I get lucky like this video! This site was one I had VERY low expectations for but when I got there I was pleasantly surprised lol …when I’m up north exploring I just have the mindset of enjoying just driving tight forest roads and the scenery! If I don’t find a spot I’m perfectly ok with driving home after a full day of exploring…or choose a campground close for a backup spot in case I have my mind set on camping! Hope this helps! It’s kinda frustrating at first but once you start to get the feel for roads and where spots may possibly be it becomes fun! Almost like treasure hunting! lol
@@brianweiss3609 thanks! haha you must not have seen my other Chippewa video from a couple months ago when I announced the change! 82 just represents the year I was born!
Mt Huron was my first 14'r as well. I was on a 1989 COBS (Colorado Outward Bound) semester course based in Leadville. I recorded much of it with stereo audiotape and 35mm slides. I can attest to the "kicking my ass" aspects of the hike / climb to the top and back down. I would like to get back there to see how 35 years of wisdom and life experiences may add to it all. For now, I sit here watching others while glancing out my window to baby ducklings feeding and scurrying by along the Wisconsin River.
Caribou Falls almost doesn't belong in Minnesota. It has more of a Montana look to her. PS: any remnants of damage from this year's weather, particularly the flooding and windstorm? Thank you @OnTrail 82.
"Toto, I don't think we're in Minnesota anymore." Wonderful! PS: how easy is getting a permit out that way? Thank you Scott! @OnTrail 82 Also PS: rubber duck squeaked at 11:25
@@AJKPenguin lmao 😂 …no permits for that mountain! The rubber duck squeak was the mountain grouse everywhere…or at least that’s what I was calling them 🤣
